Spring 2021 Dramas (and Anime) Update

Jul 21, 2021 17:38

Not that it matters, but here are my thoughts (or feelings) on some of the spring dramas and anime I've finished.

Mostly spoiler free thoughts on spring '21 dramas and anime.

I will warn you I'm still using the word "cute" a lot, and now the words "adorable" and "adorbs" as well.

Dramas
Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi - Obviously, (based on posts here and here) I loved this drama (and its theme song). The apartment occupants were great characters. Their interactions and relationships were developed nicely. The reveals of backstories was done well. The only thing that bothered me was when Karino's ex-girlfriend showed up. To delve deeper into that, I just felt the conflict they had her bring in the last two episodes was a bit rushed. I felt unnecessary stress LOL.

Tantei☆Hoshikamo - Very cute (my favorite review word!) drama. The "[insert character type here] with a quirk" gimmick is way overused, but I didn't mind it. Also, excellent theme song!

One More - I liked this drama a lot. The one thing that upset me were the high school students from the day. They were quite annoying and very odd for being that obsessed with the night school. To quote Veronica from the movie Billy Madison: "Making fun of a little kid trying to read! Are you psycho? Do you not have a soul?" In this case "little kid" is "old man", but the sentiment is the same. I get it for the Kazama Sho storyline, and his crush was the best out of the bunch, but, ugh, they were awful. A.B.C-Z did a great job!

Rom-com no Okite - I'm only half-way through this one, but I thought I'd just put a note here that it is a really adorbs drama and I'm a bit obsessed with Koseki Yuta (especially since he was in Shitteru Wife too). Now, when I use the word "obsessed" I'm not, like, at all, but I will check out a few other things he's been in.

Anime
Dragon Goes House-Hunting - This was a fun series. Letty was adorable as the titular dragon. I liked Dearia too. I liked learning more about Dearia's past and the first dragon he helped find a home. It was interesting to meet Nell close to the end of the series considering she is on the posters LOL.

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent - My second favorite anime of the season. Sei and Albert were just killing me with how adorable they were together.

MARS RED - Loved the animation. It had a bittersweet ending, but overall it was entertaining and I loved it.

SHADOWS HOUSE - I hope there's a second season. This is one of those anime where the lack of definite ending is a bummer.

Koikimo - My favorite of the season. I'm checking out the manga now. I loved the Christmas episode when Ryo gave Ichika her present (see pics).

Check out manga version here and here.
I was kind of creeped out when I read the synopsis (though, the title then fits perfectly LOL, 'cause, duh, it's supposed to), but right when I watched the first episode I knew it would be fine as long as it ended correctly and it did (see pics - spoiler alert).

So, yeah, loved it.

Backflip!! - I really loved this. I love watching gymnastics - rhythmic or artistic, it doesn't matter. I liked the characters. Everyone had such beautiful eyelashes LOL. I liked the episode where we learned more about their coach. I want another season.

Farewell, My Dear Cramer - I watched this because of the name (not going to go into details). Pretty standard sports anime. I still have the movie to watch. I liked the voice actors. As with Backflip!! I enjoyed the episode where we learned more about their coach, Fukatsu Gōro.

Burning Kabaddi - I feel like I knew what kabaddi was before I watched this, but it was nice to learn more about it. Ban Nobutaka was totally my favorite character, but there wasn't nearly enough of him. He was too adorable. I would watch more if they were to make more.

Those Snow White Notes - Like MARS RED I loved the animation. Awesome shamisen! I hope there's another season of this. It ended with the main character doing a huge 180. I kind of thought, "I hope he's going to be okay" LOL. I've watched this one twice - had to watch it with my sister. She loves the shamisen too.

Fairy Ranmaru - What did I just watch? That's the first thing I thought when I watched the first episode. This was my first magical boy anime (and I think it's to be taken seriously? - not parody?). I feel like it was a pretty crazy anime, but upon reflection, some of the episodes got a message across that I dwelled on. Make of that review what you will.

Osamake: Romcom Where the Childhood Friend Won't Lose - I think as far as harem animes go ('cause this was basically a harem anime), they tried to make Sueharu desirable by making him a former child actor and each girl who wanted him knew him from childhood (again, hence the title). I kind of felt like I was watching Doctor Who with this show and I'll explain. When an episode of Doctor Who starts I always feel like I've missed something - that I'm just thrown into a plot. Each episode of this kind of felt like that too. I felt like I'd missed something inbetween episodes. I felt like I missed something the moment I started the anime. It was completely unnecessary for all of Kuroha's little sisters to have a crush on Sueharu too, though that clinched it as a harem anime IMO.

Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway - This one's plot was similar to Koikimo, but had some dicey scenes. The main characters were likeable.

I'll probably write a completely unnecessary entry about some of the old anime I've been watching lately next. I've watched some good ones.
