CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Luke fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss)
In-Game Name: Luke fon Fabre
Age: physically 17, mentally 7
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Passenger, Silvana

Appearance: Luke stands at 5' 7" and weighs roughly 150 lbs. His head sports a mess of red hair, coming down past his waist, and interestingly, the tips are lighter, as if bleached. His eyes are a vivid shade of green. Additionally, he keeps a sword with him 24/7. While he doesn't like using it, it's the one thing he has with him from home and serves as security; he's left-handed, and wields it accordingly. Luke is by no means an intimidating person. Though he does possess a nice set of abs by some standards, there is something decidedly "lazy" about his appearance. Perhaps it's something about the eyes, or maybe his preference for wearing baggy pants - when he can get away with it, that is. Most of the time his family forces him into something much more formal, appropriate for meetings with other well-to-do families and politicians - which is tight, uncomfortable, and by those two characteristics, obviously attire that he hates. (I'm thinking the Viscount title costume, which consists of a blue royal/military-esque top with two "tails", includes white gloves, a scarlet sash, white pants, and boots)

When he has his way, he's wearing something loose and comfortable. He's been trained in the ins and outs of etiquette, but he chooses to disregard them most of the time. If you didn't know any better, and he wasn't reminding you constantly, you'd assume he was just some average guy, albeit one who's difficult to please.

Personality:
Luke is pretty much a spoiled brat and the way his family's status has gone to his head borders on arrogance. Ever since he was kidnapped as a child he's been fussed over. Life was pretty comfy, but since his world is limited to the confines of the manor (conveniently located atop one of the city's skyscrapers - making escape nigh impossible), there's a certain amount of defiance within Luke. As spacious as his home is, to Luke it's dull and lonely. Thus, he sets his sights on bigger and better things. Between watching the birds and airships flying by above him from his favorite tree, Luke occupies his thoughts with the day he's finally granted freedom. Luke's future pretty much hangs on his 20th birthday.

Basically, Luke is a kid. He behaves and thinks in childish ways. Luke's an incredibly picky eater: his list of hated foods far outweighs his favorites (shrimp and chicken). He also has a bit of a complex in regards to his height, which Guy teases him about. Other things that top his hate list are "pets" and getting his shoes dirty. (You can't blame a guy raised in luxury for wanting to stay clean!) Despite the many things he finds irksome, Luke's not a mean person at heart. Under the surface he's awkward and in many ways kind - he just doesn't know how to show that kindness to other people, being spoiled and cut off from most of the world as he is. This isolation makes him both naive and extremely gullible. He has pretty much zero idea about the intricate workings of the world; of commerce, of war, of religion, of government. He doesn't even know how serious things are between Ivona and Vohemar. It's all foreign to him, except the fact that his family's important, and he uses that as leverage. If there's something he wants, he expects to get it RIGHT NOW.

Additionally, Luke's an open book, he cannot keep a secret to save his life and he's very frank about his opinions and emotions. However, if someone gets hurt because of Luke, he will try to apologize. Now Luke isn't good with apologies, but if he feels guilty, he will make an honest effort. He tends to tell the truth and is incredibly trusting, and in the rare event that he lies, it's completely obvious. This fact makes him easy to manipulate - if you can get him to cooperate with you. (A good place to start is by gritting your teeth and being nice to him.)

So what about things Luke likes? He likes sword training and music (apparently; he has a music player in his room). He also has an unhealthy habit of wasting money, and he's incredibly skilled at this.

Luke's fairly observant on certain rare occasions, but he also has a habit of missing things (from holes to facets of human personalities) that are glaringly obvious. He gets jealous easily, too. He hates being ignored, especially if it's related to someone he likes or looks up to. Luke wants to feel like he's appreciated, so when he gets praise and attention - he's ecstatic. Luke therefore develops something of a hero complex when it comes to Master Van. After all, Van can do no wrong. Indeed, when Van decides to make use of Luke, Luke obeys like a puppy without really questioning or doubting his instructor's motives. Unknowingly the young noble is walking right into his master's plans...

Abilities/Weapons:
Luke does know the basics of swordsmanship. Van Grants would commonly visit House Fabre and give him private lessons in the courtyard. This does not, however, mean that Luke's skills are very polished. He's never been in an actual battle before, not even against monsters, so his movements leave much to be desired. He possesses potential, but he's not yet been tried and still has much to learn. There are several abilities that he can perform, known as "artes" that give his sword techniques more power through the use of fonons (essentially magic).

Another ability that Luke possesses is known as "hyperresonance" which he has the (not-quite-)unique ability of creating on his own. Hyperresonance, when used properly, can create or break down matter. In Luke's case, he can erase things. Much like his swordsmanship, however, Luke cannot control his hyperresonance and knows very little about it beyond the result and the side effects that follow. He could never destroy anything large with any amount of precision, but he'd be able to carve into objects with practice. It's also possible that he could erase larger inanimate things (roughly the size of a car?) - but he'd have no control over it, it'd be messy, like a small explosion. Ideally, while performing hyperresonance Luke has to remain still and concentrate, he stretches out his arms and channels his fonons through there - it requires not only a lot of fonons, but a lot of physical energy, so if he was tired or sick, he wouldn't be able to do it at all. Also if he was fighting a seventh fonist, the two might cause a hyperresonance between them purely by accident (for example, in canon this happened between Luke and Tear and they were teleported into another country).

Also, it might be important to note that if the game ever gets an(other) Asch, since Luke is his replica, Asch would be able to make a connection and the two could channel their thoughts to one another. Luke cannot establish this connection - only receive. Other replicas would potentially be able to sense that Luke is a replica and anyone sensitive to fonons might be able to deduce that he's made up of the seventh fonon.

How well can your character hack?: None. Luke and tech do not mix well, and he's probably lucky he can use a difference engine at all.

Weaknesses:
Luke just cannot keep things to himself, be it confidential information or even his own emotions. He's not above whining or crying in public, nor is he above telling people exactly what he thinks, even if they are figures of authority.

Luke also has his pride - given his upbringing (being wealthy and part of a prestigious military family), he believes himself to be important and expects others to listen to him and cater to his needs. He absolutely hates being ignored and left out of the loop. He flourishes with attention and guidance, but when he's left to his own devices, well... he becomes a brat. Therefore, if you get him mad or upset, or tell him that he's annoying, you will definitely throw him off-balance.When/if Luke discovers he's actually a replica, it will basically destroy his self-image. Luke is quite susceptible to guilt, and if he discovers that he basically stole someone's identity, he will feel it necessary to return that person to his proper place, and in the process he would feel that he had lost his and begin to question his existence.

Another thing Luke has going against him is a lack in military experience - the abilities he possesses are not yet polished. He may be able to wield a sword, but when an enemy comes at him and he has to either "kill or be killed", Luke will freeze up. Likewise, his hyperresonance is another thing he doesn't fully understand. With the right strategy, Luke could be tricked into destroying numerous small or medium-sized objects... perhaps destroying or blasting a hole into an important piece of equipment, as an example. His ignorance is definitely his greatest weakness. If Luke should fall into such a trap and make a large mistake, he would try desperately to place the blame elsewhere and insist that he didn't know this was going to happen.

On the hyperresonance note, as a side effect of using the ability, Luke becomes physically drained and has to rest. Using hyperresonance for an extended period of time will wear him out significantly and can even cause him to pass out on the spot. Additionally he suffers from chronic migraines. It's rumored that Luke "hears voices" in his head and complains of nightmares, but no one's been able to explain it.

History:
House Fabre claims to be descended from a family of fabled Ivonian warlords and is well-known throughout Bellcius (although not so much elsewhere). Crimson Fabre is a man of the military who lives together with his sickly wife Suzanne (originally from Erealia) and his one son, Luke fon Fabre. At a very young age it was decided that Luke would attend Belarus Academy and follow in his father's footsteps - becoming a soldier or a politician, someone important. Additionally it was decided that Luke would one day be wed to Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, an extended member of the royal family of Erealia and distant cousin on his mother's side of the family, as a public sign of the families' goodwill.

Though House Fabre tried to quell rumors, it is known by some of the population that seven years ago Luke was kidnapped and taken aboard an enemy vessel. They immediately blamed the incident on the cities of Vohemar, but in actuality, the kidnappers came from within Ivona. The young child was taken to the family's summer home and promptly locked in a cell in the basement. Vandesdelca Musto Fende, otherwise known as Van Grants, working alongside a group of scientists, attached the child to a machine and managed to create a replica through the use of a forbidden technology - fomicry. This replica was to be conveniently left to be found and taken in by House Fabre as a substitute. The real Luke, meanwhile, was convinced that his family would be satisfied with the copy. When the child rebelled, escaped, and found his way back to his home, he discovered just that - his family and the maids were all coddling his fake, even though the replica lacked coordination and would throw tantrums frequently. Crestfallen, the original Luke went with Van to be trained in combat, shedding his identity and taking up a new name, Asch the Bloody.

The replica Luke, meanwhile, was forced to "re-learn" everything. As a result of having been kidnapped, Luke was suffering from "amnesia" and had become a wide-eyed, skittish crybaby, unable to recall anything at all. For the next seven years Luke had to learn how to walk, talk, and memorize various other points of common knowledge, all the while being soothed and pampered; after all, the poor thing had lost his memories due to the trauma of being kidnapped. Guy Cecil was put in charge of the boy and a seperate room was built in the middle of the premises for Luke to reside in - a place where he could easily be watched. Due to the incident, he forbidden from leaving his home until he reached adulthood. Crimson, having lost his son once before, and discovering through prophecies that his son was doomed to die, remained cold and distant. This case of house arrest, though with the best of intentions on the part of some, only served to add to Luke's growing ignorance.

As time passed, life became increasingly mundane for Luke. The only things he really came to enjoy were training with Van Grants, talking to Guy (pretty much the only person he considers a friend) when the other servants weren't looking, and searching for someplace where he wouldn't be found and nagged to death about tending to his studies and being careful that he didn't hurt himself.

One day during their routine training session, Van reveals to Luke that the reason he's being held captive in his own home is because his father and country plans to use him as a "secret weapon". (Isn't it strange that he was never sent to a formal academy, despite the accident? Isn't it unfair that they've been holding you a prisoner in your own home?) Van explains to Luke that in order to avoid becoming Bellcius' "pet dog", Luke should run away with him and use his hyperresonance to help clear away smog in some less fortunate parts of the world - then he can become a hero in the public eye and be treated like a real person. After all, Van tells him, Luke possesses a unique gift - he's the "only" person who can create a hyperresonance on his own.

Luke doesn't want to be used for war, and so readily agrees. After making plans with Van (more like Van telling him what the plans are), Luke (unknowingly being assisted by both Guy and Pere) sneaks out of the manor, into the outside world in order to make the rendezvous and become a hero just like his Master promised. In the process Luke is intercepted by an unknown enemy. He tries to defend himself, and as a result, causes a hyperresonance. The fonons within Luke's body go out of control and the last thing he knows, he's being rocketed through the air. After blacking out, he awakens in enemy Vohemaro territory. Alone. With no way back to his home or to Master Van, and no idea of what to do next. Not wanting to return home to Bellcius, and being unaware of Van's current whereabouts, Luke takes passage aboard an airship, hoping to find some answers, or at the very least, rest his travel-weary feet.

SAMPLES-
Third Person (roleplay):
Luke groaned as he yanked himself to his feet. His head still throbbed as a result of... whatever that was. So much for meeting up with Master Van and running away together. If only those guys hadn't gotten in the way! Luke could feel his temper boiling, but was held back as another wave of pain vibrated through his head.

"Oww... was-- was that hyperresonance? Master Van mentioned it a few times. He said it was why I get these headaches all the time."

As Luke confirmed this, his words caught in the back of his throat. It was already morning! Just how long had he been knocked out for? What was worse, Luke had no idea where he was. In the distance he could see mountains, not the cityscape he was used to. This couldn't possibly be Bellcius. He couldn't even be sure if he was still in Ivona.

"Great. Not only did I lose Master Van, but I have no idea where I am! And there's no one around to ask, either."

True enough, the area was deserted save for the flora that dotted the ground, swaying gently in the breeze. Come to think of it, Luke had never seen this many plants in one place before, nor had he experienced this kind of freedom; it was overwhelming. Somehow, being completely independent was less lonely than being surrounded by people who only gave him attention because they were being paid to do so. On the other hand, he was just a little bit scared.

"Heh. Okay. This-- this is nothing. I'll just start walking until I find the nearest town and demand that someone find a way to send me back home. It'll be a piece of cake!" Even as he said this, Luke had his doubts, but it was best to stick to the plan. It wasn't like he had many options open to him anyway.

First Person (journal):
Oh brother... Haven't any of these people heard of House Fabre before? "Give that apple back!" "You can't take food without paying!" "I need a full stock for when I go to Boston in the fall!" Where the hell is "Boston" anyway? Yeah, whatever. It's bad enough those guys attacked me and caused me to get separated from Master Van, but I wake up and I'm somewhere in the boonies! Ugh... there's dirt in my eyes, dirt in my hair... I don't want to even talk about the state of my clothes. The maids would have a fit if they saw me right now, I bet. Not that I care. It'd probably do them some good to have something new to fuss over besides whether or not I'm eating my vegetables.

Great. Just great. What am I supposed to do now? It's not like I know where I am or how to get back. I never got to leave my home before, after all! At least not that I can remember... Damn. It's one of those headaches again... I really wish Master Van were here, at least he'd know what to do.
