I'm so conflicted about Bedard possibly returning to Baltimore. I've been holding off on writing about it because I don't want to get emotional, and because when Roch first reported it, it didn't seem to me that the O's knew how long he would be out ... and from what Roch wrote this past weekend, I was right. I don't see how he fits into their plans. But the news about his rehab going well is indeed exciting. I would think that what they mean is going on a rehab assignment as he is supposed to begin a throwing program in February. I do wish, though, that he would be more conservative and take the full year to come back. The further removed he is from the injury, the better the chances to returning to form.

I see the wisdom of what you are saying even though I'd really like Bedard to come back to Baltimore and pitch this year. The only thing I can say about it is that Andy MacPhail is the definition of practical and the team doctors have spent many hours studying Bedard's records. If Andy didn't objectively think pitching by mid-season was realistic, he wouldn't delude himself into it.
