I'm watching someone die on Facebook. It's troubling, touching, and eerily fascinating. Technology will follow us to the grave. Are blogs and user profiles going to be used as sites of memorial as a person dies?
i've known a gal that died from complications that set in from a lung transplant that didn't take which she needed for her cystic fibrosis. I've known a gal who died, her friends suspected from an drug overdose, but her folks wouldn't let an autopsy be done, we believe because they felt it was better to just not know. Those are the only 2 that i know that died during my 9 years on lj. I still miss talking to them. But yeah, their lj's are silent testaments to their lives.
This person is in the process of dying and while he is not using his Facebook, others are by providing updates on his health and paying tribute to his friendship. Like I said, it's touching and eerie to see people talking to him through Wall comments as if he was reading them. It's like listening in to a prayer.
