Ambiguity and I

Jul 16, 2006 21:00

I spent the latter half of the week at Purdue, speaking with quite a few communications people, and now I don't know what to do with myself :-)  I am quite pleased with what I've heard, and I have a lot of hope for the coming year.  If I had known what I know now several years ago, I might have focused on some journalism experience...

Strange, I

I found that out my last year, too. The journalism classes at Westminster are REALLY easy and are the LEAST stressful classes of any I took while at WC. You may also ask The Globe Leader to let you do an internship there. I did that my last semester, too, and Dave Hughes (the publisher) is super nice. You can use my name as a reference if you want.

(or are you transferring???)

Are you still not done with your Bachelors? Looking at transferring or a Masters?

One year left on the Bachelor's... I don't know whether or not to go for a Master's, but they told me that I couldn't get a job as a professional writer with my meager portfolio. Thus, I need to rethink my options again.

Have you looked at actual job ads for things you'd want to be doing? I learned a lot about what I didn't know and what I needed to know before graduation by doing that. I don't know what exactly you're looking for, but you might want to check out www.journalismjobs.com

In the meantime, the Holcad always needs writers, and so does the Globe...you can definitely build onto a portfolio in a year! Don't be discouraged about your options while you still have time to fix it.
