theatrical_muse prompt - memorable Christmas kiss

It was weird really that Torchwood One even had a Christmas party, there were more important things surely, like protecting the United Kingdom from aliens and as had already been proved they weren’t exactly ones for taking the festive season off. Still here they were, in the basement of Canary Wharf celebrating Christmas like any other company, with cheap wine, dodgy music and drunken co-workers all on the look out for a holiday snog. Ianto had to wonder why he’d even agreed to come, it wasn’t as if anyone would have missed him after all. That was perfectly clear as he stood against the wall and watched everyone else making a fool of themselves and sipped the wine that tasted like vinegar, still anything that made him feel a little less awkward had to be a good thing didn’t it?

Oh god she’s coming over, she’s actually coming over! He thought to himself, taking a larger drink of the wine in the hope of calming himself a little. Is that mistletoe? He couldn’t quite believe it. Lisa Hallet was on her way over to him with a sprig of mistletoe in her hand and a wicked glint in her eye, he’d fancied her ever since he started here but she was so outgoing and bubbly and Ianto, well Ianto’s sort of stuffy, that’s what people seemed to think at least. It wasn’t true he’s just professional when he’s at work and that extends to interoffice relationships, not that he ever expected her to be interested in him in the first place, but there she was, ignoring all the other men here and walking over to him.

“Merry Christmas, Ianto,” she said, leaning into him as she raised the mistletoe above their heads, speaking close to his ear so that he could hear her over the music.

“Merry Christmas, Lisa,” he replied politely, suddenly aware of just how tight his tie felt around his neck as she pressed her lips his softly.

“I’ve been wanting to do that for ages,” she informed him as she pulled away still smiling.

He opened his mouth to speak but found he didn’t quite have the words. “Would you like to dance, Lisa?” He asked after a few moments in which he processed what had just happened.

Grinning she took hold of the end of his tie and pulled him gently towards the dance floor. “I thought you’d never ask,” she replied turning back to look at him.
