“Not bad” hovered above “not good” when it came to describing the excellence of a particular thing. Perhaps it was because two negatives made a positive. Meanwhile, a positive ended up cancelled by a negative. That’s how integers worked. Two wrongs make a right? A right and a wrong make a wrong? Math lacked morality. Why else would it cause so many headaches? To say he was “not bad” would be an outright lie. And “not good?” She wasn’t entirely sure despite the opinions of those closest to her. He at least gave her less headaches than doing accounting did.
