Synopsis: Mike is blindsided by Rhetta not simply agreeing to be treated as if she has no choice to accept his changing the deal.

Summary: Love means never having to say I'm stupid.

As you know, I think Elly is a lot of the reason why Mike is a stupid person but the idiotic mess he made of his love life would not be made if he didn't take things so seriously. She is right for the wrong reasons when she moans about his being too close to a rival female.

Personally, I wonder what it is that makes the big dummy get so worked up in the first place. He's young, his dad can call in markers and get him dental surgery, he's reasonably good looking so this should not be a big deal but there he is, churning out shitty poems about her allegedly throwing his alleged love in the trash.

The heart of Mike's problem is that he is extraordinarily lazy and always looking for the easy way out. He does not have the will to tell Rhetta that he wants to chase after Jodi and/or Kit. Rhetta has to give him the excuse.

There's also his need to assign malevolent motives to those who force him to act.
