Other forms of birth control?

Aside from hormonal contraceptives, what other options are out there these days? I have tried three different birth control pills (gave each a fair chance, at least 6 months to a year) and all have made me feel pretty crappy, sometimes even depressed. My boyfriend of four years does not want to use condoms because we have been together for so long ( Read more... )

I'm pretty sure you can buy the sponges in the drugstore now. I've seen some advertisements for them lately. According to their website (http://www.todaysponge.com/) it is 89-91% effective ( ... )

Yup, and -- at least in the U.S., where my contraceptive experiences have happened -- it can be even a little tricky then. Diaphragms and cervical caps require an actual fitting, and it's becoming less and less common for providers to keep around the sizing kits. I only had to call 2 places (my GP and my gynecologist) to check to see if they did fittings, but apparently in my city, there are a substantial number of gynecologists (and also GPs, I'd imagine) who don't prescribe diaphragms or cervical caps at all.
