So tonight was the first Friday block writing for
chaos_thon to be honest I didn't get much done just a couple of snippets but it was a start, I guess I'm just trying to work out how the characters sound and how they interact. Anyway here they are if anyone's interested.
Link to show Bible Snippet One - The Grahams
Ben Graham was late. There was no one else on the streets and he could hear his footsteps echoing around him. Curfew had begun ten minutes ago and if he ran into any Angels he was going to be in trouble. Still it would be worth getting caught by the Angels if it meant he could avoid the trouble he was in with his sister. Irene was going to kill him when he got home.
As he walked past the huge Angel mural that meant he was nearly home he felt a shiver run through him. He had always hated that stupid mural. There was something ominous about those eyes and he never could tell if the artist thought the fact the angels are watching was a good thing or a bad thing. He knew it would be a bad thing if it were really true.
When he got through the door Irene had the harassed look that told him he was in for it. She had obviously been pacing while she was waiting. Their neighbour, Mira was sitting on the sofa watching her and she gave him a weak smile when she saw him. Irene turned then and he saw a look of relief spread across her face quickly replaced by anger.
“Where the hell have you been?” Irene demanded.
“Out,” he told her and wanted to kick himself straight away. It wasn’t as if she didn’t have a right to be worried.
“Don’t get smart with me,” she said. “I thought,” she paused, “it doesn’t matter what I thought, what the hell were you thinking?”
“Well I was thinking that missing curfew and getting picked up by an Angel company would be the perfect end to the perfect day.”
Irene rolled her eyes. “Seriously Ben, we can’t make mistakes like this. We do not need to be drawing attention to ourselves, particularly not now.”
“I know. Okay Ren,” the use of her nickname was a pretty blatant calming strategy, “I know. It wasn’t even my fault.”
“Is it ever your fault?” Mira asked with a smile.
“Oh not you too, you’re supposed to be on my side.”
Irene laughed, “I’m pretty sure that she’s meant to be on my side.”
Ben relaxed knowing that Irene’s anger had mostly dissipated. “So what’s been going on here?”
“Nice try,” Irene said, “you’re not off the hook yet. And don’t think that I won’t be telling Gran.”
Ben snorted, “Doubt she’d even hear you at this stage.”
“Hey, that’s not fair,” Mira interjected, “she’s at an extremely delicate stage of her work. If she doesn’t get her math right they could end up in the Middle Ages.”
“It’s not like they wouldn’t fit in there,” Irene said.
Ben had to agree with his sister. He had met the two resistance members who were going to be his grandmother’s guinea pigs the night before and was pretty sure they’d fit in during the Jurassic period if they ended up back there.
Snippet Two - The Angels
India Company had pulled checkpoint duty again and Morrigan was not impressed.
“This is ridiculous,” she snapped, “We lost two of our own last night and we get stuck document checking. We should be out there finding the son of bitches that murdered Hectic and Cobbler.”
“There are teams working on that you know,” Tower said.
“Yeah but none of them are us,” Morrigan replied.
“Your confidence in us is inspiring,” Blazer said.
“And there are worse details we could have pulled,” Tower said conciliatorily.
“Yeah like babysitting,” Blazer said, “Could you imagine? I’d rather pull a month of sewer reconnaissance.”
“I wouldn’t let One Shot hear you saying that,” Tower told her.
“Why’s that?” Blazer asked.
“Boy’s being drinking the Kool Aid,” Morrigan answered for him.
“Huh,” Blazer made her confused face.
“He thinks they’re friends,” Tower explained.
“Shouldn’t we report that?” Blazer asked.
“If I had to report it every time one of you did something stupid I’d spend my whole life writing reports,” Morrigan told her.
Snippet 3
Matt took one of his guns from the table and handed it to Ben. Irene glared at him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she demanded.
“Your brother wants to learn how to shoot. I’m going to teach him.”
“No you’re not. He’s just a kid,” Irene said.
“He looks like a grown man to me,” Matt replied.
Irene turned her glare on Ben who just shrugged and followed Matt out of the room.
