I guess this is for the college freshman who still might actually read this lj. And for anyone else who hasn't gone to college yet. In response to several posts I've seen lately

What is we're already at Tennessee, huh? What then?
Just kidding, but I do suggest a little change to your advice... I've been here almost a month, and have made several new(i.e. non GPS) buddies through church and class, so um, maybe the best thing to say is that yeah, it's going to be hard- harder than class or communal bathrooms or whatever, but you just have to make the extra effort until you find where you fit in.
Haha then you're set! I hope UT is treating you well. I hope my point came across as it was intended; many people end up transferring to UT because they feel like they already have prepackaged friends and groups there and they can just meld right back into those and things will be fine. Hopefully they instead will do what you did and made new friends through new channels.
Hope your semester is going very well so far, look forward to seeing you Thanksgiving?Christmas!
I definitely do. Though I obviously haven't known my friends at school as long as I have my friends at home, being around people 24/7 as opposed to simply during the school day and possibly a few hours on weekends certainly speeds up the friendship process in my humble opnion.

While i utterly agree with amy in her words that college can really be a scary time the first year, one must also know that he/she must really look at what you want.
indeed...transferring back to TN might be the very thing you need to be who you need to be. but take the time you are away to grow and appreciate what you do have...

A good point. Like I said in a post I received earlier with a similar comment, I hope (but don't feel) it was made clear that transferring to TN is not a copout. It's not wrong to do, it's done sometimes however for the wrong reasons. I'm glad however you pointed out a clarifcation that sometimes it is done for the right reasons and that just because you transfer after the first year does not mean that there was something that went wrong on your part.
