NLP Success Stories

I'm starting to get to the point where I'll have my own success stories to tell people about how NLP can work instead of relying on others. So here's a few I've had recently.

About 2 weeks ago I had to fly out to Georgia for work. There's a woman there whom I've worked with a few times from the previous trips out that way so I've casually mentioned NLP to her before. Once we were done with my purpose for going out there, there was still time left before I had to leave to go to the airport, so we chatted some more. The topic of NLP came up again and she mentioned that her partner was looking into alternate forms of healing for something she had going on. I offered NLP and wanted to give her an example of it so she has an idea what it is. (Since anyone who knows NLP knows that it can be difficult to explain all of what NLP is.)

She told me that she had a very specific fear of heights that she would like to find out how and when it started. She isn't afraid of heights in general, only something like roller coasters or being up in a cherry picker when it starts to sway. She can still do her job, but it's uncomfortable. So we started with a guided search using a timeline to find where it started, and we came to a certain Halloween when she was around 9 years old where someone thought it would be funny to jump off the roof towards her to scare her. Obviously it worked :). Once we found that, we did the fast phobia/trauma process around that event and then came back to the present. She said that it felt much better after doing that.

On the flight back from Georgia, I sat next to this guy who was going on vacation. He introduced himself to me when he sat down and we started talking. He mentioned that he had only flown once a long time ago and he was kinda terrified of it. (Apparently on the last flight, they had a lot of turbulence). He also mentioned that he was a psychology student. (Insert NLP here). :)

I asked if he would be willing to give something a shot for his phobia. So we did the phobia process real quick and before the plane had begun to push back we had finished. He was so surprised throughout the whole flight that he wasn't scared anymore. When we finished the process he was starting to figure out what exactly I did using a lot of psychology terms and it sounded way more complicated than what I did. I kept saying "What I did is way more simpler than what you think."

And for the third story...I was talking with one of my clients after we finished the session when I mentioned that one of my pet peeves is when someone asks (when they should know better) "Can you use that NLP process for this situation?". The answer to that question is always "Yes." (Well, ok...almost always. I'm sure there is 'some' situation I can't think of where a process wouldn't work with a given Present State.) Anyways, we experimented with it by using the Counter-example process around forgiveness where that process isn't what I would do first, and it still worked.

So there you go. NLP really does work. :)
