Petroski was my professor while I was at Duke, I took a summer course, The Evolution of Technology in London (University College London) with him and a History prof. His wife and two kids were with us, nice family. Interesting thing about old Henry, he never left academia, he never practiced engineering. I had one class during the school year with him, but it was not NEARLY as good as the one where we studied evolution of construction and design for cathedrals, bridges, and train stations, then went to visit examples of each stage of the advancement.
