Continuing from my super embarrassing post here, I have watched even more fabulous half-hour Johnnys' dramas. Of course, I've watched a lot of other dramas with Johnnys' in them, but these have multiple Johnnys' in them and are faster to watch, so those are definite pluses.
These aren't in order of how I watched them (they are in order of how they aired), but let's begin.
Most important (because I love SixTONES) was to watch Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou. This is the drama where those lovely boys were first put together, but they didn't become an official unit with the name SixTONES until years later. Takaki Yuya from Hey! Say! JUMP also stars, as does Miyata Toshiya from Kis-My-Ft2. Uchi Hiroki makes a guest appearance in both the TV series and movie, while Tamamori Yuta from Kis-My-Ft2 appears in the movie. This drama featured Johnny's Entertainment and AKB48 idols. The drama's genre is school - one of my favorites.
The plot is basically this: A prestigious all-girls school (played by AKB48 members) merges with an all-boys school full of deliquents. SixTONES + Takaki Yuya make up the core group of boys. The prissy girls (from one of the weirdest schools EVER - I mean, I've watched a lot of dramas and this place is crazy/creepy) eventually reach an understanding with the boys and vice versa. The girls are very rigid, but that's what I expected them to be like just from reading the synopsis. The girls didn't do a bad job (acting) in this drama. I think they were asked to play their characters stiff and Children of the Corn-like (their characters are not that bad). Since the boys' characters were livelier, they were more fun to watch.
Does my love for SixTONES make me love this drama maybe more than it deserves? Probably. Is a good drama nonetheless? Yes. Yes it is.
If you're into yankee (delinquent) school dramas, this is for you.
AND, don't forget, there's a movie in which Tamamori Yuta fulfills my dream of seeing a Johnny look like Matt Jacobs (because Tamamori...in that outfit...that's what Matt Jacobs is gonna look like in my head from now on). (Matt Jacobs is a character in the '80s book series Couples. He's a mechanic and one of the best guys in the series (as long as we all pretend the later books NEVER HAPPENED). Check out the Couples books here. They're worth it (as long as you ignore the last 7 books or so). My dream guy would be a mix of Woody (a theater geek) and Matt Jacobs - which means that my dream man is actually Nagase Tomoya of TOKIO.)
Also in the movie are 6-member Snow Man (Fukazawa!!) as the antagonists.
Okay, maybe 2 reasons. After Jesse, those two are my favorite Johnny's.
The drama is fighting/comedy. The drama stars Nakajima Kento (SZ, I will refer to his group as SZ always - I refuse to spell out the name when they were debuted under that name as children) as transfer student Kiriki Tsukasa. Tsukasa is a sweet young man who has just moved to Hiroshima. He meets Kawanaka Yoji (Iwamoto Hikaru - Snow Man), Iwami Eiji (Fukazawa!!), and Nakamura Hisao (Watanabe Shota - Snow Man) who are members of a gang called Gokurakuchou. Tsukasa is a very powerful fighter if he is defending the weak, and, with his power, becomes the new leader of Gokurakuchou. The drama follows these members of Gokurakuchou as they meet/fight with members of the number 1 gang, BEAST, led by Danno Hidenori (Nikaido Takashi), and the number 2 gang, Nights, led by Hiro (played brilliantly by A.B.C-Z's Hashimoto Ryosuke - Hiro is hilarious). The gangs of Hiroshima fight to find out who is number 1. Just as important as the leaders of these gangs are the women behind them. Yoshimoto Kumi (Hashimoto Nanami from Nogizaka46) is Tsukasa's crush who works at the cafe the Gokurakuchou members frequent. Nakai Kaori (Itano Tomomi, ex-AKB48 member) leads BEAST with Danno. Their characters seem to speak to each other telepathically. Danno broods through most of the show. Sato Erika (Triendl Reina) is Hiro's girlfriend, and, quite frankly, the real leader of Nights.
I loved this show (except for two episodes in the middle, which made no sense). It was funny and entertaining. Nakajima Kento did a fabulous job, except for a brief, miniscule moment at the end when he broke character.
Other Johnny's in the show were Shimekake Ryuya (Travis Japan) and - wait, the others who appeared are ex-Johnny's...and awesome. BEAST featured Morita Myuto and Morohoshi Shoki while Nights had Yasui Kentaro and Hagiya Keigo. These ex-Johnny's are now in a group with three other ex-Johnny's called 7ORDER. Check out 7ORDER project here. Going back to Shimekake, he did such a good job being a creep that I took at least two months before I stopped thinking the word "turd" when I saw him as himself in concerts and variety shows.
Following the TV series was the Bad Boys J movie. The movie had the addition of Shigeoka Daiki from Johnny's WEST.
Who is the number one of Hiroshima? Watch and find out [Spoiler!](or not - because I don't think even the writers had a clue).
