Raven sat in her bed, visibly upset, though thankfully no one was there to see her. At least not yet...soon, River would be arriving. After that conversation online with the crazy new Headmistress, she needed to talk to the girl who considered herself a friend ( Read more... )

As River made her way down the hall to Raven's room, she bit her lip thoughtfully. Raven seemed unhappy, but not at her. She seemed... scared, almost, in the way that Raven got scared. Which made sense. River had known for a long while that Raven was half demon, having Seen it, among other things, and it must have been upsetting to her to hear that the headmistress regularly killed others like her. Raven didn't seem like the type to seek comfort, but perhaps that was what she was wanting?

Having reached her destination, River knocked at the door.

Still staring out the window of her room when she heard the knock, Raven let out another sigh. Part of her didn't want to talk about this at all, but on the other hand, if River didn't know then it would help to keep her from accidentally talking so much about such a sensitive subject unaware. If she did, then she's a Seer and she probably knows what little Raven would be willing to talk about and perhaps more. Either way it probably mattered very little - if the new Headmistress was a demon hunter and already suspected Raven of her lineage, then she may as well pack her bags and get ready to be expelled. Or worse.

Raven lifted her cowl to conceal her face as she attempted to regain control of her emotions. Pausing a moment to collect her thoughts and strengthen her resolve, she used her powers to unlock and open the door from across the room, not really feeling like getting up.

River poked her head into the room. She saw Raven staring out the window, and River could sense... sadness. River frowned, concerned for her friend. "Raven? Are you all right? Can I come in?"

"I'm just fine," she replied flatly, hiding the emotion in her voice as best she could. "Yes...come in." As she said those words, Raven realized that it was probably the first time she had ever invited someone to come see her, welcoming them into her private space.

As she magically closed and locked the door behind her guest, she tried to think of what exactly to say to River first. To thank her for being a friend and sticking up for her? Asking her if she knew about her father? Explaining her situation? No, she had to know already...

After the short pause, she quietly asked River about that online argument. "Why...why did you say those things to the Headmistress. About...me?" Bluntly, she asked the underlying question all at once. On the chance that River didn't know, she could always explain herself later, but if she did, then why did she continue to speak to her, much less stand up for her against the most powerful figure in the school? Slightly anxious, Raven sat in silence as she awaited the response.
