England ENGLAND: London

Apr 02, 2011 23:58

Tomorrow I head out on the road, but I've had a pleasant time in London. Two real days and one day spent mostly in bed. I had so much to do the night before my flight that I actually did not go to bed. I slept off and on from SF to Chicago, but then couldn't sleep from Chicago to London, by which point anyway my body was seriously annoyed with me. ( Read more... )

"Thanks for saying hi to my old friends for me."

No problem! I would have anyway. BTW, can you, in your academic capacity, tell me WHY Holbein painted an off-center skull on the floor? Just because he could?

I just watched Simon Schama's A History of Britain, so I'm feeling steeped in history. Wouldn't have remembered Runnymeade, though. ;-)

LOL, you mean Rob. ;-) No... It was only a slight fancy, you know! And I think having me, Roz, and Gretchen staying with him, especially when we were 7-weeks-sick of each other, was a little much for him anyway!

So glad you're having a good time! Aaaand, because it's too late now, I think I found my magic pub: I BELIEVE it's the Prince Edward, at the corner of Hereford Rd. and Dawson Pl. at Princes Square, sort of behind Bayswater station?

The British Library!!!

(I saw the new Jane Eyre, and liked it pretty well, though I still think the 2006 Ruth Wilson/Toby Stephens is the one to beat.)

Have fun at Chawton!

Hey! I was *staying* in Princes Square! So I must have been quite near to it. I'll be back there for a night before I leave, but don't know if I'll make it there.

Your last paragraph cracks me up.
Jane Eyre, eep!! And Jane Austen!
I am against any Jane Eyre movies because I just don't think someone should cheat like that- they don't understand how long Jane had to suffer near the end- they just won't get it like the book told it. But maybe the new one will be better.
