When you look at the history of the characters, it becomes obvious that our hero doesn't have anything in the the tank that isn't "rock the baby to sleep" when they feel lost or confused. We don't explain how zit cream works and we don't make sure our advice is being followed, we rock Baby to sleep:

Like her mother, Liz is going to be a victim no matter what. If she stayed North she'd be homesick and sad all the time. She moved, so she's wandering around her old house mourning the "loss" of her previous life. Like her mother, she'd be completely friendless because nobody can bear to be with someone who refuses to be happy or at the very least miserable in silence. You can't tell me that Liz is going to "find happiness" with Anthony and doesn't spend years harassing the next-door neighbor with hours of "I had a handsome cop boyfriend and a cool independent career in a Northern community what happened" self-serving, one-sided blathering. You can't tell me that she's not going to be a pouty, miserable, put-upon "victim" roaming around Anthony's house wondering why "fate" lead her to this and why she isn't living the exciting life she thought she was going to have and "deserves." Especially after she gives up teaching to change the linens in her husband's Bed and Breakfast.
That's the thing, isn't it? The idea of being happy makes her feel bad because, to a stupid person like her or her mother, happiness is a bad thing. It "means" blindly accepting things artificially made into a catastrophe. I mean, the woman stood around horrified
Also, let's see what leads up to the Rock April To Sleep thing: April making a zit into a calamity without end because no one in a position to do anything about the issue told her that acne medication takes time to work or that directions are on bottles for a reason.
