Since becoming a father Dean had been nervous fairly often. He was nervous about the kids and Sam spending too much money, but he had never been quite as nervous as he was once he finally finished his article about the Impala. He was working on his Parenting article at the same time, but he finished the car one first and waited a day before he showed it to anyone.

He felt really good about it, since he had done what they asked and provided a profile for the car he loved above all other cars. He gave a little background about his own Impala, then wrote about how he had since bought two more, one for Ethan and one for his oldest son. He thought it flowed very well and gave a very good overview of the car.

After he let it marinate for a day he printed out three copies. One went to Mikey, one went to Michael, and the third went to Alex. He wanted their opinion first before he gave it to Sam, since he felt like among all of them he might be his harshest critic. Dean asked everyone to be very honest and he was worried that Sam might be a little too honest so he did a trial run.

Mikey read it over while nodding and then pointed out a small typo. Dean was pretty sure he got all of them, but he had accidentally used the word “Not” when he should have written “No.” It was a small mistake that most people would have made and then spell check wouldn’t have noticed. Mikey thought it was very well written even if the technical jargon confused him a little bit.

Michael loved it because it mentioned his car several times. When they first bought him his own Impala, Dean was worried that maybe he just wanted one to make him happy, but Michael really loved that car. He spent just as much time keeping it up as Dean always did, and was very quick to accept compliments about how cool it was. He pointed out Mikey’s same typo and said he was very proud to have two dads that were excellent writers.

Alex for some reason completely missed the typo which Dean thought was funny since he was a teacher. Like everyone else he thought the article was funny, well written, and very informative. He thought it sounded a lot like Dean which is exactly what the magazine wanted. They could have hired some writer to research, but the article was about Dean Johnson’s favorite cars, not just about cars some random freelancer thought were cool.

With glowing approval from the three of them Dean corrected his one typo and handed a copy over to Sam. He gave it to him while they were on their Friday night date which was taking place in the barn.

John had kicked them both out of the house and told them to either sleep for two hours or do stuff to each other. He didn’t care what they did because him and Carol were going to watch all the kids and spend some time with the babies. Sam had tried to argue at first, but Dean was eventually the one who decided they earned time off. The babies hadn’t even been home for a week and they were already more exhausted than they had been after six months with Ethan and Evan.

Mary was still going strong with her screaming. It was so bad that they even had Nick make a house call to see if anything was wrong with her. He couldn’t find a single thing and just decided that she was a screamer and they were going to have to deal with it until she decided to calm down.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if she didn’t wait to scream until Milo had just fallen asleep. It was starting to get so bad that Sam was actually considering separating them. They only reason they slept right next to the bed was to make getting up in the middle of the night easier, but it was making things a lot worse. Dean wasn’t really sure about putting her in a different room though. He didn’t like the idea of her being separated from them when she was already the only girl. Sam then suggested they move Milo, but again Dean didn’t really think that was fair so she stayed next to the bed and screamed every chance she got.

While Sam read the article Dean sat down opposite him in one of the chairs in Michael’s living room. It was basically his house, they were just hanging out in it for their date since they’d be able to hear Mary scream from every other room in the house. In an effort to relax more Dean picked up his sketchpad and started to draw.

It was Mikey’s suggestion to help him calm down. He always felt very peaceful when he was creating, so he was pretty sure that Dean would feel the same way. For the first few hours he drew he was just making swirls and spirals, but then he actually did start to relax.

He was very interested in the complex patterns Carol bought for her quilting. The attic was filled with them and she had thousands at the store. They were expensive and Dean didn’t see why he couldn’t draw some for her. They all started out a little shaky, but after a few hours he had sweeping curves filled in with thin plumes and tiny pearls. He had been doing it for two days and Sam hadn’t really asked what he was doing yet. Dean first thought it was because he was completely uninterested, but it was something else entirely.

The real reason Sam hadn’t said anything was because he was usually too exhausted to talk. Even while he was reading the article he looked tired. He was only moving his eyes and it was still too much. Mary was really a handful which they were never expecting since it certainly seemed like six boys and one girl would have been most parent’s worst nightmare. All the other kids were a cakewalk when compared to her.

They only way they were going to get through the next few months was taking it one day at a time and maybe every once in a while taking some time off for themselves. Dean really sort of liked just hanging out in the barn even if he was worried about the article. It was really nice to just sit down with Sam and not even talk. It was quiet in there and that was all they really needed.

While Dean was drawing he kept looking up to watch Sam. He had been perfectly still, but once he got to the second printed page he started to move around a little bit. He was sort of twitchy like he was trying to get comfortable and it wasn’t really working.

“You okay?”

“Yeah.” Sam said. “And I’m done.”

“Okay, listen be completely honest, but don’t be mean because I worked really hard on it.”

“Okay.”

“Okay.” Dean said as he put down his sketch book.

Sam was planning on telling Dean exactly what he thought, but he figured it was best to show him first. He got up from where he was sitting, stretched and let his erection poke out from his jeans loud and proud. He had a severe tent going on that made Dean scratch his head before he tried to get down on his knees in front of him.

“No, Dean.”

“I don’t mind.”

“It’s incredibly sexy.” Sam said as he helped him up. “I have no idea how you did it, but it’s…fucking hot.”

Sam made it about a hundred words in before he felt his blood start to boil. He knew Dean could write a good article and he’d be the first to admit he was worried about sentence structure, but it was perfect and for some reason very arousing. Dean wrote about the Impala like they had been fucking for years, which as far as Sam knew was exactly what he did when he got behind the wheel.

He hadn’t just written an article, Dean had turned out two thousand words of car porn that even aroused someone who had no interest in cars other than as a mode of transportation. He wrote about the lines of the car like they were curves of smooth flesh or hard muscle. The engine was like a beating heart or a throbbing cock. Sam had no idea what the hell he had just read, but it was perfectly written and so arousing he was tempted to masturbate for the first time in years since he was sure that was what every subscriber to the magazine would be doing when they read it.

“Weally?”

“Yes.” Sam laughed. “It’s perfect Dean. It’s exactly what they wanted and informative but not boring. It’s funny and still technical. I am so proud of you.”

“Come on with all that.” Dean blushed. “Come on with that, all that stuff.”

“Aw.”

“With all that being proud.”

“It’s great. I know we were going to sit down and make it perfect, but you don’t need me for that.”

“Thanks, Sammy.” Dean smiled. “You really think it’s sexy?”

“Do I!” Sam said as he pointed at his crotch. “I got a total boner.”

“Can I suck on it?”

“Fuck yeah!.” Sam yelled. “We’re relaxing!”

They probably shouldn’t have done anything in the barn, but it’s not like they were in Michael’s bedroom. If they had sex in the middle of the ball pit, Sam saw no reason they couldn’t swap head and maybe take a quick nap afterwards. That was how they should have been dealing with a screaming baby. As soon as she stopped they should have gone down on each other so when she started again they’d be relaxed and not really care. It was a pretty good plan, but getting head in the barn wasn’t.

Dean of course couldn’t just give head without doing something for himself and as soon as Sam was back on the sofa with his legs pushed up into the air Alex walked right in the door like he usually did since Michael had said it was okay.

“Michael! It’s the end of the week and you’ve been a naughty boy in class, time to do some extra cre….Oh fuck!”

“Shut the door!” Sam yelled as he pushed Dean away.

Alex nodded and then shut the door behind him. Sam should have yelled to get the hell out of there because Alex stayed inside and stared at the ground. That was officially the second time he caught them in the act. He had seen Dean’s erection as a Christmas present and for the end of the week he got to see Sam’s and then some.

“What the hell!” Dean yelled as he wiped his mouth.

“I didn’t know you two were in here.”

“What exactly do you mean by extra credit?” Dean asked.

“Well at the end of the week sometimes we play a game where he’s been naughty in class and I have to give him a deten…”

“I will kill you.”

“No! It’s not what you think, well it is, it’s exactly what you’re thinking.”

“Uh huh!” Dean yelled.

“It’s uh...” Alex said as he looked up. “Hi Sam.”

“Hi.”

“Uh…” Alex sighed. “Well. I can see you two are busy. I’m actually a little hungry too, I’m gonna grab the sandwich I left here yesterday and just um, retreat to my safe place.”

“Oh no.” Dean said as he stopped him. “You don’t get to see Sammy’s magic stick and then just walk out of here. I’m going to wash out your peepers with soap.”

“Why are you two even having sex in here?” Alex asked.

“Because dad and Carol are with the kids.” Sam sighed. “And we’re trying to relax.”

“Oh, I’ll just go back home if they’re hanging out.”

“You can hang out with us, I’ll munch butt later.”

The only problem with that was that it wasn’t going to happen. They had both been trying to fool around a little but the only action either of them got was when they traded hand jobs in the bathroom. Sam had completely deflated and Dean was looking for a reason to not have sex. They had always driven each other crazy but since the new babies came they were just as bored with sex as Milo was with damn near everything. Sam’s sex drive was completely gone and while the article had revved it up, it faded fast and they lost their moment.

“I’m sorry.” Alex said as he went to get his sandwich.

“It’s okay.” Sam said as he sat back down. “Hey, you ever feel like not having sex?”

“What?”

“We’re not really into sex lately.” Dean shrugged. “I dunno why.”

“We tried but then it just doesn’t really go anywhere.”

“Uh.” Alex said as he cleared his throat. “I am in a new relationship, so I’m sort of into it.”

“Oh.”

“I guess when I was with Justin we had a few dry spells. You’re both really stressed, I wouldn’t worry about it. How long has it been?”

“A week tomorrow.” Sam frowned.

“You’re worried about a week?”

“No.”

A week without sex wasn’t a big deal because they had already gone months after Ethan and Evan were born. The difference was that they wanted to have sex and were just too tired or busy. Now they both had very little desire to do it. If they did they would have told Alex to get lost and got right back down to business. It wasn’t anything to really worry about yet, but they both really needed to relax and busting one off would have helped tremendously.

“We’re worried because we don’t want to.” Dean said. “And see it’s like normally I don’t care if I get off, but I want to get Sammy off, now I’m not concerned about either of us.”

“Me too.”

“You’ve been together for like eight gay years, that’s like a hundred straight years. I’m guessing Mary is still pretty cranky, maybe you’re too concerned with her to be bothered with yourselves.”

“Michael told you she was still crying?” Dean asked.

“Mikey did.” Alex sighed. “I wasn’t going to say anything because it doesn’t really matter as far as teaching goes, but he fell asleep in class today.”

“What?”

“Yeah, we were watching a video and I was going over some papers, I looked up and he was out. It was just for a few minutes, but I asked if everything was okay and he said it was a lot harder to have a little sister than he thought because they yell a lot more than little brothers.”

“Shit.” Dean sighed.

“And Carla said the twins aren’t giving her any problems at all.”

“Shit.” Sam said.

That probably would have been good news for most kids, but if Ethan and Evan weren’t busting her girl balls just a little it was because they were just as exhausted as Mikey was. Ollie was probably feeling it a little too, but he got to sleep late and have a nap in the middle of the day. The rest of the kids were up bright and early and had a full day before they went back to sleep.

The new babies weren’t even home a week, but the screaming seemed like a trend Mary was going to keep up. Dean had been so concerned about paying equal attention to all of them he didn’t even consider that the kids would have a problem that was completely out of their control. Ollie had been over Mary about ten minutes after they brought her home and everyone else seemed very close to doing the same thing.

The worst part about her crying was that they had no idea what was causing it. She was fed, dry, nice and warm. She wasn’t sick or showed any signs of being allergic to her formula. They kept her very comfortable and tried everything but nothing worked. She was just fussy and it was exhausting for everyone in the house.

“Okay.” Dean sighed. “Maybe we’ll talk to the kids and see if they want to spend some time with dad and Carol. I don’t care about being exhausted, but I don’t want them to be because she hates us.”

“She doesn’t hate us.”

“Then what is it? There’s nothing wrong with her. We’ve tried everything, I’ve reread every book I have. We’ve all tried to hold her, we’ve all fed her, she’s just pissed off about something and she can’t tell us.”

“She can’t tell us.” Sam said.

“I just said that.”

“But maybe she could tell Mikey.” Sam whispered. “Hmm?”

Most of the time it seemed like Mikey wasn’t exactly reading people’s minds. He was picking up on their feelings. He was always saying stuff about how people felt instead of how they seemed. When Alex needed to talk to Dean, Mikey had said he felt nervous and just maybe he’d be able to figure out how Mary felt and then tell them so they could make it better.

“Huh.”

“Worth a shot.” Sam shrugged. “Maybe there’s something we can’t see.”

“How is Mikey going to…”Alex paused. “None of my business.”

“Sorry.” Dean said as he shook his head. “We’ll handle it, don’t worry about him. I bet after a weekend with the silver stallion they’ll all be good as new.”

“Well, that’s good, now I’d like to ask for a favor and ask that neither of you punch me.”

“Oh God.” Dean groaned.

“This is it.” Sam whispered. “Right here.”

Dean knew it was going to happen eventually. He figured that maybe Alex would have waited a little longer, but that was for people who weren’t already completely perfect for each other. Dean finally had his daughter and he just knew he was about to be asked if it was okay for his oldest son to get married.

“Uh…”

“Do you really love him?” Dean asked. “I’m not going to be okay with you asking him to marry you unless you’re really extra super in love.”

“What?”

“Maybe you’re taking this a little fast.” Sam sighed. “It hasn’t been that long and while we’re sure you’re both perfect for each other, maybe a few more months.”

“Guys, I…”

“Oh, what?” Dean asked. “You don’t even think you need our permission!”

“I…”

“Sammy, get me my hobo stabbin’ knife.”

“You’re a homo!”

“I said hobo!”

“First of all when I ask your permission to marry Michael I’m not going to do it after I’ve seen you roto rooting Sam’s ass with your tongue.”

“Oh geez.” Sam groaned.

“I tripped!” Dean yelled.

“Secondly, we’ve only been dating since September and I am extra special super in love with him.”

“Are you thinking about asking!” Dean yelled.

“Yes!” Alex yelled back.

“Oh.” Dean said as he quickly sat down. “I see.”

Michael wasn’t going to be one of those guys that wanted to date a lot of people. He wanted one boyfriend and then a husband because he liked to follow the example his fathers set. Even if they had just started dating that’s where they were heading. Alex was a lot like Dean and wanted a family. That started with a husband and then a couple of kids. He was by no means desperate since the subject of marriage hadn’t come up at all with Kevin, but then he wasn’t nearly as perfect as Michael was.

“Not like we need to book a band, but sometimes I think about what it might be like to have someone there all the time. Someone just for me who I can cook dinner with and wake up to each morning. I want that with him.”

“We want that for you.” Sam nodded.

“So since it’s almost Thanksgiving and I’ll have a week off of school, I was wondering if it was okay if we took a little trip. I thought we could leave the Friday before and maybe come back on Wednesday.”

“Does he want to do that?” Dean asked.

“I’m asking you first.”

“Um, yeah, that’s fine, right, Sammy?”

“Yeah. Oh, you can go to the house in Vermont if you want.”

“Really?” Alex smiled.

“Yeah.” Dean nodded. “Yeah, that’s fine, and you know what? You don’t have to ask our permission. He’s an adult and capable of making his own choices. If you want to ask him about going on vacation go for it. If you want to play hot for teacher that’s fine.”

“Okay.”

“He’s okay right?” Dean asked. “I mean, when you’re together.”

“Yeah.” Alex nodded. “Shaky for a while, but one day at a time, you know? I think maybe he still has a little trouble with what happened, but we laugh more. He knows I’m not them.”

That said so much about who Alex was. Some people probably wouldn’t have wanted to deal with someone who had so much baggage, but he was strong and he just picked them up and kept on walking. Michael’s bags were heavy and numerous, but a man like Alex had no problem with them, which Dean wanted to think was because he had a pretty good best friend.

“Alex.” Dean sighed. “Um, when you want to ask, just do it.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.” Sam smiled. “We like surprises.”

“Thanks guys.”

“No problem.” Dean said as he patted his knee.

“You want half of my sandwich?”

“Yeah.” Dean laughed. “I do.”

Alex gave them half of his sandwich and they all ate together making small talk. They didn’t know when he would ask, but if Michael said no then he was a fool because Alex was just about as perfect as a man could get without having the last name of Winchester.

All of the kids were positively thrilled when asked if they wanted to spend the weekend with John. Even Ollie who rarely ventured far from Dean ran out of the room and came back a second later with his bear, ready to get the hell out of there. Dean let Ethan, Evan, and Ollie go with John, but he kept Mikey back at least for a little while so they could talk to him about Mary.

Mikey loved John most of all, but he was willing to stay behind because he thought they needed help with the babies. After everyone was gone and Michael and Alex were watching a movie in the basement he said he’d read them a story if they wanted him too. He was even willing to keep an eye on them if they wanted to take a shower or have a nap.

He could have been with John and the rest of the kids, but he was just fine with helping his little brother and sister. Dean sat him down and very carefully asked if maybe he could figure out what it was Mary needed. If she was scared or nervous about something Dean wasn’t sure what they could do, but they had to figure out a problem before they worked on a solution. Mikey said that he absolutely would help, but he needed to be sure that it was okay to spy.

They both told him it was perfectly fine to take a peek because she was just a baby and while her thoughts and feelings were private they didn’t think she would mind. Sam wasn’t even sure if babies could think. They could certainly feel scared or hungry, but they’d have no idea what those feelings were actually called. He knew they were capable of thought, but without language he didn’t know if they could actually process thoughts.

They weren’t even a week old yet and Sam could already tell that they knew who everyone was. Milo was always a little more alert when Dean was holding him. He seemed less bored and a lot less pissed off at everything around him. Mary seemed marginally calmer in Sam’s arms but she still kept on screaming. It was always something she was doing and started it as soon as they walked into the bedroom.

Milo slept through it for a few seconds but then he started to cry. He didn’t like getting woken up and that was pretty much all Mary had been doing to him. Dean picked him up right away and whispered and sang until he got quiet and just watched. Even if he was biologically Sam’s, he knew he wasn’t in the arms of an uncle, he was in the arms of his daddy who just maybe didn’t bore the crap out of him.

“I’d like to hold her.”

“Okay.” Sam said as he picked Mikey up. “Let’s put you in bed and you can hold her.”

Mikey not only took his time getting comfortable in the bed, he even rearranged the pillows so he could lean back on them and give himself a little extra support. He held both of them once they came home from the hospital, even Ethan and Evan took a turn, but they weren’t that interested.

They seemed to be under the impression that they were just Ollie’s big brothers and their loyalties were to him. They spent a few minutes with the new babies and then almost an hour talking to him because they didn’t want him to think they forgot about him which would never happen.

Mikey readied himself as Sam picked Mary up from the bassinette. He was a completely professional big brother and knew all about how to hold a baby. He hooked his right arm around and supported it on his stomach. Once Sam had placed her in his arms, he used his right arm to support her tiny padded butt and she was just as secure as she could have been in their own arms.

Sam and Dean both stood back and just watched. Mary was still crying, but Milo got what he needed and stayed quiet in Dean’s arms. Neither of them were quite sure what Mikey was going to do, but they did trust him. Even after the stuff with Bruce they knew he’d never do anything to put his little sister in harms way even if she was constantly screaming and keeping him awake at night.

“She won’t let me.” Mikey frowned.

“What?” Sam asked.

“I don’t feel anything.”

“What do you normally feel?” Dean asked.

“Well, like when I’m around Mr. Watkins or Michael I feel like I’m on a roller coaster. My stomach sometimes feels a little funny. Or when I’m with grandpa I always feel like I just got a bunch of gold stars at once, like proud.”

“Is that how they feel?” Sam asked.

“Well yeah.” Mikey nodded. “Grandpa knows he does his best and that makes him proud of himself. Michael always has butterflies especially around Mr. Watkins.”

Mikey was offering a little insight into everyone. Michael and Alex felt like they did because they were in love. Whenever Mikey was around John he was proud of the grandpa he became and just as proud of the grandchildren he never thought he would have. They had always assumed that Mikey reading other people was a bad thing, but it wasn’t at all. He got to feel what love was like and he knew pride because it was all around him.

“Hmm.”

“What?” Sam said as he sat next to him.

“Daddy, take my hand.”

“Okay.”

Mikey slipped his right hand out from under Mary and Sam took without asking any questions. When they healed Charlie they needed a little extra help and to figure out what was going on with Mary he needed it again. Sam closed his eyes and tried to help out even if he wasn’t entirely sure what to do.

“Well, you’re just stubborn.” Mikey sighed. “Daddy, you too, come on.”

“Me?”

“Yeah, take daddy’s hand and we’ll get to the bottom of this.”

Dean sat down next to Sam and took his hand. Mikey apparently knew what he was doing and just maybe Mary’s screams had started to dwindle a little. She sounded like she was just crying and not trying to bust any eardrums.

Sam closed his eyes once again and tried to concentrate but all he could hear was how upset Mary sounded. It wasn’t just a needy cry, it was like she was scared or upset about something.

“Big guns.” Mikey sighed.

“There are…”Sam paused. “Oh.”

“What?” Dean asked.

“I see Jenny in my head.”

Sam saw her just as clear as he would have it he was in the apartment with her and Tony. They were sitting on the sofa together with a carton of ice cream watching television. He had his hand on her stomach and they were both smiling. That was most certainly spying, but something told him it wasn’t a thing Mikey had ever done before, because Jenny looked a little surprised as she excused herself.

“There we go.” Mikey laughed. “That’s our mom. Isn’t she pretty?”

Mary’s crying had all but stopped. She was still whining a little but it was so faint that Sam heard honest to God silence in the house. It was so quiet he felt like he could finally breath. Mary was awake and not screaming which was a huge leap in the right direction.

Sam could still see Jenny in his head, but she disappeared as soon as Mikey let go of his hand. Everyone had held the babies except for their mothers. Amy had looked at them for just a second to make sure everything was where it should be. Jenny had seen them a few times but she hadn’t held them so they didn’t know who she was. Little boys like Milo might want their daddies, but a princess like Mary wanted her mommy, at least for just a second.

“She’s quiet.” Dean whispered as he squeezed Sam’s hand. “Oh thank God.”

“Now I can feel her.” Mikey nodded. “Oh…”

“What does she…”

“One second daddy.” Mikey told Sam. “It’s okay. You don’t have to worry about him at all. I do too, but now I know better. Our daddies are the best in the whole world and we’re all very safe.”

Mikey was having an actual conversation with her. She had completely stopped making any noise and their eyes were locked together. He was talking and somehow she was answering him back. It may have just been emotions, but they were talking, Sam had never been so sure of anything in his life.

“It’s Jenny.” Mikey said as Dean’s phone rang.

“Oh.”

“Tell her thank you.”

“I will.” Dean nodded.

“I know what you need.” Mikey told Mary. “You’re just like us, aren’t you? Daddy, will you get Michael?”

“Yeah.”

Dean handed Milo off and then grabbed his phone before he sprinted out of the room. If Mary wanted Michael for some reason he was going to get him. If they had to make extra room in the bed for him to keep her from crying they were going to do that too.

“Is she okay?” Sam asked.

“Oh yeah.” Mikey whispered. “She’s worried about Michael, sometimes he’s still a little scared of those people. Mary’s scared of them too.”

“Why?”

“Because Amy is. Daddy, what did they do to him?”

“They weren’t nice.” Sam said as he shook his head.. “They were really mean to him.”

Michael was very well adjusted for what he had been though, but it still hurt and there wasn’t any way to get rid of those memories, at least not any way they’d allow. Dean had brought it up once and suggested that maybe Michael deserved a clean slate. If he had made Ray remember then he could make Michael forget and the life he wrote about in the journal could be real for him.

It was a very difficult conversation to have, but eventually they both decided to do it. They were going to talk to him and Dean could make him forget all the bad things that ever happened to him. He’d never remember Alabama and probably wouldn’t even questions how they had an eighteen year old. They were all set to do it when Sam remembered that history was better off if it didn’t repeat itself.

John had given them the perfect childhood for nine months, but that didn’t exactly work out so well. Everything was eventually fine, but there was no way they could deal with the fallout if he ever did remember, so they made a choice to keep his memories intact even though that meant all the pain was sticking around as well.

Amy had been so strong in the courtroom, but Sam never thought she’d still have a problem dealing. John had been through hell and he couldn’t handle it. Anthony, Bruce and Auden dropped off like flies and she stayed sitting next to Sam and holding his hand. The men were weak sometimes, but all the women in their lives stayed strong.

“Hey.” Michael said as he walked into the bedroom. “What’s wrong?”

“Michael, why was your family mean to you?”

“Mikey, that’s not…”

“It’s okay.” Michael nodded. “You know how your brothers eat cookies all the time?”

“Yep.”

“Now me personally I only have them a few times a week, but believe you me, when I eat one it’s real good.”

“Because you don’t eat them too much.” Mikey nodded. “Makes it better.”

“Yep, now my family wasn’t nice to me ever, but now I have the best family in the whole wide world. I’m pretty sure I’ll never have to worry about much ever again. Maybe I ain’t as lucky as I should’a been, but I got there eventually.”

“It’s not that simple though.” Mikey said. “Is it?”

“No, it’s not.”

“Why didn’t you tell anyone your brother died?” Mikey asked.

“Because you’re my brother.” Michael smiled. “Milo too. Rest of ‘em are at Grandpa’s house and it looks like my little sister finally calmed down.”

“Mary was worried about you, but I think she’s better now.”

Sam looked away from Mikey to study Michael’s face. His brother still had years until they carried out his sentence but apparently he wasn’t going to get there. Michael was still smiling because Clay was dead and apparently had been for a while. The way Mikey had said it concerned Sam a lot. He never said died, when people weren’t around anymore they went to live in heaven, but Clay Higgens never made it there.

“What happened?” Sam asked.

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Okay.”

“Daddy, she’s good to go.” Mikey smiled. “I think you should let them sleep next to each other. I don’t think she’ll cry now that she knows Michael is okay, but she needs Milo.”

“Why?”

“Duh, he’s her big brother.” Mikey laughed as Dean walked back into the room. “Daddy, can Mr. Watkins take me to Grandpa’s?”

“Yeah, that’s fine.”

“Okay. Did you tell Jenny thank you?”

“Yeah.” Dean said as he took Mary. “I did. She was calling to make sure everything was okay.”

“Good.”

Mikey kissed everyone and then walked out of the room to get Alex to walk him to John’s house. He seemed so indifferent to everything that happened, but Sam wasn’t really worried about that. Mikey was smart enough to ask questions and mature enough to know when he wasn’t ready for the answers. Eventually he’d be old enough to hear Michael’s story, but at seven years a comparisons to cookies was good enough for him.

“Clay’s dead.”

“What?” Dean asked.

“I didn’t say anything because he’s not my brother and I don’t care.”

“That, that’s fine.” Sam stuttered. “What happened?”

“I saw an article online about a fire. I set it to alert me about stories from Robertdale.”

“A fire?” Dean asked.

“Yeah, in his cell, that don’t know how it started, but he died and he’s gone.”

“When did this happen?” Sam asked.

“Saturday.”

“Oh.”

“I’m gonna take a walk to grandpa’s with Alex. We might go for a walk.”

“Okay.” Dean nodded.

They didn’t have to ask if he was okay, because it was quite obvious he was. He’d never forget what Clay had done to him, but he didn’t lose a brother. Clay had never really been his brother and apparently Michael saw no reason to mourn the death of a stranger.

“Uh, Amy had a dream about them dying in a fire on Saturday.” Sam said after he left.

“Oh.”

“You don’t think they uh…”

“No.” Dean shook his head.

“Mikey said Mary was worried about him because Amy was.”

“Well, I’ll be rational and maybe take a shot in the dark, that if she remembered what happened once she was pregnant with there two then maybe she picked up a little psychic mojo.”

“Okay.”

“And if you let loose when you were really upset about Bruce then it only makes sense that if she’s upset about his family that maybe she…”

“Did what none of us could do?” Sam asked.

“Yeah.” Dean shrugged. “Aren’t you just as sweet as sugar now that you’re not screaming?”

“Are you okay with the fact that our babies may have helped to kill someone?”

“Dude, she’s not screaming, she could set me on fire right now and I wouldn’t care.”

“I’m kinda worried.”

“I am a little.” Dean nodded. “But the way I see it Mikey could be walking around and telling everyone what to do and getting inside their heads. He doesn’t because we’ve taught him better. If Amy had anything to do with this it isn’t their fault.”

“Okay.”

“And come on, fires sometimes actually start all on their own. Prison, faulty wiring, he was probably brewing up sangria in the toilet. Sammy, she’s finally quiet, let’s not spoil this. I’m pretty sure if Mikey knew something was wrong with them he’d tell us.”

“You’re right, we had the big boy talk and he knows.”

“And if they did have something to do with it, I wouldn’t hold it against them.”

“Me neither.”

Sam was pretty sure they didn’t have a pair of fire starters on their hands. If they did somehow influence Amy it wasn’t really her fault either. Since the trial everyone had been entertaining murderous thoughts and Clay was finally taken care of. Since Mikey had said he died, Sam had to assume that he was where he belonged and was still burning for what he had done.

“I guess.” Sam sighed. “That if Mary planned on setting a few fires Mikey would have seen that.”

“Exactly, and we know Milo didn’t do it.”

“Why?”

“Dude, look at him. He’s bored just laying there. You think he’d actually be bothered to start a fire on the other side of the country?”

“Probably not.” Sam laughed. “He’s asleep.”

“And this one.” Dean said as he looked down at Mary. “This one is actually pretty sweet. I’m going to throw away the receipt.”

“She sure is. Sort of like her daddy.”

“Don’t worry about them Sammy. We’ve got good kids.”

“Yeah, we do.” Sam smiled. “And a house mostly to ourselves until Sunday night.”

“Mr. Winchester.” Dean said as he looked away. “Are you suggesting what I think you are?”

“Hours and hours.” Sam grinned. “Right here, right in front of them.”

“They’re babies.”

“They won’t know.”

“If you say so.”

They put both of them down and then decided to just go for it. They crawled into bed and slept for hours and hours because Mary had made sure everything was okay and she didn’t have to scream about big brother anymore. Milo seemed to be happy about that, but still he really didn’t care.

On Sunday morning Sam woke up incredibly refreshed but freezing his super potent nuts off. He thought for sure it was snowing outside, but quickly realized he wasn’t under the covers. Dean had all of them wrapped around him like a big old cinnamon bun with a super sweet filling.

Ollie had happily slept over at John’s house on Friday night. He seemed just fine, but on Saturday morning he was done with it. He wouldn’t eat breakfast with them and spent the entire morning tapping a picture of Dean until John brought him home. As much as he wanted to get away from the babies for a while and spend some quality time with his grandpa he just missed Dean too much.

The only reason the kids were there was because of Mary, but she had very quickly calmed down. She apparently realized everything was okay and didn’t scream anymore. She did a little crying, but Sam took Mikey’s suggestion and put her down next to Milo and neither of them made a peep.

Besides a few diaper changes and quick feedings Sam got to sleep almost all of Friday and Saturday night. By Sunday morning he felt like a new man ready to get the day started, but he was freezing.

Dean and Ollie were wrapped up like Siamese twins under the covers. They were so tight that Sam couldn’t even pull a little bit of the sheet over for him. When he tried to nudge Dean a little he was quickly greeted with a hand to the face pushing him away. Dean pulled Ollie a little closer and very contently moaned into the back of his head.

Sam was all set to just stay in bed with them for a little longer, but he was freezing and had to pee so he rolled out and danced his way to the bathroom. Milo was awake, so he had to make it quick and then get back out there to see what he was up to. Since Mary had calmed down Dean said Milo was getting his Ollie on by just sort of chilling out and waiting for someone to help him. Sam was that someone because Dean was knocked out.

“You come with daddy.” Sam whispered. “We’ll put food in your b-e-l-l-y.”

Milo just kind of stared at him like he was suggesting they play a game of pitch and catch in the backyard. Sam really didn’t care if he bored Milo, because he was just so cute. His hair was very thin and wispy, but it was pretty long for a baby. All their kids had been born with a full head of hair except for Ollie who just had fuzz for his first few months. Mary looked like she didn’t have hair at all, but it was there, just very light. Her hair was as light as Mikey’s was and would hopefully stay that way because Dean needed his blonde daughter.

“Daddy’s here.” Sam whispered as they walked down the stairs. “You like to eat, right? It’s a big day for me, maybe Anthony will come over and see us.”

It was Sunday which meant The New York Times would have their updated bestseller list. Sam was really hoping that would have Anthony coming over, but he wasn’t so sure. After he talked to him and Dean talked to Bruce they both decided they needed to do some more work on nursery and spend quality time with Nathan. The nursery was completely done and Nathan spent his weekends with his friends. Anthony and Bruce were both avoiding them on purpose and pretending like they weren’t.

Sam wasn’t really surprised about Anthony doing it, but when Bruce stopped calling or just stopping over he got concerned. He trusted and looked up to Dean, but he didn’t want advice from him about Brooke. He listened to what he had to say and very cordially told him that the two of them and Amy were all wrong.

No one was saying that Brooke wouldn’t want to give Charlie up, they were just trying to make them understand that they should make it easy for her to want to keep him or expect a more active role in his upbringing. Anthony and Bruce both wanted her around, but they didn’t want a mom which was exactly what they were setting her up to be.

She’d never get sole custody of him because she had signed all her papers, but there was a very good chance that if they ended up in court that Anthony and Bruce would be forced to raise Charlie with her. Sam had read about several cases where the exact same thing happened and almost every time joint custody was awarded.

He was fairly confident that if they did end up in court that Brooke would get a lawyer who probably knew what he was doing and Sam would once again drag in the dream team to destroy him. It was just that simple, Anthony and Bruce were family and they had to look out for them.

Even if they didn’t have the money to afford top notch legal representation Sam knew that Anthony and Bruce were more prepared to have a child. Brooke lived in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn and she wasn’t ready to be a mother. Dean hadn’t been either, but at least he was able to figure out what to do. Anthony and Bruce already knew, Charlie had a room at their house and everything a baby would need. Bruce was doing residency, just like Brooke, but Anthony had a very well paying job where he made enough to completely support his entire family.

As upsetting as it was Sam decided to do his best to ignore it. Until there was an actual problem he wasn’t going to worry about it. If they ended up in court he’d help them out and forever be able to know that he tried to help them and they didn’t want to, which made them dicks.

“You need a nickname. I was thinking Cool and the Gang, but I think we’d need one more for that. I bet you’re happy little sister stopped yelling, aren’t you? I like your hair.”

Sam loved his hair. It was just damn cute and still funny after a week. Red hair was just about the best thing one of their kids could have ended up with since Dean had been scared of it for years. He very quickly changed his tune once Milo showed up because he read somewhere on the internet that if you had red hair you’d one day sprout angel wings and God would kiss your nose.

“Now.” Sam said as he fixed a bottle. “I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but your daddy is sort of famous. Of course I say that as a joke as I am totally famous and everyone wants to be me. My book came out last week and today we’ll get to see how it did. Short daddy is famous too and your step dad is famous and your mom is married to him and your other mom works at The Gap. Anyway, we’re all pretty cool. Let’s go see if I have another best seller so I can maybe buy myself something shiny.”

Once Milo was happily sucking on his bottle Sam walked to the office and turned on the computer. He was surprised at how excited he was. He was just a few clicks away from seeing if Robert Colt had the same Midas touch that John Michaels did. It wasn’t about money, Sam just really wanted proof that people bought his books because they were well written and entertaining and not because he happened to write them.

The screen had just lit up when Ollie and Dean made a surprise appearance. They were both dressed in matching pajama pants and t-shirts. The only real different between them was Ollie’s curly hair which was exactly the same color as Dean’s. They were adorable and they knew it.

“Hot jams.”

“In a second.” Dean told Ollie. “We need to see how daddy’s…”

“Hot jams.” Ollie said again. “Hi Miwhoa, time for a hot jams.”

“Okay.” Dean sighed. “Sammy, hot jams.”

Sam nodded and opened up iTunes. He scrolled right to K and then clicked play. Ollie sometimes needed to hear a hot jam as soon as he woke up and until that happened he wasn’t going to be happy. It was probably the one thing in the world that was going to keep Sam from searching out the bestseller list, because when they had hot jams they really got into it.

When the song started Sam turned it down a little because Milo wasn’t really into Kiss. He was more about banging on a drum while reading poetry at open mic right. Ollie and Dean mostly ignored the opening of the song, but they still prepared themselves. Dean squared up his feet and played and imaginary guitar while Ollie got ready for a little early morning head banging.

“Boy, I was made for you!” Dean sang.

“Boy, you was made for me!”

“I was made for loving you, baby!”

“You was made for loving me!” Ollie sang back.

“I can’t get enough of your belly!”

“You can’t get enuf’a me!”

That was usually as far as the got before Ollie had to devote all of his energy to doing the belly dance which was pretty much just him rubbing his marshmallow and occasionally swirling his hips around. It was a damn good thing Sam had given Dean his daughter because that was pretty much the only thing he had going for him when compared to Ollie.

“Well.” Sam said as he turned off the music. “That’s enough of that.”

“Okay.” Dean smiled. “Lemme say good morning to Miwhoa and then if there’s time we’ll see how daddy’s book did.”

“A pancake?” Ollie asked. “Wit a pig.”

“Sausage?” Sam asked. “Or bacon? I bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan.”

“Bohf.”

“Hmm.” Dean said. “Hey, Milo. How freaking boring is getting fed? Sammy he looks like he’s at the Canadian film festival.”

“He’s sort of p-i-s-s-e-d.”

“Why?”

He certainly looked a little pissed off. He looked a lot like Evan did when he was a baby before he got that shot full of sugar. Dean didn’t care if he was pissed off because he was still the cutest red headed baby which was no easy thing to accomplish with the future Mr. Watkins out in the barn.

“Well now that the princess has calmed down he’s got nothing to do at all.”

“Hmm.”

“I wanna hol’ him.”

“You do?” Dean asked.

“I’mma big boy.” Ollie nodded. “I can do it and feed ‘em.”

“I thought you didn’t like him.” Dean said as he bent down. “Do you like him now?”

“Maybe.” Ollie whispered. “A lil’.”

“Alright, come on up here.”

Dean picked Ollie up and sat him in Sam’s lap. It took a little maneuvering but eventually he moved Milo over and let Ollie snug right in. Sam was doing the holding but Ollie thought that he was in charge which made him smile bigger than ever while he held the bottle.

“I have a baby.”

“You sure do.” Dean smiled. “You’re a big brother now, it’s a hard job, but it’s a good one to have.”

“But no belly.”

“Of course not.” Dean shook his head. “He’s way too small for that.”

“And the cheese.”

“Yep and his feet smell like cheese. You three move on over, lemme show you how I do a internet.”

Sam could have waited a few more minutes especially since Ollie was enjoying Milo, but Dean was just as excited. He did a little typing and some clicking and eventually the bestseller list popped up on the screen. Dean saw it first and then waited for Sam to look up from Milo and Ollie.

“What do you think?”

“What?” Sam asked.

“Well, I sort of feel like you need to buy me a present. I’m the reason you’re so successful.”

“Fair enough, what would you like?”

“Permission to buy an old clunker to fix up with Michael and Alex. Mikey might even enjoy a renovation.”

“Will it be on my lawn on some cinderblocks?”

“Yep.” Dean nodded.

“Side of the house?”

“Sure.”

“Well.” Sam nodded. “It’ll be good bonding for you four.”

“Awesome.” Dean smiled. “Congratulations, Mr. Colt, I guess you are a halfway decent writer.”

Supernatural was right it belonged, on the very top of the bestseller list. It was only a week and Sam had his proof that people didn’t care whether or not his name was on a book. All they cared about was reading something well written, thought provoking and entertaining. He felt so incredible proud of himself because he had to tell the story and apparently the whole country loved to read it.

“So, let’s see. Best selling non-fiction, top grossing film, best selling fiction, a new movie about to come out, the documentary next year, a monthly column, what’s next?”

“A pancakes I think.” Sam laughed. “Then my own TV show. We’re like the Duggar’s except I don’t have the crazy 80’s hair.”

“You’re the dad, he’s the super potent one.”

“Awesome. Can I maybe get some sugar?”

“Mmm.”

Dean quickly kissed him once since Ollie was right there, but he was paying very close attention to Milo, so he decided that maybe he could go in for another.

“Uh ohs.” Ollie said as soon as they nearly kissed. “Poop.”

“You did, or you have to?”

“Hafta’. Sorry Miwhoa.”

Sam laughed and moved him out of the way so Dean could grab Ollie and run to the bathroom. He was doing really well with his potty training. He was still in his diaper and sometimes peeing, but most of the time if he had to drop a deuce he let them know.

“Told you I was famous.” Sam whispered to Milo.

Once they were in the kitchen Sam set him up in his little buzzing chair. Mikey had adored it as a child, but then Ethan and Evan weren’t really into it. Ollie seemed to enjoy it when he got the chance but most of the time he was in Dean’s arms where he belonged and remained even two years later.

Milo, as expected was completely bored as soon as Sam turned it on. He yawned twice and promptly went to sleep. Sam still kept it on because he thought that maybe he really did like it but just had to pretend he wasn’t interested in it because he was too cool for things that took batteries.

As soon as Sam was getting started on dumping some flour into the bowl for his pancakes he noticed Anthony walking towards the house. Sam was already feeling pretty good about the book and Mary, but when he saw Anthony he smiled a little bigger and added some more flour to the bowl.

He let himself in like he always did and pecked Sam on the cheek before he walked over to check on Milo. He seemed a little cautious but he still very quickly kissed his nosed before he took off his coat and got started on making some coffee.

“Congratulations.”

“Thanks.” Sam laughed. “I guess you saw.”

“Yeah, I did. You deserve it, it’s brilliant.”

“It’s been four days.” Sam said as he got out the eggs. “You done avoiding us?”

“I really was working on the nursery.” Anthony said as he held up his thumb. “And avoiding you.”

His thumb was smashed and black under the nail. It looked like he had slammed it in the door, but Sam knew that they were probably both over there trying to put up shelves or something and didn’t bother asking Dean for help. Bruce and Anthony weren’t even really talking to John and Carol either, so it wasn’t just them. They had decided to stay at home and just sort of avoided everyone.

“What happened?”

“I trusted Bruce when he said he could put up a shelve.”

“Why didn’t you call Dean?”

“Kinda got newborns.” Anthony sighed. “And I figured John would be busy with the kids. How’s Mary?”

“Sleeping and when she’s awake she’s not crying.”

“Awesome.” Anthony smiled.

“Hey, did you know Michael’s brother died?”

“Seriously?”

“In a fire.” Sam nodded. “Isn’t that crazy?”

“Explains why I’ve been sleeping so well. Is he okay?”

“He was fine, not his brother, you know?”

“Yeah.”

Dean had actually talked to John when he brought Ollie home on Saturday morning just to make sure that the twins didn’t have anything to do with it. He called him ridiculous and rolled his eyes because babies didn’t start fires. He didn’t even seem to think that Amy had something to do with it because of them. It was just faulty wiring or a clever guard who knew why Clay was in prison and took care of it for them. Either way, he got what he deserved.

“So, uh, cooking any crow with breakfast?”

“What?”

“You were right. Dean was right, Amy was right.”

“You talked to Brooke?”

“Yeah. She didn’t say she wanted to keep him, but it’s pretty obvious she does. She mentioned a few times about how she wasn’t sure how she was going to let him go. So, I wasn’t just avoiding you, I’m trying to help Bruce. I’m sorry for getting so upset about it. It’s almost four years and I should know that you’re always going to look out for us.”

“Are you okay?”

“Not really, I’ve been waiting so long for this, you know? I want a chance to prove that I can be a good dad when I didn’t have one. Nathan’s finally at a point where he’s actually excited about being an uncle and now I have to…She’s going to…”

Throughout everything Anthony stayed strong. He rarely cried for himself. He was a fountain when he was happy about something or upset about someone, but he never wasted tears on his own problems until he was standing across from Sam.

Luckily he had both of them. Dean came back into the kitchen singing to Ollie as soon as Sam went to hug him. He didn’t have to ask what was wrong because he could tell when another dad was hurting because of his child. They both held on to him while he cried and Ollie took care of his legs. It wasn’t going to be easy and they’d probably lose their friend, but they weren’t letting him or Bruce lose the child they wanted so much.

“Daddy?”

“Yeah?” Dean said as he bent down.

“A belly?” Ollie nodded. “For Anfony.”

“I’ll close my eyes.”

Dean squeezed his eyes shut because like Ollie if he couldn’t see something it wasn’t happening. Sam picked him up and put him on the counter so Anthony could get in one quick kiss that seemed to make him feel a little better.

“We’ll figure this out.”

“How?”

“We just will.” Sam said. “Try not to worry. It might get ugly, but we can handle it. How about you be my work out buddy while I get ready for this Armani thing and we’ll set you up with the lawyers.”

“Thanks.”

“And if you wanna do a number three on Sam, I’ll understand.”

“I did a two!” Ollie yelled. “A two!”

“You sure did.” Dean said as he crossed the kitchen. “Lemme get my gold stars, here they are!”

“On a belly.”

Ollie pulled his shirt back up and Dean stuck his special doing a number two without incident star on his stomach right above his little pokey belly button. It was a good thing it was there because Dean would have a place to aim his lips for the rest of the day. With so much good belly he sometimes had trouble trying to pick a spot and ended up wasting a lot of his time searching.

“Can I stay for breakfast?” Anthony asked.

“Of course you can. How about you set the table?”

“Okay, and Dean, um.”

“Yes?”

“If you have time later would you help Bruce with the shelves? He’s not very good at nailing.”

“I’d be happy to. You know when I taught Ollie the toilet I had to show him how to do it first. If I have to nail him for him to understand how it’s done, I’m willing to do that.”

“I knew you were going to say that. It’s actually screwing mostly.”

“He’s good at that too.” Sam laughed. “Well, from what I remember.”

“Sammy, when we’re ready again it’ll be fantastic. Now those pancakes aren’t ready yet and I am starving.”

Ollie had sat down on the counter right next to Milo. He was sort of checking him out trying to see what his whole deal was, but he was more than ready to give Dean a little appetizer while he waited for a pancakes.

“A toes?”

“Delicioso!” Dean yelled. “Muh muh muh.”

Anthony watched with a smile on his face while Dean went to town and Ollie laughed and held on to his hair. No matter what it took he’d be doing the same thing with Charlie in a few months. Dean was going to make sure of that because sometimes they didn’t even really need lawyers to remind Brooke of the promise she had made.
