Chaos

I keep meaning to update more often but at least right now I have an “excuse”. You see there isn’t much time for updating when you spend a week in Seattle on conference (with little to no access to a computer) and also try to fit buying a condo and continue making wedding decisions in around the trip. If you read my last entry you would have seen that my fiancé and I made an offer on a two-bedroom condo here in Halifax. It is sadly not right on the peninsula but it’s close enough to make us happy. Happily, they made a good counter-offer and we accepted. So we are now careening wildly into home ownership (of a sort). We had two days before I left for Seattle to work out the mortgage stuff with the bank and do a home inspection as well as arranging a lawyer and obtaining some important condo corp documents from the seller. We managed to do all just before I left. I then left poor James to deal with even more of this stuff. He had to make sure we got more of the documents (like their electricity bills for the last year) and start looking into all of the utility arrangements as well as home insurance.

Fast forward to three days before closing. Insurance, utilities, and most of the paperwork and such is taken care of. We spent the weekend (and some of the week before) madly packing and are ~75% done. We bought a washer and dryer (and as part of the deal got a couch, patio set, and coffee table set) so that there are places for people to sit. We still need a decent table set but we’re hoping to acquire one of those this summer. We’ve already spent a huge chunk of money and will be spending a hell of lot more on Friday when we make the down payment and pay the other closing costs. But we’ll end up with an awesome, spacious, shiny, renovated, two-bedroom, three floor townhouse. With a dishwasher! And awesome new flooring, paint, windows, cabinets and kitchen appliances! And more! I shall post pictures when I get a chance to take some decent ones. I only took some rough ones when we had the home inspection and they didn’t turn out that well.

In non-house related news, wedding plans are steaming ahead. The caterer and reception hall are booked and we’re waiting to hear back from the church. I’m going home in June and hope to reserve the photographer, videographer, and dj (and possibly a florist although I’ve got to talk to my uncle about that). After that there aren’t many decisions to be made for a while although I hope to start meandering about looking at dresses this summer. And I still need to pick my final bridesmaid and decide on my maid of honor. I suck at decisions.

In non-grown-up boring news, we saw the DaVinci Code this weekend. It was a pretty good movie and it was Ian McKellan who totally sold it. He rocks muchly. We’re also going to see the local production of Evita this week. And I don’t know if I mentioned it before but I got a DS for my anniversary and I’ve been playing the Mario 64 DS game (can’t remember what it’s really called) and I started playing Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories whenever I can sneak time (which hasn’t been much since Seattle). I hope to make a post about my trip to Seattle soon as well. Writing my lj entry in Word first is a good way to spice things up at work when I need a break. :-)
