Ok, can LJ be any more stupid?

I'm doing the newsletter, and I always used the permalink link at the end of each post, or the one from the header to do the actual linkage. Now, I can't do it anymore. I need to go inside the post, and copy the link from my address bar. Why? Because all links in LJ are now affiliated to VigLink ( Read more... )

I've missed you, petal. I hope the reasons you haven't been around are happy ones. ♥

*hugs* It's a mix. There is a lot of stuff going on right now, some good, some bad, some neutral. I hope I'll be able to come to play soon. At least, I need to find the time to complete my turn on Crack Van *sigh*

Try to be good to yourself, petal. ♥

You only need a minimum of four stories for Crack Van so if you've already made your quota, which I suspect you have I'd cross if off your "must do" list.

Yes, that was what annoyed me the most! There were no way to tell, except if you tried to copy the link, because then, when it came out like gibberish you'll be looking for what was going on!
And I only noted because I do the newsletter using Opera. My default browser is FireFox and I'm using a disabling referral tool here. *sigh*
Sneaky is not a good way to do business LJ!

What they did was to ad a referral to any link in Live Journal. This means that let's suppose you have your own Amazon referral, and post a link (with your own Amazon code) to get credit or money for any sale that comes from it. Well, now, your referral will be lost, and it will be LJ who will cash the money.
Or, you don't have any referral link, you just link to something amusing at ThinkGeek, and some friends of you buys something there, following your link; LJ will get money from your free link.
What it's worst is that they didn't say a word about it, because they thought they could get away with it. Because you will note the links are slowing down, but you can't see anything wrong in them. Except when you copy and paste the links, which was how I found it.
And this wasn't the first time they did something like this, last time they got a storm shit when they were exposed, and yet, there they are, doing it again.
This is no way to do business. And, under American laws, it's not only unethical, it's plain and simple illegal.

Thanks for the notice about this link stuff. It is a little creepy that the default setting is on for everyone. I thought LJ was just a bit slow lately.

Oh, no! What it's REALLY creepy is that they never let us know about it. Because this is not a setting, but a way for them to make money from our links, adding their own referral to any link we post in our own LJs. This is not the first time they do something like this, and really, I'm tired and sick of this kins of stuff popping up all the time *tired sigh*
