Jeff Mangum is returning. Like for real. He posted on an Elephant 6 message board to announce it, and Pitchfork has reported on it. He says the new songs are a whole lot different, and no record will be coming out for a while, but the man is making music again.

That's interesting. It seems as though he intentionally fell off the face of the musical earth for a bit.

Yeah, he did. He became very depressed after In The Aeroplane and wasn't really able to write. But the faithful (the faithful=Danny) knew he couldn't stay away forever.
