these are the books i've read so far in 2013. if you're also on Goodreads, you'll notice that there are some books here (labelled nGR) that do not appear in my Goodreads challenge totals. this is for various reasons. sometimes they are re-reads that were counted in my 2012 tally, sometimes they are re-reads that i just didn't feel like including,

Also, 107? I'm so impressed! I'll be lucky to break 100 this year with all the boring stuff I refuse to finish or give up on.

I'm pleased about the 107 although I didn't read nearly as many "serious" novels as I was planning. I always get sucked in by the shiny YA fantasy fic. ;)

I was going to read more serious stuff, too, and ended up going all random and just buying new books to read instead. My big goal is to finish the 6 or 7 that I've been reading all year in the next two months.
Part of the fun of having our own comm is we can come back whenever we want. Meaning next year will be fine. I totally get the attraction of the shiny. :D

And you are awesome for waiting for me to catch the hell up. ;)

Art time is THE BEST. Hope you can get some soon. I would like to spend more time doing art myself but lately, I'm all about escaping into the world of books ...

Also, have you heard of the author Rainbow Rowell? I just read two of her books "Eleanor and Park" and "Fangirl" and I am SUPER into her right now.

I also loved The Name of the Wind - which I've wanted to read forever - and The Wise Man's Fear, despite their flaws. I read The Name of the Wind in pretty much a single day at my parents' cottage. I was so engrossed. I'm just sorry that now I have to wait for book 3 to come out. :(
And, yes, do give the Divergent series a try. The books are real page turners. There is lots of violence, though, so be warned. And they aren't perfect. I picked up on a few lapses in logic but the story is so face-paced and she's created such an interesting society that I was willing to overlook them.
It's funny that you mentioned Rainbow Rowell. The cover of Eleanor and Park totally caught my eye at the library and then I saw that one of my friends at Goodreads was reading Fangirl. I'm ( ... )

Sadly, the Rainbow Rowell books were checked out when I made it to the library. I'll have to implement some holds. I haven't read any John Green, but The Fault in Our Stars is on my TBR list. It's just always checked out at the library.
I think Divergent could be a good book to listen to on CD. It's not so complicated that it would be difficult to follow. And it's first person narration so provided the reader is someone who is believable as the main character, it could work very well.
I didn't like The Wise Man's Fear as much either and didn't barrel through it quite as quickly. I wasn't sure why, either, but I think your comment that it felt less consistent is spot on. I'm also starting to worry that the entire thing is going to be about what happened in the past and not move forward from the inn. I want Kvothe to get his powers back!!

How did you like Smoke and Bone? And did you like Kingdoms of Dust? I didn't see a rating on GR (not that I'm totally stalkery on GR and pay close attention to your reading updates except that I do :)
You look like you had an AWESOME October! Excellent!

I liked Smoke and Bone quite a lot. Very original and it gave me a burning desire to visit Prague. I got a little bogged down in the sequel, Days of Blood and Starlight, which I tried to read before I re-read Smoke and Bone. I'm hoping it was just where my head was at the time and that my second try will be more successful.
I did like Kingdoms of Dust but haven't rated it on GR yet because I'm still trying to decide where it falls on my scale. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to influence you but I am eager to know what you think of it when you get to it.
If the update-monitoring is mutual, is it GR stalkery? Do we cancel each other out? Or does the stalkery factor instead increase exponentially? These are the things I ponder ...

Weirdly, it's something Day Job does research on. For instance, we're currently running a project where 5 different classes at 5 different middle schools across the state all read the same book at the same time. Then they get on Google hangout and squeal at each other (in a guided, educational way). They also go on Edmodo and talk about the book in forums, or answer questions about it. Honestly, it's a lot like OLC if OLC was populated by 200 5th graders.
So maybe not a lot like OLC, now that I think of it.
But they do get to give each other badges...

So maybe not a lot like OLC, now that I think of it. No, maybe not. Although I wouldn't be adverse to badges ...
