One of the things that surprised Sam when he published 302 was that very few freshman writers got to choose what their book would look like when it hit the shelves. If he had been given a choice he wouldn’t have picked a cover that looked quite so eerie or spooky because he didn’t want people to get the wrong idea and think it was a horror story. He would have chosen something a little more subdued and definitely wouldn’t have had a huge glossy roach on the cover.
For his sophomore offering Sam had complete creative control since the publishers were willing to cave to his every demand. If he had asked he assumed they would have gladly wiped his ass to keep him happy. He went over every detail of American Normality and as a result it was a completely perfect book from cover to cover. The artwork was exactly what he wanted and the font was just perfect. The chapters were numbered the way he demanded they be and even the page numbers were centered and in bold.
The exact same thing happened once he submitted Strength for publication. They let him design to his heart’s content to make the book look the way he wanted it to. The sad truth of being an author was that ninety percent of the time the cover sold the book. Most casual readers, new readers especially skimmed the synopsis but they paid very close attention to the cover art. No one should have judged a book by it’s cover, but they did.
Another rather significant difference between 302 and his second and third book was the title and his name. On it’s first printing the title took up half the cover and John Michaels was towards the bottom rather small and insignificant. It sold out almost immediately and a second cover was printed with Sam’s pseudonym a little bigger. By the time Strength was release his name took up half the cover and the title was smaller and towards the bottom. The more popular you became in the publishing world, the more important and powerful your name was.
So Sam had prepared himself for taking a step back from how far he had come since he was once again a new writer. He figured the title of his latest book would be rather small and his brand new pseudonym would be barely recognizable. He also had no idea what the book even looked like. Publication was rushed so he didn’t even have a copy at home. With his other books they all came weeks before the release date in a big cardboard box, but Supernatural was going to be different for more than the obvious.
When they went to the bookstore Dean was rather fondly remembering their very first trip to buy 302 right before Thanksgiving. He wanted to buy himself a copy and never got the chance because it was sold out as soon as the store opened. Mikey had been with them all bundled up and warm and it was officially Ollie’s turn. He was bundled up too, although it wasn’t as cold as it was when they went with Mikey that first time.
When Sam’s other two books came out they didn’t have the pleasure of going to buy them with anonymity because he had to do readings and signings. With Supernatural they could stroll right into the store and just be two guys out with their adorable baby who had on a pumpkin hat because it was Halloween.
Sam had a plan for the day and it involved getting the book and then heading over to the auditorium where they were setting up the auction for the center. He thought they should at least show their faces since they were the boss’ bosses. He didn’t want to stay long, mostly because he still had to pack for their trip. He wanted a quick in and out just to say hello and make sure things were going okay.
Carol and Michael had left at dawn and then Anthony left right after that. They were all very busy because each year the auction grew. At first it was just something fairly casual, but the more Carol worked on it the bigger it became. Anthony didn’t really do much work at the center but when it time came for the auction he happily volunteered. Even John was busy driving around town and picking up a few last minute donations and as soon as they had the book in their hands they were going to at least lend a little moral support.
All Sam wanted to do was get a cup of overpriced coffee and the muffin he had promised Dean and Ollie before he went to find the book under the new releases and got out of there. He loved bookstores, but there wasn’t a more dangerous place for a writer to be. Dean had equated it with a musician strolling into a music store because you were certain to be accosted by fans. Maybe a few writers could get away with it but Sam was the most successful and well known writer in the world and getting in and out of a bookstore quickly never really happened for him.
Invariably someone would spot him and then rush over with copies of his books and a smile on their face. They’d tell him all about how they had well read copies at home but they couldn’t resist an autographed copy because they loved him so much. Since Sam was a bit of a sucker for his fans he almost always signed and then had to listen to their life story and pretend to be interested.
“Holy shit.” Dean said as soon as they stepped inside.
“What?”
“Uh.” Dean pointed. “Is that the book we’re looking for?”
“Lookin’ for shit!” Ollie yelled. “Shit! Shit!”
“Shh.”
“Shit.” Ollie whispered.
Sam was busy fumbling with the buttons on his new coat when they walked in, but as he looked up he got to see that perhaps Supernatural wasn’t going to be that different from the rest of his books. Not fifteen feet from the entrance there was a huge four by eight foot poster hanging from the ceiling. He didn’t like the cover of 302, but he fucking loved the cover of Supernatural.
He had written about the Impala at length and it ended up right on the cover shown from the back rolling down a long dusty back road. The title was pretty big, at least as big as the first printing of 302, but his new name was just as big for the whole world to see.
In front of the poster there was a huge round table with hundreds of books stacked up on it. Seeing the cover was one thing, but Sam felt like yelling when he saw the actual book. He rushed towards it and actually strained to pick the massive tome up. It came in at just under eight hundred perfect pages and looked extremely intimidating and very impressive.
As he glanced around the bookstore he was pleased that several people were already holding their copies and more than one seemed to be in a trance as they walked and tried to support the massive book they were reading. That was the exact moment he knew that he had another bestseller on his hands and would most likely be getting a call from Larry about the movie rights to his latest masterpiece.
“This book is gigantic.” Dean whispered. “Jesus.”
“Do you like the cover?”
“Yeah, it’s cool.” Dean laughed. “Really cool. Wow, I wasn’t expecting this. It’s bigger than American Normality.”
“Do you think they made such a big deal out of it because it’s Halloween?”
“Let’s pretend that’s the reason.” Dean whispered. “Beanie B, this is daddy’s book, don’t tell anyone or no more belly.”
“’Kay.”
“Man, we should try putting this one on his head, he’ll never grow another inch. You okay Sammy?”
“I’m a little shocked.”
“Good shock or run the hell out of here and crawl back into bed?”
“Good.” Sam laughed. “I had no idea it would be so big.”
“Aw, sounds like our first date.”
“It looks really good.”
“Sounds like our second date.” Dean grinned.
“I can barely hold on to it.”
“Now you sound like me on our first date. I used to date daddy before we started dating, Ollie.”
“I know.”
“Who’s a pumpkin head?”
“Me.” Ollie giggled. “Beans.”
“Gah, you’re killing me with this.” Dean said as he poked his stomach. “Okay, we need about ten copies, you take Ollie and I’ll…”
“Whoa.” Sam shook his head. “One copy.”
“We need to get copies for Anthony and Bruce, mom and dad, um, Alex and Michael…”
“How’s it going to look if I buy ten copies of this book?”
“The same way it looks when you buy ten bottles of detergent at the same time?” Dean laughed. “People can clearly see you have the OCD, just look at that scarf you’re wearing.”
Ollie laughed at Sam too and then reached out to pull him over by his scarf. He needed to get him close enough to kiss which was just fine with Sam. He really had no problem with their friends and family reading the book but he wasn’t about to buy ten copies and make anyone suspicious. If they wanted to read it they could but they’d have to buy their own copies.
Dean picked up his own copy and strained to carry it around the store. It probably wouldn’t have been so hard to do if he didn’t have the massive book under his right arm while he was holding on to Ollie with his left. Whenever the weather started to change his old bullet would got a little creaky and as much as he tried to ignore it he was a little stiff and winced more than once.
“Dean?”
“I’m okay.”
“Is your arm bothering you?” Sam asked.
“A little, here you take the baby.” Dean said. “Go by daddy, I’ll be right here.”
“I get a book for peeing.” Ollie said as Sam took him away from Dean. “About a duck.”
“Yes you do.” Sam nodded. “Dean, maybe you should go back to the doctor and see if they can do anything.”
“It’s fine Sammy, it’s just when the weather changes it gets a little stiff.”
Dean rotated his shoulder around a little until it started to loosen up. Normally it wasn’t that bad, but Ollie was getting bigger and heavier. It was staring to get a little rough to hold him as much as Dean liked to. It wasn’t something he had to go to the doctor for, but he did decide to maybe start the day with a few stretching exercises.
“You want a book first or a muffin, muffinhead?” Dean asked. “Your head is made out of muffins.”
“Muff.”
“Oh,” Sam laughed.
“He’s got no shame, Sammy.”
“He loves muff, I blame dad.” Sam said. “And Anthony, Bruce too.”
“We’ll get you a muffin and then we need to talk to you about big boy stuff.”
“Baby.” Ollie said. “Me.”
Dean was very tempted to buy him about forty muffins because it was time they told him that they were leaving at the end of the day and wouldn’t be back until Monday. The rest of the kids understood and were just fine with it because they’d get to spend a whole weekend with their grandpa which was like spending a weekend alone with Dean if he happened to have no self control. He’d let them do whatever they wanted regardless of what it was. That usually included cookies for breakfast and whenever the mood struck which made Ethan and Evan very happy. They also had big sleepovers on the floor in front of the television which Mikey loved because John was the best cuddler there was. Then there was Ollie who could spend a few hours sleeping at John’s house but most of the time he was very fidgety until he actually fell asleep and visions of SugarDeans danced in his head.
Dean had prepared himself to go two days without seeing the kids, but he was very nervous about leaving Ollie alone. Michael would be there and John and Carol were staying at the house. He’d be safe and taken care of but he probably was going to be pretty upset each day when he woke up and realized that John most certainly wasn’t Dean.
Once Sam got them each a muffin, some coffee, and a little bottle of juice, Dean picked Ollie up and sat him on the table right in front of them. His pumpkin hat was a little lopsided so he had to fix that first before he could break apart the muffin and feed it to him.
“So, uh.” Dean sighed. “These past two years have been incredible.”
“Yeah.” Ollie nodded.
“I want to make myself absolutely clear that this has nothing to do with you. It’s me, you’re great, you’re the best boyfriend a guy like me could want. If it wasn’t for you I’d probably go crazy and you know, I’m really into you. I think you’re very sexy.”
“You too.”
“Well thank you.” Dean laughed. “But the thing is, you know how I keep daddy around for when I get stressed?”
“Yeah.”
“Before the babies get here…”
“No!” Ollie yelled. “No, babies.”
“Listen.” Dean frowned. “I know you don’t like them and obviously I’ll never love them like I love you, but they’re coming and before they come I need to go out of town for a few days and work out a lot of stress on daddy.”
“With.” Sam whispered.
“All over daddy for a few hours and then I’ll be back.”
“You’re getting a little weird.” Sam muttered.
“Sammy, how would you feel if the only person you ever had a deep romantic love for was leaving for two days and everyone who kissed your belly did it wrong?”
“How about you and Ollie go on this romantic getaway?” Sam said. “You two can just go and cuddle all weekend and I’ll stay home with the kids.”
“Oh thank God.” Dean sighed. “I wanted to suggest that but then I was afraid you’d think I was weird since I’d rather spend a weekend cuddling him instead of destressing on your face.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not letting you do that for three weeks.”
“But then the babies will be here and we’ll never get to…”
“Okay, Ollie.” Sam smiled. “Tonight me and daddy are getting on a plane and going to Monroe, Louisiana for a romantic weekend. You need to do three sleeps and when you wake up he’ll be back. I’ll be with him but I guess you don’t care about that.”
“I love you, daddy.”
“You do?” Sam smiled.
“More than a moon.”
“Aww! He’s never said that to you before!”
“No he hasn’t!” Dean yelled. “You listen to me Mister.”
“Yah?”
“Are you two canoodling when I’m not around?”
“Yah.”
“Oh!” Dean said as he grabbed his chest. “What do you two do?”
“A toes and a belly.” Ollie laughed. “A belly a lot.”
Sam looked around the little café inside the bookstore and they were mostly alone so he stood right up and pulled up his shirt. As soon as his stomach was exposed Ollie kissed all over it and left a strawberry splotch from his muffin right in the middle of it.
“He got a funny belly!”
“I think we should see other people.”
“No.” Ollie shook his head. “Calm down.”
“Did he just tell me to calm down?”
“I think he did.” Sam laughed. “Ollie, he’s under the impression I let him take your brothers to school because I’m lazy, but what do we do as soon as he leaves.”
“Make out with toes.” Ollie said as he kicked out his foot. “Kiss on a belly”
“And?” Sam winked.
“Make a video.”
“Oh!” Dean said as he got up to pace. “Is he better than me?”
“No.” Ollie shook his head. “No, daddy.”
“Well thank God for…”
“Yes.” Ollie whispered to Sam. “Shh.”
Ollie was really coming into his own since he no longer had to compete with the rest of the kids. He had just a few months alone while they were at school and he decided to use that time to wrap both of his daddies around his pudgy little finger. Sam never actually made any belly kissing videos with him, but it did give him a pretty good idea about how to make the time apart a little less unbearable for Ollie. He wasn’t worried about Dean, because as soon as they got to Auden’s house Sam was going to make damn sure he didn’t have the time or energy to think about anything but the two of them.
“Hey uh.” Sam said as he covered Ollie’s ears. “How about we go home and I’ll film you while you…”
“I told you it’s no fun alone. I mean yeah I like to watch myself to judge distance and volume, but…”
“Dean.” Sam laughed. “I’ll film you talking to the camera and if he gets upset dad can put it on for him.”
“Sammy, that’s a good idea. If he sees me he won’t be tempted to cheat on me with dad.”
“Yep.”
“And I won’t worry about him so much and I can devote all my attention to cheating on him with you.”
“Mmhmm.”
“Let’s do that. I wanna make sure the camera is all charged up for our trip.”
“All over his house?” Sam grinned.
“And then we leave the tape, come on.”
Once they got Ollie every kid’s book they could find about ducks they checked out and headed straight to the auction. Ollie had gotten it into his head that he was sort of into ducks and when they asked what kind of present he wanted for doing so good with his potty training he requested a book about ducks which was just what he got. Dean was a little concerned about John handling the potty training while they were gone, but he seemed to understand that he was going to have to drop his pants and go a few times before Ollie would even consider it. Dean had probably done it a hundred times already since Ollie didn’t seem to understand that they technically didn’t have to do it first.
Everything was right on track for the auction. Michael and Derek were working together on setting up the candy stations and putting up a few spooky decorations. Carol was very busy putting out all the auction items and making sure everything was where it was supposed to be. There were a handful of other volunteers and employees blowing up balloons and hanging posters and it all looked great. The only thing missing was Anthony who was nowhere to be found.
“Where’s Anthony?” Sam asked.
“I think he’s sick.” Michael frowned. “Tummy ache maybe, been in the bathroom for a while.”
“Oh, no.” Dean said. “Let’s make sure he’s okay before we go home.”
“Yeah, good job everybody, it looks great!”
They waved at everyone and then walked into the bathroom to see if Anthony wanted to go home or if they needed to stop and pick him up some medicine or something. They checked the bathroom near the entrance first but it was empty. They found him in the second bathroom near the back locked in the handicapped stall.
Normally they would have respected his privacy but he had obviously gotten over his sickness. The toilet was to the left of the large stall and the sink was to the right. Dean remembered that when he took the kids in there to pee last year. Anthony’s feet were dangling from the sink and he hadn’t heard anyone enter so he made no effort to hide what he was doing.
“Anthony?” Sam said.
“Sam?”
“You okay, honey?” Sam asked. “Michael said you were sick.”
“Oh yeah.” Anthony coughed. “Uh, I have like sonic diarrhea.”
“In the sink?” Dean asked as he pulled out his credit card.
“No, I’m on the toilet. I’m so embarrassed.”
“Mmhmm.” Dean nodded. “Do you need anything?”
“A little privacy would be nice. Oh man, I think I crapped out a lung.”
Dean rolled his eyes and used the tip of his credit card to flip open the latch. They caught Anthony red handed sitting on the sink with Supernatural in his hands. He had already gotten through a fairly decent chunk and made no effort to stop when they walked into the stall.
“Watcha’ readin’?” Dean asked.
“It’s called the incredibly true adventures of gay Buffys.”
“Mmhmm.” Sam sighed. “What do you think?”
“Um, it’s so scary I might actually have sonic diarrhea. You took a lot of creative liberties, right?”
“Not a one.”
“I’m so sure.” Anthony laughed. “Like this stuff is…real. Oh God.”
“Yeah.” Dean laughed. “Good book for Halloween.”
“Which chapter is the last one before you stopped?”
“Dead in the water.”
“Ah, I’m still in the prologue.” Anthony smiled. “Only you could write two hundred pages before the story actually starts. I should probably be helping though.”
“Nothing wrong with a break.”
“Yeah, um, I’m gonna kind of need Bruce to hold my hand if I’m going to finish reading this. Little too spooky for me.”
“Hi, Anfony.”
“Hello Ollie.” Anthony smiled. “That hat is fierce.”
“I know.”
“Are you excited about Halloween?”
“I’m a punkin.” Ollie nodded.
“You and Bruce decide on a costume?” Dean asked.
“We sure did.”
“Wanna tell us what it is?” Sam asked.
“Nope. Congratulations on the book Mr. Colt.”
“Thank you.” Sam smiled.
“Come on Robert.” Dean said. “We’ve got movies to make.”
When they first sat the kids down to ask what they wanted to be for Halloween, none of them knew right away. Mikey wanted to give it serious consideration and talk it over with John and Ethan and Evan had to come to a decision that would make both of them happy. Ollie just pulled off his shirt at which point Dean reminded him no son of his was leaving the house lookin’ like a hoochie. Michael didn’t even know what he wanted to be but then he fell in love with Alex and they decided together.
After about a week of discussions with John, Mikey decided that he was going to be a cat doctor and requested scrubs and perhaps a stuffed cat with a thermometer in it’s butt. Dean looked everywhere and couldn’t find kid sized scrubs or a doctor costume so he headed to Carol’s store and yelled at people until they found him a pattern. He tried to sew it himself, but eventually Carol stepped in and told him that stop torturing the fabric. Dean’s contribution to the costume was a stuffed cat that he impaled with a pair of scissors then stuck in the thermometer with the aid of his trusty glue gun. Mikey had everything he needed and looked very professional and just a little funny.
At first Evan was dead set on being a ninja while Ethan demanded they make him a penis costume. Dean was actually considering it when they remembered that the world would end if they weren’t dressed exactly the same. Evan refused to be a penis because he was pretty sure that’s what Anthony was going to be since more than once he had heard Dean call him that. Ethan in turn refused to be a ninja because it wasn’t nearly cool enough.
After a little gentle encouragement they decided to be rock stars which made Dean very happy since Evan sort of mentioned he was maybe thinking about dressing up as a ballerina. They were thrilled with the idea of being rock stars, especially when Dean doused their heads with gel and then pushed their hair into very intimidating Mohawks. They sort of had little faux-hawks already but for Halloween he let them go all out. Sam then had to add his own touch and expertly applied black eyeliner as soon as Dean’s back was turned which Evan really liked because it made him look pretty.
Every time they asked Ollie he just kept saying that he wanted to be a belly or showing them his belly. As his future husband Dean had to made an executive decision to dress him as a pumpkin which he was just fine with once he saw how extra adorable he looked in his stuffed orange suit.
With the kids ready to go they had to get themselves dressed, which was very quick and very easy. Sam did their hair while Dean rolled their jeans and by the time they were done, they were a set of matching Zuko’s that were sure to infuriate Anthony. Of course he was a complete bitch and showed up with Bruce dressed as the king Sam from Dean’s books. Bruce was dressed as Dean and had apparently searched high and low for a pair of shoes that would give him a little extra height.
Anthony was laughing about how much more amazing his costume was when John showed up staggering with Carol at his side. Anthony promptly shot his load and then collapsed into Bruce’s arms. Normally Bruce probably would have made sure he was okay but he chose to push Anthony into Sam and make sure he looked nice for his step-father who had taken his role at the world’s most poundable pappy to the extreme.
Not only did he have on cowboy boots with spurs, but he had a pair of worn leather chaps over his jeans. His huge Texas belt buckle was shining right above the promised land and his plaid shirt was left mostly unbuttoned around his chest making even Dean a little uncomfortable. Anthony was still a little twitchy while Sam fanned him and John just grinned with a piece of hay hanging out the side of his mouth. He even had on a hat which was just adding insult to injury.
Carol was dressed like a cowgirl, but no one was really paying attention to her, not when they could gaze at that magnificent rough tough son of a bitch in all his cowboy glory.
“Do I walk into the light?” Anthony asked. “I mean that’s what you’re supposed to do, right?”
“Dad, uh.” Sam coughed. “You wanna do somethin’?”
“Giddy up.” John whispered to Anthony. “Yee-haw.”
“Oh Jesus.” Anthony shuddered.
Dean was standing up and holding on to Ollie’s hand, but as soon as he spotted John he ran over to him and held on to his legs. Apparently there was always someone prettier at the party which was a lesson even John was about to learn the hard way. He had set out to be an incredibly sexy cowboy just to mess with Anthony, but someone else showed up that messed with all of them.
“You are ridiculous.” Dean said. “You look like a total….holy mother of God.”
“Yeah.” John nodded. “I’m the hottest guy in…”
“Oh God.” Sam said as he stood up and knocked Anthony to the floor. “Is that…”
Usually when Sam or Dean entered a room that would command the attention of everyone present. Michael had learned from the best and as he walked into the auction everyone got very quiet and just stared. John was a sexy cowboy, but he was a grandpa. Michael was the younger version with tighter jeans and a much bigger belt buckle. Sam caught Anthony staring and slapped him in the back of the head. Dean caught Sam staring and slapped him and then himself.
He pulled it off a hell of a lot better than John did probably because he already had the slow southern drawl and an honest to God saunter as he walked towards their table. His light beige plaid shirt was tucked into his pants and unlike John he didn’t have the little age pudgeyness in his stomach. He looked fantastic especially once he took off his hat and placed it on Ollie’s head who had very quickly forgotten all about his grandpa.
“Hey, Ya’ll.”
“Uh…” Sam said.
“Um…” Bruce coughed. “Uh…”
“Huh…” John muttered.
“Michael you look so handsome.” Mikey said. “Best cowboy I’ve ever seen.”
“Thank you!”
“What about me?” John asked.
“Second best.” Ethan told him.
“You’re almost as hot as me and Ethan.” Evan nodded. “Almost.”
“You wanna do somethin’?” Anthony asked. “When Bruce turns thirty we were thinking…”
“Hey!” Dean yelled.
He went over and spread his arms out in front of Michael so no one would be drooling over his son. They’d have to wait their turn until he was done. He looked fantastic and it wasn’t even a sexual thing. Mostly it was how confident he looked and how sure of himself he had become over the past few months. Any slut could throw on a cowboy suit, like John had done, but Michael had the goods to back it up. Not only did he look fantastic, but he seemed happier than ever.
“You are very handsome.”
“Thanks, dad.” Michael smiled. “I didn’t know grandpa was going to be a cowboy too.”
“You wanna do somethin’.” Dean whispered.
“I don’t think my boyfriend would approve of that.” Michael whispered back. “Or Ollie.”
“I don’t even see Alex.”
“He’s right there.” Michael pointed.
“Is he a cowboy too?” Sam asked. “I don’t see him.”
“There’s some idiot in a horse costume blocking the…Oh, my God.”
“Yeehaw.” Michael grinned.
“Why is he a horse?” John asked.
“How else is a cowboy gonna get around?”
When Alex walked over he removed the ridiculous horses head and grabbed a random drink off the table and downed it. He was covered in sweat and obviously a huge horse suit wasn’t the best idea. He looked like the mascot of a high school which was just about the funniest and most disturbing thing Dean had ever seen.
“It’s so hot in this thing.” Alex said before he looked over at Michael and licked his lips. “Goddamn.”
“Hey!” Dean yelled.
“You wanna do somethin’?” Alex whispered.
“I get it!” Mikey laughed. “He’s a cowboy and he needs to ride Mr. Watkins.”
“Ooh, I bet that’s fun.” Evan said. “Daddy?”
“Yes?” Sam said cautiously.
“I wanna be a horse next year.”
“I’ll be a cowboy.” Ethan nodded. “I’ll ride…”
“Happy Halloween!” Dean yelled as loud as he could. “Everyone gets lots of candy! Everyone gets candy!”
“Ichael, up.” Ollie said as he tugged on Michael’s pants. “Up by you.”
“Aw, baby brother, you wanna spend the whole weekend hangin’ out with me?”
“Yeah.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Michael said as he winked at Dean.
Dean wasn’t sure if Michael went all out on his costume just to get Ollie to flirt with him, but it seemed to do the trick because they were inseparable the whole night. If he did do it to make Ollie’s time a little easier while they were away then he deserved another raise and probably even a new car. Since Michael had arrived the kids felt like they needed to do another round of trick or treating which he happily took them on.
John went along with them so they could maybe get more to the idea of spending the whole weekend with him. It seemed like it was going to be just fine. Ollie could hang close with Michael and John would keep the rest of the kid’s occupied. Dean could have his romantic getaway with Sam and finally relax a little bit since he knew everything was taken care of.
Sam was pretty sure that if they were having a ridiculous costume contest then Alex would take first place, at least untilAuden and Amy arrived. He was dressed as Peter Pan with green tights and a feathered cap and she was his knocked up Tinkerbell, his very knocked up about to burst at the seams Tinkerbell.
As soon as Sam and Dean spotted them they both ran over to help Auden out. Amy had originally said she wasn’t going to make it because the trip into Connecticut was just too hard, but she had shown up and even managed to get a costume over her rather massive belly. They were fourteen days away and she was bigger than ever.
Sam pulled out a chair for her, but she rolled her eyes and looked at the space between the back of it and the table. He pulled it out another foot before she smiled and then sat down with a very loud groan and then a very unladylike fart.
“Perfect.”
“Wow.” Dean laughed. “Sexy.”
“Oh, like you never fart.”
“Sam yells at me when I do.”
“I think you’re beautiful.” Auden smiled.
“Really? Even with the stretch marks?”
“Yeah, I do.”
“I think you’re beautiful Dean.” Sam said
“Really? Even with the farting?”
“As long as it’s not in bed you fart as much as you want.”
“Make fun of us.” Auden sighed. “After I loaned you my wife and my house.”
“I’m sorry.” Dean said. “I must have been imagining when you blew a wad on my husband. Did that happen? Do you have to do whatever the hell I want for the rest of your life?”
“Whatever, listen, I called and had the power turned on and the water is back on, everything you need should be there.”
“Thanks.” Dean laughed.
“Will you get me something to drink?” Amy asked. “Like Sprite maybe? Something to eat.”
“I sure will.”
Even if he did masturbate on Sam, Auden was still a good guy. He was taking care of Amy and their babies in their absence. That alone was enough for Dean to not even really care what they had done together because as usual everything worked out eventually.
Before he left he kissed her head and rubbed her stomach for just a second. It was a shame they didn’t want to have kids of their own because they’d both be great at it. Amy was always a little nervous around the kids, but Auden was one of those guys born to be a dad.
“I am so miserable you guys.” Amy sighed. “My whole body hurts.”
“You didn’t have to come, we know it’s hard to get around.” Sam said.
“I wanted to, I’ve been stuck at home, it’s nice to get out, I’m just very tired and achey.”
“Almost over.” Dean whispered to her stomach. “Hey, guys, listen, pretty soon you’ll be out of that belly and in our arms. Sammy has really nice arms and mine aren’t so bad. You’ll have grandpa to hold you and your big brother Michael who I found myself a little attracted to today.”
“Dean!” Amy laughed. “Inappropriate.”
“I did too.” Sam whispered. “I need you babies to be big and strong when you’re born because we’re pretty sure you can be flower girls or ring bearers when your big brother and Mr. Watkins get married. Don’t kick mommy too much.”
“They’re not moving much anymore.”
“They’re not?” Sam asked. “Is that normal?”
“Yeah, very little room left in there to move around.” Amy laughed. “The doctor says he thinking they might come a little later.”
“Oh, I hope they don’t come to close to Ollie’s birthday.” Dean frowned. “Try to be turkey babies, not after turkey babies.”
“Are you guys ready?”
“Yeah.” Dean smiled while he rubbed his hand across her stomach. “We’re ready when you are. I can’t wait until you’re here. We love you, all of you.”
“We do.” Sam nodded as he wiped at his eyes. “Please be his little girl.”
As hard as they always tried they always ended up making themselves cry. It was inevitable and just something that they did as often as other people blinked. Dean was still rubbing his hand across Amy’s stomach when he blinked the tears away and stared over the bump to see Sam smiling back at him.
“We’ve got a plane to catch.”
“Yeah.” Sam smiled. “We do.”
Since it was the first time they were flying on the jet alone Sam figured they’d be in the air for about ten minutes before Dean tried to get in his pants. As it was they had just stepped aboard when Dean told the pilots without any shame or embarrassment that they were going to be making love. He didn’t say sex or fucking, he said they were going to make love which they were more than welcome to watch, but he would appreciate a little privacy.
Apparently it wasn’t all that uncommon because neither of the pilots seemed to have a problem with it. They just smiled, informed them how long the flight would take and then disappeared into the cockpit. Sam was horribly embarrassed but he quickly got over it when Dean tackled him to the floor of the plane and started to pull off his jeans.
Dean had flown enough that his old phobia was completely gone and he was not only able to handle the take off not strapped into his seat, but he did it while they had sex. It was an entirely new experience that was extremely exciting and just strange enough to be funny. Their heads were facing the back of the plane so they were pretty much moving together on the ground while the plane climbed making them fuck upside down.
During the climb Dean was going at it pretty roughly and a little erratically which Sam attributed to his nerves but as soon as they leveled out he slowed down and took his time. Finally joining the mile high club would have been with quick nasty sex in the bathroom for most people, but since they had the luxury of a private plane they could take their time and move around the cabin as much as they wanted to.
They started off on the floor and then migrated to the bench seats. Dean had Sam pinned against a window for about a half an hour and then they just kept moving. When it was Sam’s turn for a little fun he chose to sit down in one of the seats and let Dean sit right on top of him. No one liked turbulence but a little shaking was doing wonders for them both.
Instead of telling Dean how hard he was fucking him and how good he was going to feel when he shot off inside, Sam said other things which were far sexier than anything else he could have imagined. He whispered in Dean’s ear all about the life they had made with each other and told him all about how in two weeks their family was going to grow. He made sure to add, as he finally came, one of the things Dean loved to hear when they weren’t just fucking.
Sam pressed his lips into Dean’s neck and whispered about how given the chance, if there was a way, he would have gladly had his children and put up with stretch marks, sore ankles and unexpected gas in public places. If he could he’d have his babies and they’d raise them together.
“I know you would.” Dean moaned. “I know you would, Sammy.”
“I feel at home inside you.”
“Will you tell me that thing, Sammy?”
Sam knew exactly what he meant. He didn’t want to hear that he was at home inside. He didn’t want to know that given the chance Sam would have his children. There was something else that he liked to hear that had nothing to do with sex. He liked to hear the truth so he’d always remember it no matter what.
“I loved you first.” Sam smiled. “I loved you most.”
“Again.”
“I loved you before I loved her.”
“Thank you.”
“No problem. You okay?”
“Sticky.” Dean laughed. “Can I talk to you about the kids?”
“Um, once I’m not inside you anymore.”
“Oh, right.” Dean said as he kissed him. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
“Kind of gives new meaning to the upright and locked position.”
Dean was rarely on top but when he was it was fantastic. He never got on there and just kind of bounced around like a mad man. He took it slow and stayed in control. Sam enjoyed that but when he got up it was even better because he got to see the proof of a job well done.
As uninhibited as he was during sex, Dean only blushed when he would stand up after being on top. It happened quickly, but he still turned a little red as he snatched up his shirt and cleaned himself up and then tried to work on the spot on the floor of the plane.
“Why does gay sex have to be so messy?”
“It’s mostly the lack of condoms that makes it messy.” Sam said as he stood. “Lemme wipe off the chair.”
“Wow.” Dean said as he looked over. “I’m good.”
“Mmhmm.”
Since they had left from the auction they still had on their costumes which weren’t really costumes at all. Dean’s shirt had been smeared with DNA so they decided to change anyway into very comfortable clothes for the duration of the flight. Sam changed into a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt while Dean put on a pair of sweat pants and his hoodie. Sam had gotten them out for him and then noticed the second smaller hoodie inside with the O on the chest. He dug a little further and found one of Michael’s t-shirts from the center, Ethan and Evan’s socks and a one of Mikey’s shoes.
When they had said goodbye to the kids they all seemed okay. Even Ollie had a brand new red headed boyfriend to keep him company and gave Dean a kiss and a wave before they left. The kids could handle a few days away, but Sam wasn’t really sure that Dean was as okay with it as he seemed if he had packed so many little mementos.
Sam was completely fine because he talked to Ethan and his wife after they watched the movie. He had gone weeks at a time without seeing his kids if he was working on an out of town job. Michelle’s husband was always out of town on business and she had left Jolie with her mother before. All parents eventually spent time away from their kids and they were still just as loved when they got back. Dean’s problem seemed to be that he thought the kids were just going to completely forget about him if they didn’t see him for two days.
They had left dozens of pictures and made two hours worth of video messages, but it was just something Dean was going to have a very difficult time with. It was one of those things where he was so excited to spend time alone with Sam, but at the same time he was terrified of being away from the kids. It was sad because he couldn’t have as much fun as he deserved if he was constantly worrying about the kids who were in very capable hands.
Sam figured that was what Dean wanted to talk to him about so he prepared himself for that conversation as they opened a bottle of champagne and sat down to get comfortable. However, if it was on Dean’s mind, it came in second place to something else that was bothering him a little, something that Sam was in no way prepared for.
“I think Michael looked very attractive tonight.”
“Yeah he did.” Sam laughed. “Very nice.”
“No, Sam, I mean he looked really good.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.” Dean sighed. “I’m a sick perverted old bastard.”
“Um, attractive like “Wow, he looks really nice, what an attractive son we have.” Or like “Wow, I need to get rid of Alex.””
“I don’t know.” Dean said. “Okay, can I be completely honest?”
“Of course.”
“I would fuck the shit out of Bruce. Seriously, I swear to God, I would make him walk crooked for a week.”
“Me too.”
“Really?” Dean asked as he raised an eyebrow. “Hot.”
“Yeah.” Sam laughed.
“I mean really just have crazy sex with him until he screamed.”
“I get it.”
“Okay, and when I saw Michael tonight I felt funny, but not like I do when I sniff Bruce a little.”
“Aroused?”
“No, just…I don’t know. I would never ever even think about it, or consider it, but I felt weird.”
Sam felt a little weird to and he had a pretty good idea of why he felt that way. They had been dealing with gifted kids for a while. Mikey was incredibly talented with his piano and artwork. Ethan and Evan were well on their way to becoming great dancers. Ollie would inevitably display some talent besides seduction as well. They were all kids and made them both very proud. Michael was an adult and no matter how they wanted to pretend, they hadn’t raised him even if they were doing it now.
“I think you got to see that boy who came to our house six months ago. He was quiet and shy and ashamed of who he was. Over the past few months he’s opened up and he’s being himself more and tonight especially after we know he’s in sexual relationship, we got to see him unashamed of his sexuality.”
“So it’s like a different kid of pride?” Dean asked.
“Kind of, I mean sure it’s weird and I completely agree that he was very attractive tonight, but I seriously have trouble believing that you’re sexually attracted to him.”
“I just felt so weird.”
“Okay, well, when you saw him did you wonder what he looks like outside of his cowboy costume?”
“No, but I’ve seen him naked.”
“I mean when you saw him tonight, did you have any kind of sexual thought?”
“No.”
“Then it’s like the thing with dad. I’m am very impressed that at his age everyone wants to nail him. He’s attractive, maybe he’s even hot, but we’re not attracted to him.”
“No.” Dean laughed. “Maybe a little, but that’s because he’s a good grandpa.”
“Don’t worry about his Dean. Bruce is one thing, but I really have trouble believing you’re sexually attracted to Michael.”
“He’s really cute.”
“All our kids are cute, I just think maybe it’s weird for us because we didn’t watch him grow up, you know? And then he showed up tonight and floored everyone.”
“Okay, but after his birthday I was wondering what he was like in bed.”
“Um, do you mean how he was in bed, or how he was…”
Sam didn’t really know how to phrase it. He thought he knew what Dean meant but he was confused he sometimes said so many things to contradict himself at once that Sam had trouble keeping up. There was a huge different in wondering it Michael was any good in bed as opposed to wondering how he dealt with having sex with something he was in love with.
“Do you mean like if he was any good or how he acted because he was finally with a guy like Alex?”
“I mean like I was wondering if he cried or if Alex did anything he didn’t like. I wasn’t concerned with his skills between the sheets.”
“So you were just worried about his wellbeing. We’re learning as we go along and I think it’s hard because our friends don’t have kids his age. You know what, we’ll call Ethan once we get back and see what he says. Roger’s a teenager.”
“So you don’t think I’m a pervert?”
“Not about this.”
“How can you be sure?”
“Because if you were sexually attracted to him you would have packed his underwear instead of a t-shirt.” Sam laughed. “Dean, trust me, you’re not attracted to our son. You don’t think dad thinks we’re attractive?”
“He told me one time.” Dean said. “That I was attractive.”
“You’re blushing!”
“Made me feel nice.”
Dean got compliments all the time, but during their family photo shoot John told him he was a very attractive man. He added that he was very proud of him as well which didn’t hurt anything. It was a great compliment coming from him because no matter what it was about all children wanted their parents approval and pride.
“Please don’t worry about this.”
“Are you?”
“No, because you’re a good person and you’d never say or do anything to make Michael uncomfortable. I think you’re the only person who would be worried about this.”
“I guess so.”
“No guessing about it. How about if you ever feel sexually attracted you tell me.”
“What will you do?”
“I don’t know.” Sam laughed. “Kick your ass? I’m not going to worry about it because it’s not going to happen. Trust me on this Dean. You’re not a pervert and you’re not into our son.”
“Now what about Ollie?”
“Well.” Sam sighed. “I wouldn’t keep you from being happy with someone so much better for you than I could ever hope to be.”
“He wishes.”
For the rest of the flight they just kept on talking and occasionally threw around non kid friendly words. Dean did miss the kids, but he got to see them all the time. Time alone with Sam was a rarity, he wasn’t thinking about the time they spent together before bed or if Ollie was napping while the rest of the kids were at school, he had real quality alone time with him which was something that only happened once or twice since Mikey was born.
He was nervous about being away from the kids, but he had to weigh the pros and cons of their little vacation. The obvious biggest con was that he’d spend two days away from home, but the pro of time with Sam won out. He was looking forward to sleeping until noon and then maybe just getting dressed to walk into town to eat at that little diner with the best fried chicken ever.
Food didn’t even really seem like that much of priority when it’s absence meant he’d get to spend more time naked in bed with Sam. They were going to have sex and plenty of it, but Dean was even looking forward to just sitting around and talking with a couple of beers like they had done for that first month of their relationship.
Every now and then Dean missed the two of them but then one of the kids would do something cute or say something so funny he laughed until he nearly pissed himself. He thought about them at home already sleeping. John and Carol were staying at the house so the kids would be more comfortable. He just knew that Carol was probably sleeping in the guest room while John had all the kids piled on top of him in the basement maybe even Michael and Alex had decided to stay with them. There was a very good chance that maybe Michael and Alex took Ollie for his own super special sleepover in the barn which was probably very good practice because Dean was already smelling wedding cake and baby powder whenever he was around them. He wasn’t certain what the sleeping arrangements would be but he knew that they were all fine and probably dreaming of him and Sam coming home on Monday morning refreshed and ready for their new little brothers and sisters or brothers or just sisters.
When they landed in Louisiana Dean grabbed their one bag and took Sam’s hand so they could exit the plane. They were landing at a smaller airport since Monroe wasn’t that big of a town. They got to walk right off the plane which made them both feel like big time celebrities which they totally were.
Auden had gone out of his way to arrange for a limo since there wasn’t a place to rent cars at the airport. The driver was holding a sign that said Winchester which made Dean laugh a lot more than it should have.
“We’re kind of a big deal.”
“Yes, we are.” Sam laughed.
“Hi!” Dean waved at the driver.
“Good evening.”
“Good evening.” Sam smiled. “Thank you.”
“Just doing my job. Mr. Matherne has arranged for the diner near his house to stay open until your arrival if you’re hungry.”
“Oh.” Dean grinned. “Fried chicken before bed, I’m in, what about you, Sammy?”
“I can do that.”
Not only had Auden arranged for Dean’s favorite diner to stay open late just for them, but there was a cooler in the back of the limo stocked with their favorite beer. He had thought of everything, which he probably would have done even if he didn’t rub one out on Sam.
“Here’s to our vacation.” Dean said as he raised his beer. “Cheers, Sammy.”
“Che…”
Sam stopped himself when his phone rang. It was John calling probably just to update them that all the kids were asleep and to make sure they got into Louisiana okay. Sam put it on speaker phone as he set his beer back in the cooler so they could both talk to him.
“Hello?”
“Daddy?”
“Ollie!” Dean laughed. “What are you doing awake so late?”
“Amy made pee pee.”
“What?”
“Made pee pee everywhere!”
“Uh oh.” Dean laughed. “No duck books for her.”
“Dean.”
“Made a pee pee and now you coming home.”
“On Monday buddy.”
“No.” John laughed. “Did you land already?”
“Yeah, we’re on the way to the house.” Dean said as he looked over at Sam. “Hey, you okay?”
“Driver.” Sam said. “Can you go back to the airport?”
“Yes sir.”
“What?” Dean asked. “Why?”
“Daddy, she’s making baby.” Ollie giggled. “Babies coming out.”
“She’s in labor Dean. We’re leaving for the hospital now.” John said. “Just get back home.”
“Oh, Fuck.”
“Yeah.” Ollie laughed. “Fuck!”
