You *do* love a challenge, doncha? But, see, this doesn't seem Mary Sue-ish to me! This poor girl does the best that she can in a bad situation, and her characterization is a strong mix of dignity, bravery and fear. It made me think of some of the unfortunate heroines of myth. :-(
To be really Mary Sue-ish, you'd have to mention her glossy haircolor, her devotion to one of the canon characters, or something equally silly (which I said you wouldn't -- or couldn't -- do!)
Marius had been sitting there for hours when suddenly he had heard a silent voice crying, Run! Escape! Looking outside quickly, he had seen a girl rush out from a taxi with a backpack. She seemed to be looking for someone, as far as Marius could tell; she kept glancing back over her shoulder. Her long, matted brown hair partially obscured her face, but Marius saw she had large brown eyes. He’d watched her dark form slice its way quickly through the thick crowd, away from the taxi

Oh yes! MUCH BETTER! I thought initially it was Les Mis fic (with the beautiful-but-dirty girl being Eponine) but it's Anne Rice, from whom I learned all the technicalities of slash fiction!
For someone who hasn't eaten in almost two millennia, Marius remembers the different kinds of brown food pretty well! :-)
Like I said in my post to Dee, there is nothing wrong with writing Mary Sues -- they can be so much fun (like this one is!) I think my first and only forays into writing (when I was about 13) were Mary Sues, absolutely! But like you said, self-awareness is everything. In a community for Very Very Serious Fiction, Mary Sues are not always appreciated for the niche they fill (like Chick Lit).
Oh, I totally judge yourubynyeAugust 24 2010, 00:52:38 UTC
I judge you as brave, talented and AWESOME. Cadet Moreau absolutely captured my heart in her tangible struggle through this terrible experience (I want to hug her, to know so much more about her, I want to know that she gets out of there, I want to know that she's going to be okay). And, well, I really love original characters as universe-explorations, and she's a grand one.
Ah, I see. It's a bit sad I don't feel capable enough of the english language to write fics, I do have quite some ideas, also for Star Trek (but right now mostly TNG, as I rewatched it completely a while ago). There was this one episode in season 7, where this Bajoran cadet helped a Cardassian spy getting back into Cardassian territory again and that so much screamed for non-con or even hurt/comfort ... oh well :) And Battlestar Galactica also made me have some nice (mean) ideas.
Oh well, anyway. Right now I'm working on making myself a book containing my favourite fanfics and well, this one and the Cadet/Cardassian ones will go in there for sure :D

Have you thought about writing them and having them translated? There seem to be fans everywhere who will do a nice turn for a fellow fan if they can. And your ideas sound lovely. :)
ETA: Also, is your icon from Hellboy II? Hello, pretty.

i'm curious ... where are the Ra'ani from? also DS9? or some other universe? or your own? couldn't find any info/pics on them ...

I made up the Ra'ani for the sake of having a villain. If anything, the name comes from a character, Rani, on Dr. Who.
