England ENGLAND: Wells to Conwy

We continue with no photo uploading. Sorry about that. Here's some words to read instead. Places been:

1) Wells Cathedral and Bishop's Palace: I went crazy for photos in Wells Cathedral-it's gorgeous, and oh! the geometry! Mesmerizing! I particularly loved the Chapter House, which looked rather like the inside of a tree - amazing fan vaulting. For ( Read more... )

I love this. Talking about England with you is like talking about art museums with captainoz.

is famous for having, apparently, more bookstores per capita than anywhere else in the world!

Oh, riiiiight! THAT's why it sounds so familiar. Obvsly a destination for me, some day.

Please do say hi to my Dickensian peeps, will you?, and also please tell me you are communing with some kind of Doctor Whodom while you're in Wales.

Thanks. :-) Anytime!

Alas, they're on the southeast coast, so never got there. Just saw the sign on the motorway! It'll have to be a quest or something for you - a reason to come to England!

please tell me you are communing with some kind of Doctor Whodom while you're in Wales.

Um... Is this a new Dr. thing? ... Don't remember what part Wales played in old Dr. Who... Though actually Portmeirion *did* appear in one Tom Baker episode, called "Mandragora," that was supposed to take place in the Italian Renaissance. So in that sense I will be. But I doubt that's what you meant...

I haven't yet *had* Welsh rabbit, actually. Here anyway. I'm very fond of it, though not for breakfast.

You know..in most of Itlay, like Milan and such, they DON'T cut pizza. They serve every person a whole pizza, uncut. Of course, there they use sparser toppings. Everyone just rips, folds, and eats. In a way, the spot you ate was terribly authentic in at least that respect.

Interesting. I don't think I actually had pizza in Italy ever. I've seen an Indian friend eat it that way, remarkably neatly, but I know for myself I'd be covered in hot grease and the glares of the Welsh. I watched other people eat their pizza, and they cut it.

Continuing the dining oddities, the Indian place I ate at tonight (opposite the Italian place), *didn't serve chai.* And everywhere in the UK that I've been, even if they do serve it, they seem surprised I know the word. Can you, with your English heritage, resolve this enigma?

BTW, sorry I never messaged you back the other night. I was technically on FB, but was emailing my mom, and never saw your messages until you'd logged off. England and Wales have been great. :-)
