We use FatWire Content Server, and it's interesting. I just know basics about tags (thanks to LJ). I was having this weird problem with one link with a tab. It didn't want a stinkin' tab on it.
I was cleaning up the html on the link directly, and there was bizarro excessive junk there. But when I save the page, FatWire 'cleans the html' (popup to tell this too!). Next time I edit, it's full of the same junk.
Luckily there is a function that lets you see the whole page completely in HTML. There was weird stuff in front of the link where the tab was - I erased it, and thankfully it fixed the problem.
Now I understand why you like to code HTML directly - there is so much junk that HTML editors add.

And I hear you on the self doubt stuff. I feel the same way lately.
