STANZA 3:
If this still doesn’t mean we have some kind of connection.
At the very least, we’re smart enough to know.
We no longer need to ask why; we no longer need to say anything.
We both know and understand…that we are in love.
© Entering the school cafeteria, Byul could hear everyone talking about the same event, the upcoming College Ball. She can hear girls talking about gowns, accessories, salons, and of course who they want as their date. While the boys are busy exchanging ideas on how to ask a girl in their mind as their date without getting turned down and without clashing with someone one of their buddies. Byul smiled to herself, quite sure of whom her date would be. He didn’t ask yet but it was a given.
She ordered her usual Lime Slush and Cream puffs as she’s craving for some when she got her turn on the line. Carrying her snacks she spotted a very familiar back of a certain man and decided she would join his table, she knows his buddies afterall.
“Jung, do you have a date already?” she heard Yoochun ask as she was close to the table already.
“Yeah,” hearing the answer Byul smiled inwardly saying ‘That’s me!’ then he continued by saying, “I already asked her this morning. I’m still waiting for a reply though.”
Her smile immediately vanished. ‘What? But you didn’t ask me yet?’ she answered him in her mind. Then a realization dawned on her, Jung Yunho asked someone else to be his date. ‘But…I thought we were going there. Was I just being to assuming?’
Not wanting to embarrass herself further, she turned back and decided to just go to the rooftop and eat her snacks there. She was about to take a step, when she heard him call her.
“Byul! Over here! Behind you! Let’s have snacks together!” acting like she didn’t hear anything. She decided to take a step and another step then walking fast out of the cafeteria. She’s not ready to face him yet looking all cheerful when she just found out everything that has been going on for the past few months didn’t actually bear any special romantic meaning at all.
…
For the next three days, Byul decided to avoid Yunho in every way she can. But it seems like, this time, she can’t. He entered the Council Office and locked the door.
“Have you been avoiding me?” he asked when he was standing right on front of her who is busy reading the department project proposals submitted by the council department heads for immediate approval.
“Yes.” Byul felt like there’s no use lying anyway. Yunho can read her like a book.
“Why?”
“No reason at all.”
“Let’s change topic then. You’re not going to the College Ball? I heard.”
“Yeah. I don’t have a date.”
“You have me.”
The statement made her snap her head up to look at him as though he has grown to heads. “The girl you asked rejected your invitation?”
“When did I ask another girl? I asked you.”
“Asked me?” Now this doesn’t make sense at all, ‘When? How? What?’
“Three days ago, in the morning, I gave you a book which I told you to read within that day. Did you read it?”
“No. I was mad. I heard you in the cafeteria talking with your buddies. And…”
“And you presumed I was talking about another girl. Isn’t my feeling for you obvious enough Byul? I thought we already had an understanding? All we needed is some formality,” he cut her off.
Hearing his pronouncement, Byul can’t help but feel ashamed of herself. He sighed and in a soft voice asked, “Do you have it?”
“It’s at home.”
“I left a post it note in the first page of that book, I wrote, ‘Will you be my date?’…”
“Oh,” Byul bit her lower lip, and met his eyes. “Mianhe…”
“Gwenchana,” he smiled at her fondly and placed both of his arms on the table before moving down until his face is just an inch apart from her. “You need to make up for it though,” then he kissed her. She placed her hand of his nape and kissed him back. Moving their lips against each other until they’re almost out of breath, they pulled apart. But he swooped down again to give her a lingering kiss; she felt his lips form a smile before ending it.
“What were you thinking anyway? How could the ball proceed well without the Council President there? You’re the head of the event love,” he pulled her from the chair and maneuvered her so that he was leaning back on the side of the table and she is leaning back on him. He wrapped his hands around her waist.
“Well, you’d be there, the ever responsible Vice-President,” she answered in a teasing tone.
“But my mind and heart won’t be there if you’re not around. I would not be functional,” she felt him pulling her closer, body molding perfectly against her.
“Sweet talker,” she giggled.
“I am only like this to my girlfriend.”
“So I am now?”
“Why do you always need to clarify things? Those kisses a while ago were the formality we needed.”
"I thought you're smart," he continued.
"I am. You need proof?" she elbowed him a bit and he winced playfully in response.
"Then don't doubt your understanding."
“Araso. If you say so boyfriend,” Byul turned so she’s facing Yunho, and this time around she was the one who kissed him first.
It had always been ‘Dong Le,’ understood. Byul just misunderstood.
