Sweeney Todd

So I went and saw the 8:10 showing of Sweeney Todd with Bree and Lyn tonight. I'm keeping my reactions cut because of spoilers...

So yeah I tried to take it seriously. I really did. But Lyn and Bree kept laughing through the whole thing... Yeah it was kinda funny...

I couldn't take that freaking sailor boy seriously at all (Anthony). In one of the shots where he was in the background he seriously looked like Kira Nightly... Alan Rickman made me bust out laughing with his singing (because I mean... it's fucking Alan Rickman... singing... about "Pretty Women"...).

The movie had Kill Bill worthy blood splatter. Some very funny song lyrics. And really good chemistry between Johnny Depp (Todd) and Helena Bonham Carter (Mrs. Lovett). Those two together are really brilliant. The movie was hilarious in that "so bad it's good kind of way". But that's not to say the movie itself if horrible, it's just that because it's a gusical (gruesome musical) and a self described tragicomedy, you will laugh at the outlandishness of some numbers. For example Todd singing about how he will probably never see his daughter again (very emotional lyrics) while slashing throats and making some serious bloody splatter. So yes, it's great. Absolutely. And also absolutely hilarious.

Speaking as a photographer the lighting, color filter choice, and arrangement of the scenes (and the actors in them) were spectacular with true Tim Burton flare. I especially appreciate the final shot where Todd is bleeding out all over his wife while cradling her dead corpse. Also, the costumes were wonderful. Love them all. Especially Mrs. Lovett's dresses. Helena you are indeed the shiz and I would love just talk with you about your work.

Shit... now I'm craving some meat pies... But not people pies... Excuse me...

Ok, I'm back. We didn't have meat pies but this lasagna will do... Freaking A-! I love this movie. I'm definately buying it and the soundtrack A.S.A.P.!
