Synopsis: It's late at night so of course, Elly ambushes John with a question about her appearance that has no right answer because Elly has an unacknowledged hatred of being reassured.

She doesn't get plastic surgery either. This is because she'd rather have a problem that she can hold over people's heads than be happy.

Plastic surgery I remember in particular. Back in the Coffee Talk days, Lynn Johnston made the claim that she had never had plastic surgery in one of her Lynn's Notes. What she might not have realized was that we had seen her letters to Phyllis Diller, which the Diller estate put up for auction for some reason, in which Lynn talked about having plastic surgery. I wrote a note to the Coffee Talk stating something like it was common knowledge that she had plastic surgery, and Lynn was forced to admit she had. Connie's plastic surgery was based on Lynn's own experience.
