John (stepdad)- who usually drives me to and from work- was in the hospital, recovering from surgery on his carotid artery. That left my mom with the task of getting me there

I'm really sorry. My mom also has hypothyroid, although she also has cancer with an unknown prognosis. She has actually almost died three or four times recently.
