Finishing a LOT of stuff all at once. :D

So I owe people memes!

Comment to this post saying you want to do the meme, and I will list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to this post if you'd prefer).

From somniumweb: Pokemon, Legend of Korra, make-believe partners in crime, New York/Portland, and bluebirds.

Bluebirds
I actually have no special connection whatsoever with bluebirds! The reason this is my username is because when I first made it (when I was like 14, lol) I was going to use it as a roleplaying journal for a character - ...okay, now that I think about it, there's some freaky full-circle shit going on here. Originally, I intended to use this account to play a character from a Pokemon manga whose name is Blue (in Japan, at least - her English name is Green) and who is a thief by trade. And I ended up just using it as a normal LJ account because I couldn't get her voice right. O-O Holy subconscious plagiarism, Batman!

Seriously, this is kind of creeping me out now.

ANYWAYS. The Pokemon Blue has ornithophobia, hence the username birdbrain Blue. LOL I'M SO PUNNY

I'm not sure what else to write here! Bluebirds are awfully pretty.

They're like magical blue robins.

New York/Portland
I lived in at least two states before I moved to Oregon (Kansas and North Carolina), but my family was living in West Linn by the time I was in first grade, and Oregon is the earliest place I've lived that I can remember with any clarity. I started growing up there, in a big grey house on a massive hill by the Willamette River. Oddly enough, I didn't really love Oregon until we moved, after my parents divorced. My mom, my siblings, and I went across the country to New York in the summer between fourth and fifth grade to be with her parents. We lived in an awful little village that's only notable because Billy Joel wrote a song about it, for some reason. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Falls <-- this exists, which shocked me. It's not the kind of place you'd think would have a Wikipedia page.

So, yeah! It was a tiny little town full of old people. I hated it... but my dad still lived in Oregon. For at least a month every summer, every Spring Break, and every other Christmas, we flew out west and stayed with him, always making sure to spend at least a day in Portland. Something about the atmosphere of the city just... sank into me, especially when compared to Highland Falls. Portland is unlike any other place in the world - the streets are lined with trees, little bubbling drinking fountains that look like actual fountains are scattered on the street corners, and there's a bookstore that takes up a city block. There's a parking lot full of food carts where restaurateur hopefuls sell their wares, and a riverside park a few miles long, and a rose garden. Decorative fountains and sculptures are everywhere. People play music on corners using nothing but sticks and overturned buckets and it sounds amazing. Portland is great because it's a city of artists and hipsters. The people there are passionate and random and overjoyed to be different. You never really know what you'll see! I once saw a parade of people dressed like pirates, it was awesome.

As for Highland Falls... don't bother visiting. It's a dying town - all the young people get out of there as soon as they can, and the old people stubbornly cling to their "village pride". The whole place will have been bought up by West Point and converted into, like, government employee housing or something within 30 years. I do miss it, but mostly because I miss my friends, my school, and the senior year I was supposed to have. The place itself sucks.

Thanks to the ~magic of the internet~, I can show you what my house looked like!

Reply to this post and I will pick five of your icons; then make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.

quorothorn chose:

I honestly can't remember where I got this. I think I just "borrowed" it from someone a loooong time ago, because I thought it was amazing and I didn't realize I was stealing it. And isn't it?! I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've stayed up late into the night because there's something really cool I need to check out online. The part I like best is how the epic shit is happening. It makes me feel like I'm experiencing some great new historical event, when really I'm just putting off sleep to look at ponies or something. It captures that too - "Epic Shit.... ON THE INTERNET." Like the internet is some incredibly awe-inspiring unexplored territory and not a seething mass of porn and cats.

I made this one myself after the Promise leaks came out a little while back. I really don't use it that often, but I'm not about to get rid of it anytime soon, because THAT IS JUST THE BEST FACE. Look at its majesty. It's hilarious, adorable, and unsettling all at once. Even if it does look kinda fuzzy.

So every now and then I'll make a post on the capscomm with this icon, and inevitably one of the first few comments is always "OMG YOUR RPATZ DERP ICON, LOL". I think once somebody told me they called their roommate in to see it and they both just laughed for five minutes. That was awesome to hear, even if I can take no credit for its existence. I like to imagine that people who barely know me on LJ think of me as "the person with the Robert Pattinson derpface icon." This thing is pure magnificence.

OHOHOHO. It's pimping time.

This icon is of art from a new anime I've recently become a huge fan of called Puella Magi Madoka Magica (also known as Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica). I can quite honestly say it's right up there alongside greats like ATLA and Cowboy Bebop on my list of favorite cartoons. Everything about it - the music, the colors, the animation quality, the characterization, and most of all the writing - is just superb. In fact, the writing is so good that I can't even really tell you what it's about without giving away the nature of the show and spoiling you. The best I can tell you is that it's a magical girl anime, but it's a magical girl anime completely unlike any other out there. Go watch it, and do so without looking up anything about it first. ANYTHING. FROM ANYWHERE. It relies heavily on stunning plot twists and finding them out beforehand can really mess up a beautiful show for first-time viewers. Trust me. WATCH IT.  (I think an ideal time to see it would be right after finishing Sailor Moon, actually. Ahem.)

You can watch the whole thing online here: http://www.animeultima.tv/watch/mahou-shoujo-madoka-magica-english-subbed-dubbed-online/ Pick the facebook/MySpace versions when you can, those are the most HQ.

The whole thing is only 12 episodes long. I finished it in two days. But I'm warning you, I'm going to want your ~feelings~ after every single one. I WANT TO LAUGH AT HOW UNPREPARED YOU'LL BE.

^ this icon represents my feelings if you don't go see PMMM. THE END okay no not really. Sad blinking Rarity! I like it because if you just scroll down the page, you might not realize it moves. It's also pretty dang cute. :3
