I see the Orioles' ineptitude has outlived Dave Trembley

I think it's probably a good thing that I can't watch the game. MLB.tv is blacked out for me as they're playing the Sox.

No kidding. I went to bed early, which is why I'm able to write this at 7:29 AM.

It'll take time to get them turned in the right direction. Obviously this year is toast but I'm not giving up that the young'uns will at least start playing to their potential. *nods*

As long as they sweep the Yankees for the rest of the year, I'll be happy. That's all I want.

As a Dave Trembley apologist, I don't wee what this move was supposed to accomplish except to placate the fans who still think wins and ERA are the best stats by which to judge a pitcher. Yes, Dave's done some bone-headed things, but no more than the average manager, and if the O's could score some damn runs no one would be calling for his head. But he can't make players start hitting for power, or start throwing strikes, or get off the DL faster. He can't snap his fingers and make this team average. And neither can Juan Samuel, whom I think will prove less qualified.

Also, given how deliberate Andy MacPhail is, I'm surprised he was willing to do this mid-season. He didn't even wait until the All-Star Break.

Oh, I agree that Trembley's firing was only to make it look like they were doing something to turn things around, and that it's gonna take a miracle to get these guys to do better anytime soon. I just think that the young prospects (Wieters et al.) aren't an illusion (like half of Camden Chat does now) and will eventually fulfill their potential, whether it be near the end of this season or next season.

I also agree that Trembley was certainly not as bad as people made him out to be, and was the victim of bad circumstances as well as terrible playing from the team. Hopefully he'll get another chance with a better situation to show what he can do?

FIRE JUAN SAMUEL!

There is just so much a manager can do with what he is given and I truly believe Trembley did the the best he could with what he had. But as the say, it is easier to fire one guy than twenty-five. That does lead me to think, though, that if a manager/coach is that influential in the performance of the players, why is it that Trembley lost his job when Crowley and even Kranitz still have theirs?

I like Trembley and I hope he can find another job in baseball somewhere.

I do like Trembley, too. And though he had his share of bone-headed moves, I think he's a lot better prepared to manage a team than Samuel. Though given the team is 16-41, I doubt MacPhail expects anything from Samuel beyond filling out the line-up card with a different player at each position.
