Phase 1 COMPLETE

In my quest to own Rock Band, I have just completed Phase 1. I bought a PS3 (just a sucky 40 gig, but who cares, I have Sean's PS2 in my bedroom and Sean has a 60 gig PS3 in his man-cave). Now I just have to, um, buy Rock Band. I guess a stand-alone guitar that'll work comes out on April 1. This should all coincide nicely for when Liz & Natalie ( Read more... )

Nice!! I can't imagine having two PS3s...we just have the one which is doing a nice job gathering dust next to the 360 and serving as a blu-ray player for the five or so movies we watch in a year. :P Glad someone is getting use out of this system! You'll have to let me know how you like Rock Band once you get it.

It's the exact opposite for Sean -- he hasn't touched his 360 since we quit trucking. It's been all COD4 for him, and now it's Devil May Cry 4 (rented from Blockbuster). I don't think there's much I'll be good at on the PS3, but it is good for my DVD player downstairs -- I might try Burnout Paradise and Ratchet & Clank, but I don't suspect I'll be good at either of 'em. I suck. So yeah, pretty much just a Rock Band and Blu-Ray/up-conversion machine for me, unless Home is awesome or they release some good PSN stuff that I'd be into.

Yeah, Rock Band is good stuff. However, I refuse to buy it because of the travesty that is Guitar Hero on the PS3. You might also look into Heavenly Sword...which makes excellent use of the SixAxis system, and is not terribly complicated.

If one thinks GHIII is a travesty, doesn't that mean they SHOULD buy Rock Band? They're, like, mortal enemies, man! Do it to it.

I watched Sean play quite a bit of Heavenly Sword when he played through it right when he got his PS3. It was pretty, but waaaaay beyond my skill-set. I'm not sure if I could put into words how much I suck at video games in general. Let's just say I started to get left behind with the introduction of the N64. I stick to my DS and PSP not necessarily by choice... but because I can't handle much more. Thanks for tryin' tho :)

The problem isn't with GHIII, necessarily. It's the fact that GH and GHII are unplayable on the PS3. Despite the games working perfectly fine, there is no guitar functionality for them....and playing Guitar Hero with a regular controller is just...lame. It would only require a simple patch to fix it so that the GHIII guitars would work with the previous games...but that's being held up by somebody, and none of the third-party guitars that are out or are coming out will work with them, either. So, because Rock Band is made by one of the groups that is in this little shitfit, I can not buy it.

But...meh. You can always just try downloading lots of demos, and see which ones work for you.
