Oh my god I love myself for actually finishing ;A;
In the world, there are two types of people: the people that would do anything for something they wanted, and the people that think that dignity is their life.
In this story, the characters are formed of the former type, although they do branch out.
Because to these people, dignity was, is, and will be, nothing to their means of survival. If they had to beg to get their objective accomplished, so be it. And if they had to sacrifice their soul, what was the soul useful for anyway?
It was the less proud way to live life; but then again, it was the smarter way to live, because in this world, pride would only turn into reality and hit you like a tonne of hard metal bricks.
“Did you hear? Myungsoo got A+ from Professor Jun today.”
“Again? I thought Professor Jun was the Devil.”
“He is. Myungsoo’s just that perfect.”
“Did you see the way he smiled at that little girl that got lost in the campus this morning? He was so cute!”
“I know! It’s unfair, really, the way he’s got everything.”
“It’s because Kim Myungsoo isn’t a human. He’s a god.”
Definition of Kim Myungsoo; the perfect kid that has everything from appearance to wealth to intelligence-
“You… I thought I warned you against those…filthy things,” Mr Kim growled angrily. Myungsoo remained impassive.
“And I thought I informed you that I didn’t give a flying fuck,” he answered coldly.
“Kim Myungsoo! Do you realise that you’re taking illegal drugs? The risk you’re putting yourself and your father into?” Mrs Kim chided angrily.
“Of course. Why else would I not be listening to you two?”
-except for the fact that he takes illegal drugs just because he hates his parents.
“Hey, did you hear about Jung Haneul sunbae?”
“You mean that sunbae who looks like a teenager?”
“Yeah. Her personality is a lot more mature, though.”
“Really?! I can’t imagine her as being mature. Like, ever.”
“Well, she is. She’s like, the ‘it‘ girl of the campus.”
“Um, this isn’t Gossip Girl, you know.”
Definition of Jung Haneul; the kid that everyone views as innocent just because she looks like a teenager-
“How many did you get today?” Byunghun inquired, taking a small sip of his glass.
“Five. The police were giving the place a comb-over, so I had to be careful,” Haneul answered coolly, sucking at her straw.
“You’re cutting it close, babe. You’re supposed to get four, at the least,” he warned, not in a patronising way, and then he added, “Do you think they’ll hurt her?”
“The second they do, the second they break the contract, I’ll fucking kill them all.”
-except for the fact that she leads people into illicit drugs to protect someone.
“Woohyun sunbae’s parties are the best!”
“You’ve actually been to one?”
“Yeah, my brother took me. Anyone who’s anyone in this campus is there, even Haneul sunbae and Myungsoo!”
“Woah. I heard Woohyun sunbae was into drugs and alcohol, though.”
“Nah. He stayed completely sober the whole time. Even told the junkies to get out if they were going to pass around illegal stuff.”
“He’s pretty smart, for a party boy.”
Definition of Nam Woohyun; the kid that everyone assumes is a little dumb because he holds the best parties ever-
“Woohyun, darling, it’s time to take your medicine,” Mrs Nam called casually.
“I don’t understand the use of this. It’s not like I’m going to go release all the FBI’s secrets to the press,” Woohyun complained.
“Now, now, dear. You know it’s just safety protocols. After all, your brain is much too intelligent, and your head might explode!” she exaggerated.
“Mum, you and I both know that that’s physically impossible, unless you somehow managed to lodge an explosive into my brain. But just give me the pills so I can become some moronic university student again.”
-but is actually a genius that’s taking drugs so he won’t use his brain for evil.
“Have you heard about the mafia girl?”
“Who, Han Ga Yeon? Yeah, I heard that her parents are the heads of some super-scary mafia gang.”
“I heard that in high school, she got her daddy’s guards to threaten this boy that had rejected her into dating her.”
“Oh my God, what a bitch. I hope she doesn’t try any of that crap with Woohyun sunbae, or Myungsoo.”
“She wouldn’t dare. Everyone hates her enough as it is.”
“She shouldn’t be such a spoilt bitch, then.”
Definition of Han Ga Yeon; the kid who’s got connections to the mafia and is an abuser of those connections-
“How was your day at uni, sweetie?” Mr Han asked kindly.
“Um, Dad, I know you just want me to be safe and all, but do you think I could catch the bus home instead?” Ga Yeon asked cautiously, and her father’s face hardened.
“Now why would you want to do that?” he enquired, his voice bright but his face anything but cheerful.
“Well… Everyone thinks that I’ll get you to hurt them if they annoy me, or something,” she stammered, but quickly added, “It’s okay, Dad, don’t worry about it. I like being picked up, anyway.”
“I know.”
-even though she’s as innocent as a sheep and is only trying to keep her father happy.
“You know Junhyung sunbae, in the third year, right?”
“Yeah! He invited me to his party.”
“How lucky are you? There are people that would kill to get an invite.”
“But I’m kind of scared of going. He’s a drug addict, isn’t he?”
“Yeah, but he won’t, like, rage at you or something all of a sudden. He’s pretty relaxed most of the time.”
“Still. Drugs are illegal.”
Definition of Yong Junhyung; the kid that has the best parties ever even though he’s a drug addict-
“Junnie, I’m your best friend, right?” Hongki asked.
“No shit, dude,” Junhyung shot back, glaring, “Why else would I put up with your idiocy?”
“Then stop with the drugs, Junhyung. I’m serious,” Hongki retorted, and Junhyung closed his eyes.
“You know I can’t do that, Hongki,” he murmured.
“There are other ways to die, Junhyung! Other ways! Why, of all the ways, did you choose this one?” Hongki shouted.
“Because it’ll kill me slowly and painfully, so I can redeem even a tiny bit for what I’ve done.”
-even though he only takes drugs because he wants to die.
“Hey, that building belongs to Shin Hye sunbae, right?”
“Yeah. It’s her personal lab.”
“Didn’t she create some kind of cure for something?”
“I don’t know exactly, but I heard it was one of the rarest diseases in the world.”
“She’s so cool!”
“Yeah, but she’s scary as fuck. She doesn’t like company, you see. She prefers silence.”
“But all geniuses are like that.”
Definition of Lee Shin Hye; the kid that developed a cure for a rare disease because she’s just that smart-
“Why did you do it, Shin Hye?” Sunggyu asked curiously.
“Do what, idiot?” Shin Hye replied coldly, but Sunggyu did not falter.
“Why did you create that cure, even though you said you wanted her to die?” he continued to ask, “Did you develop some kind of sympathy?”
“I guess I did. I grew fond of her. I just want her to realise that dying isn’t going to do much.”
-when actually, she just wanted to save the girl that made her feel.
“Did you go to Yoseob sunbae’s rally about the anti-drug campaign?”
“Uh duh! He’s like, the most adorable thing ever.”
“I thought you were into Junhyung sunbae.”
“Nah. I’d much prefer the guy who hates drugs than does them.”
“Seriously? Those types of guys are really…dull. I’d much prefer someone who lives on the dangerous side.”
“Yeah. And I’d like a guy who didn’t have a risk of dying so early.”
Definition of Yang Yoseob; the kid who has those rallies about anti-drugs-
“So, how are sales going, bro?” Doojoon asked casually, leaning over to watch Yoseob press some numbers into a calculator.
“They’re around the same. Haneul had the police on her back, but the ones she did before came back,” Yoseob answered .
“I heard cocaine was difficult to find nowadays, though. How did you,” Doojoon remarked, pointing at the line which described the huge amount Yoseob had purchased, “manage to get so much?”
“Got Mr Han to pull some strings, obviously,” Yoseob explained matter-of-factly.
“And what did you have to do to that poor little girl of his this time?” Doojoon asked quietly.
“Just perform a routine check of all the bags in the particular class she was in.”
-even though he supplies them to people, at any cost.
“One, two, three… I thought there were four university council members.”
“Oh, don’t you know? One of them is Da Eun sunbae.”
“You mean that poor sunbae who’s deathly sick?”
“Yep. She gets all the lectures recorded, and hands in her essays and stuff from the hospital.”
“I heard she can’t go outside because the air’s too polluted.”
“Poor girl. Imagine missing out on university.”
Definition of Kim Da Eun; the kid that has some rare disease and can’t go outside because of it-
“Shin Hye sent over the less medicine-flavoured pills,” Hara coaxed, “You should take some.”
“But I don’t want to. I don’t want to be cured, Hara. Can’t I just die here?” Da Eun whined.
“Eunnie… How else will you be cured, and go outside?” Hara sighed.
“It’s not even a disease. It’s a fear. I made this fear because something traumatic happened, Hara. I don’t want to go outside. I don’t want to get rid of my fear. I want to die in this hospital room because of this fear, okay?”
-even though it’s actually a fear and she just wants to die.
And somehow, these people are all connected, intertwined in so many ways they could've never imagined.
