Is there even a future when all we look to is the past?

Is fashion dead? you're probably thinking to yourself: who the hell is this bipsy chick and why does she presume the position of asking a question that is literally 10 times bigger than she is, even on a good day?  That question is valid. But so is the first one.
I only ask it because the fashion blogs I frequent, and by frequent, I sincerely mean ( Read more... )

death, irony, fashion

Although it may look the same, it has a totally different feel and attitude behind it then it did in the 80's, if that makes sense. Fashion is fascinating for this reason, because it gets compared to art and art aims never to repeat itself, to create something this world has not seen before. Fashion though, doesn't always seem to obey that law and maybe it's for that reason, the significance changes with the context of the times and fashion is just more personal all around ( ... )

thanks for the comment...are you really anon or are you someone I know?
Ugg to designer labeled t’s and jeans. I haven’t even jumped on the skinny jeans band wagon, so I will not be jumping on the “Label whore” band wagon either. I like the classics in fashion…so a classic piece with a modern twist is something I appreciate the most.

Sorry, that was me, Christal. I started responding after I had logged out, forgetting I had logged out. I secretly really like your fashion posts, it's good to know there's someone else in this city that shares the addiction. Even if I don't love all the trends, like you say, sometimes there is a way to make them work and I find them fascinating for what they say about current culture. How about all of this kitsch suburban urban lodge decor stuff that's in fashion now? Deer heads and faun accesories(seen those creepy pillows?) are chic for vegan (s)urbanites who don't hunt and don't even know what a forest looks like! Oh, the irony! Fake laugh! Yeah, I don't know, some of it is pretty hard to redeem, but you can still have fun with it.

Thanks for posting Christal!
Are you going to the cabaret tonight? I'll be there.

Ha, that was cool in Vancouver when we left. I remember a pretty kitsch/chic shop in Yale Town hanging "pieces" from deer antlers. It is almost a triubte to animals...a thank-you for letting us take away their peaceful existence.

I agree it is fun.

You should check out (if you have not already) the fashion blogs I cite. I troll them everyday, dreaming...
Oh, i found another cool website of the DJ crew Misshapes last night. The party pics are amazing...droolable (a word?!) actually!

I'll post that....

There are only TWO ways to dress: like Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant did during the 30s and 40s. That is it. They wore perfect clothes for whatever occasion, and some of their outfits could practically be swaped and worn by either sex. We would all look so hurtfully radical all the damn day we would just die. Die beautifully.

Also, this 'nu-wave' shit saddens, well, the shit outta me. I wouldn't even call it nu-wave, but rather something like "oh-isn't-irony-like-so-fucking-cool-wave", beacuse that's all this is. Me hates it. Fashion is so obvious today, and the things to blame are ValueVillage and the Internet. But yet, I love them both so dearly. Twisted fated, what curses you weave! Your blanket is heavy; my will cannot free.
