Minus the exclusive albums, don't ever buy CDs from iTunes. "But it's so convenient," right? Well, why don't you think about how much the artist makes? It is a FACT that artists make less money when you buy their CD off of iTunes. Granted: it doesn't matter so much for the bigger artists, but what about those kick-ass, lesser-knowns that are making ( Read more... )

On pirating:
There was an interview on aperfectcircle.com featuring Maynard and Billy, and they explained the damage that's done from pirating albums and songs alike. I had no idea how much money artists spend just making an album, promoting and touring it.

Are you going to delete your LimeWire now, Captain Jack Sparrow?

And another thing, if these artists are complaining as to how little they make, why sell their album on iTunes in the first place? If there looking for exposure, there are plenty of articles on how MySpace has revolutionized musical promotion.

I do realize that me writing this kind of labels me as a hypocrite. Pirating will always been an issue no matter what, really. But, at the same time, I still do buy CDs when I have the money and when a CD really impresses me. In regards to artists sticking their music up on the iTunes store: sometimes they have no choice and are forced to by the record execs, and it's not easy to back out of contracts. So, my post isn't so much about exposure and piracy, but rather the countless advantages to buying the physical CD. Everybody important wins, and Apple and record companies lose! :D

But...Apple has pretty lappy's! But, yes, the advantages to buying a CD are a bit more rewarding for everyone all around, not to mention nostalgic as all hell. Remember when CD players were all the rage? Back when we had skin.

By the way, I wasn't implying that you were a hypocrite.

it's easier to put songs online like iTunes and shit because they don't need to front the money for the cds...so they save a pretty penny on their own behalf, they're just punk ass bitches who need to shut the fuck up and stop complaining that they only made 4 million instead of 7 million.

Yeah, but it really makes a difference with bands who are really small time. If their music is good enough, but the few people who like it only make the effort to buy through iTunes, they could be making jack shit. Bigger artists, especially those with crap for music, I could care less about.

My brother has a CD coming out soon, and he says he expects to make more money off of iTunes than off the actual CD.

Hmm... well I guess it differs from label to label. Unless he's not on a label; then I'd understand.
