Title: Just another Sunday evening….

Martin looked up at Danny in shock from their bed. Danny was staring back, just as confused. Since the two men had moved into a shared loft over two years ago, Martin had always asked Danny for a few hours to himself every Sunday night. Danny had readily agreed to this stipulation - it was a reasonable request. Usually, he would spend those few hours out of the loft, allowing Martin the freedom to do whatever. This week though, Danny had decided he knew what Martin was doing and he wanted it on it.
Every other week when he’d come home, he’d see Martin coming out of their bedroom looking relaxed. While the two men had a reasonably active sex life, Danny figured that Martin still liked some “alone-time” away from his partner. Well, Danny wanted in on that action. So this week, instead of going out to the local bar to chat with the regulars or catch a game, Danny had told Martin he would stay home. Martin had looked a little suspicious but said it was ok. Danny had settled onto their couch with a game on TV and a bowl of popcorn and left Martin to do his thing. After an hour, Danny had decided that it was time to spring his grand plan. He’d quietly snuck down the hallway to their bedroom and cracked the door open. He hadn’t heard anything unusual, so he’d poked his head in a little further. The sight that had met his eyes had made both men freeze
Martin was sitting in the middle of their king size bed, surrounded by magazine clippings, blinders, plastic binder pages, and about a half a dozen gossip magazines. Danny saw that each plastic sheet was labeled with an actor or actress’s name and that the binders were divided into genres. Martin had a magazine page in his hand, scissors poised to cut a new clipping.
“Uhh…whatcha doin’?” Danny asked. Martin seemed to snap out of his shock and quickly glanced down at his work.
“I should ask you the same thing. Can’t a man have two hours to himself without getting interrogated?” Martin replied, looking like he was getting ready to either attack Danny or bury his head under the bed.
“I gotta admit this isn’t what I thought you were doing. What exactly are you doing anyway?”
Martin sighed. There was no getting out of this situation - might as well come clean. “When I was younger, I would spend an insane amount of time alone in my room. I liked to look at pictures of famous people, so I usually had a large stack of gossip rags in my room. Finally, I was told that I had to either throw them out or find another place to keep them. I decided that I would clip out the pictures I wanted to keep. It relaxes me and lets me keep my hands busy while letting my mind wander. I kept it up over the years because it is a stress reliever - and in case you haven’t noticed, our job’s a little stressful!”
Danny could only shake his head in agreement. “So, you’ve been keeping these binders since you were a kid? And no one ever found out?”
“I haven’t always put clipping in them - just when I get stressed out. And while I love our job, it is high stress. I started doing this again after two weeks in Missing Persons. When we moved in together, I figured I could do it a couple hours a week to stay calm.”
Danny was impressed. While it seemed like a silly hobby, it had kept Martin fairly stress free. “Well, if it helps…” He smiled at his partner before crossing the room to look at the clippings. “Wait, is that Vin Diesel? He looks good!”
As Danny ogled his collection, Martin felt himself calming down. Maybe next week he wouldn’t be cutting out pictures alone…
