I'm on lithium, have been for a while my levels are perfect, I've been having a really rough time since March when my fiance left me, kicked me out and cut off contact with her kids that I had been helping raise, love and support. I had been able to manage my anxiety without meds for the first time in years and then ( Read more... )

I'd say its always best to be honest with your doctors, but that's just my opinion!
Sorry you're having such a rough time, hope things improve soon x

I hate lying, but I've found that it does not always work to one's benefit to be honest about things like this. There are so many docs that don't understand the difference between use and abuse. I've used various drugs when I was younger and admitting that history has kept me from getting some of the treatment I need. I've even had docs who didn't understand the different between alcoholism and increased alcohol use as a symptom (always got on my nerves). Some docs will also decide the problems lie only in the drug use and not treat for anything else. It depends on your doc, but most still need to cover themselves and if they're aware of illegal drug use then for their own sake they may not be able to prescribe drugs scheduled at the level that benzos are.

I hope you get what you need and things improve. I recently had to go on Klonopin and started having panic attacks and so on after years without my anxiety being so bad, due to crazy life stuff, as well. :(

Unfortunately, it sounde like you need to ask your primary to refer you to a Pdoc, because anyPsychiatrist/psychologist who doesn't want to prescribe antidepressants/antianxiety meds for affective disorders doesn't really make any sense. I think you should explain to your primary that your Pdoc has that policy and that's why you had to start smoking pot again, and as a result of that, your Pdoc will not write the necessary script for Clonopin that will obviously help. He's putting you through unnecessary suffering by not writing that script.
