So hard to find a good med

May 26, 2014 09:54

I have bipolar type 2 and just need to have a bit of a rant. At the moment I am off meds, waiting to start a new lot and hoping that this will be the one that works. I have tried so many and they have all had side affects that make life even more difficult to cope with.

So I'm wondering what meds work for you? I am kind of interested to see how ( Read more... )

I felt called to comment on your post as it sounds so much like my experience. First off I was a guinea pig for at least 4 of the 6 years I was on medications for Bipolar II. I can't even remember all of the concoctions that were tried on me. The last 2 years I was taking anti depressants and anti anxiety along with pills for side effects of each. I was tired of the whole thing after that and talking my pdoc into weaning me off. I wanted to have a child and I was tired of being overweight from all of the meds ( ... )

I agree with this partially. I dieted and exercised for years and did yoga inparticularly to help with my mood swings. However, I still had mood swings and depression, they were just not as severe.

So for me I need a little of both. I think that's important not to rely on only one or the other, unless it really works that well for you. :)

Sorry if I'm a bit late to the party, but I am on Lamictal and Abilify. The Abilify has done A-MA-ZING things for my mood swings. Like... amazing. I'm not cray cray anymore. Lol. But seriously, it's so good I'm afraid to come off of it. :P

So I'm a month late... lonelyinheaven June 18 2014, 09:57:14 UTC
My current cocktail is lexapro 20mg, geodon 40mg twice a day (i get tardive dyskinesia, at a higher dose), buspar 15mg twice a day, pristiq 50mg, topamax 100mg, ambien 10mg, and klonopin 1-2mg. It has taken 5 years to get to this combo, now I've been on it for about 6 months, and I've been stable for about 3. Except for the chronic medication resistant insomnia that I don't think anything will ever help, but my body's become accustomed to surviving on 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Over the past two and a half years between the medication and developing binge eating disorder (while being treated at one of the leading eating disorder clinics in the country, ironic) I've gained around 100lbs. Also, TMI, but since going on geodon I can't be too far from a toilet cause when I have to go #2 I have to go immediately, there's no warning and no stopping it. Other side effects I live with are a moderate tremor in my hands which oddly enough is most noticeable when eating rice, night sweats, and duller cognition. I can't read for shit anymore ( ( ... )
