Nah, these whackjobs are just getting far more press attention than they deserve.
And what if they do form a militia? It's likely they have already (most teabaggers are armed douchebags). Another word for a TeaBag militia is "target of opportunity" for the State and Federal Guard units.
This reminds me of the militias on the southern border. I don't think they're as scary an idea as originally (although, not being Mexican illegal immigrant, I can't answer truthfully).
It seems that these Tea Party people, and Sarah Palin have inflamed a nothing-situation into something that could drive someone over the edge; but I think if something happens, it's not going to be anyone bigtime w/the Tea Party. It's going to come from some direction that no one thought of (although, really, the fact that there was a militia in Michigan that planned to attack the police was not a surprise).
No need to worry. These weekend-warrior wannabes wouldn't even be speed bumps for a guard or active military unit. What do a bunch of retarded rednecks think they are going to do with their lower-quality assault rifles against rockets and mortar attacks?
Become a bloody smear, that's what.
What they fail to understand is that armed revolt against the government is not legal, no matter what they try and cobble from their 5th grade understanding of the Constitution. The South found that out the hard way during the US Civil War . . .

Good thing no on-one told George Washington and his cronies that !!!
As for the Civil War proving anything (other than manufacturing is a bigger advantage in war than agriculture) well... just because the north won ... it didn't make it right ... or even legal.
A fundamental fact of war; The winners write the history and decide what is and is not true, right and legal.
Another fundamental fact of war ... all else being equal, God is generally on the side with the most guns. (Sorry Tea Party guys....)
I can't believe that Al Gerhart actually said, "But when do the states stop rolling over for the federal government?"
Well, to quote a typical right-wing response: When you leave the fucking country, asshole.
I think the problem with these yahoos is that if they are allowed to organize, it will give them an undeserved sense of empowerment and the feeling that they can use force to resist authority. There's nothing worse in this world than a bully with a badge.
Sure, they're going to be reduced to a fine meat paste if pitted against even the National Guard. Problem is going to be that first incident that brings the real military into the fray. The people who get targeted won't care that they're rednecks with sub-standard guns. A low quality rifle makes people bleed and die, too.
