The Great BU Blackout part II, and, of course, shoes!

Apr 18, 2007 21:41

So, as a follow-up to my angsty rant about having to be at school during the blackout, I will now list the most amusing parts of a day without power, because nothing seems as bad in hindsight as it did when you were cold and without an internet connection.

Finding ways to entertain ourselves: My friends and I spent all morning playing crazy 8s and calling the BU snow cancellation hotline to see whether or not classes had been cancelled. Of course, it's pretty hard for them to update the hotline when there's NO POWER! It was still better than work, though.

No emergency lights in the bathroom: There are generators that light up key areas of hallways and stairwells, but no one thought to extend these areas to the bathroom. I had the singular experience of trying to pee by the light of my cellphone. Two of my female coworkers tried to do the same thing, and I feel like the experience has brought us closer together.

The awkwardness of BU faculty and staff when they have no work to do: They were all just milling about in the hallway talking about the weather and then sitting in uncomfortable silence. Chemists are not exactly known for their social graces. I stood around with them for a while, but I had to make an escape before I blurted out "so... how about that local sports team"?

Good times... well except during the part where I was actually living them.

Also, since sorcressgrey did it, and then told me to "Do it!" three time is short succession, I will now blog about things I bought in the style of Things I've Bought That I Love

I recently bought three pairs of completely unnecessary shoes, and I thought that maybe showing them to you will ease the pain of not being able to wear them because it is back to being WINTER outside.

My name is Megan, and I am a Target-aholic. Whenever I go there, I end up seeing things that I completely don't need, but really, really want! On my last trip I gave in and bought these cute tan loafers. On the few days that I actually got to wear them before it started to SNOW again, they were quite comfy. I feel like they look all sophisticated with jeans. Or at least a little more so than my normal Converse sneakers. Plus I don't have any other brown shoes, so I totally needed them! Right?

Target, $30

I got these cute little things while I was visiting Rae in Cambridge. They looked so girly and springy that I couldn't resist. They're nice because they don't have that feeling that they're going to rub the back of your heel raw. Rae has the same ones in two different colors, and she says they're very comfortable (though without any arch support, obviously). I so want to wear these with my cute white eyelet dress that I bought for graduation but STILL haven't worn! Damn you cold weather!

Payless, $15

Since when did Keds go from ugly white tennis shoes to such cute little things? I had been coveting these on Zappos for a while, but I couldn't justify what, to a poor student like me, seemed like a lot of money on yet another pair of new shoes. But THEN I went to the Burlington Coat Factory outlet in our mall, and what did I see, but my coveted shoes for a mere $15! I snapped up the last pair of 10s, which was in the brown color, though the navy is cute too. My only complaint is that my foot sinks down really far, but I guess I can just buy one of those cushiony inserts and they will be right as rain.

Zappos.com, $46 (or $15 if you are a lucky as me!)

Seriously, though... no more shoes!

oh my crazy life!, stuff i bought
