So HIMYM has drawn to a close...
5 stages of grief the HIMYM series finale:
1.) Denial: Maybe this was just one huge April Fools Joke
2.) Anger: You know how in Madoka Magica you gradually got mad at Kyubei as the series progressed? Yeah that was how I felt about the show as I continued to watch this episode.
3.) Bargaining: Well at least this whole season was good, and the previous episode could stand as the last one. I guess.
- It's all because they shot the ending thinking they wouldn't get a renewal back in season 1 and they didn't account for all the character development they would have. Thus they were struggling to fit everything with that obsolete ending. Plus the mother having to accept Max's death and move on is a parallel to Ted accepting her death. Or something.
-It just hurts because all of season 9 was extending 3 mere days of a relationship (before a wedding no less) so it was all the highs of love while they had to quickly remind us of the cold harshness of reality through 15 years in about an hour.
4.) Depression: Everything that happened in this episode just shows that change/maturity/hope is all futile because we're just going to fall back on bad habits. True love just isn't for everyone, apparently. Ideal fairy tale happy endings can be fake.
5.) Acceptance: ...
...
...Retcon all the things. All of it.
Robin is actually Maria Hill and the whole marriage was a risk anyway because of her job and the whole divorce was to protect Barney?
Sure.
Barney and Robin find the whole divorce life even more sexy than marriage life (aka Dr. Cox and Jordan ala Scrubs) because the last thing they want to be is predictable.
Kk
Ted's kids are idiots.
Yeah.
The whole ending is just the beginning of the entire series again, repeating all the ups and downs with no changing solution?
Totally.
It's just super powerful denial that Barney is dead.
Hey that theory made more sense than this crap.
I know series finales for shows you love aren't exactly happy happy times, even when the finale is actually planned rather than a show getting cancelled and all, but man, it is really something when a finale makes you so *angry* because its basically going against literally everything the show was. That is really something.
