Hun, believe me I will never be mad for someone putting their education first. The only thing I have to say is that one B is not going to ruin your chances. I used to be just like you and would cry if I saw how lazy I have become, which will be changing soon. Anyway, one thing I realized is that those colleges want to see someone who didn't focus solely on grades. My sister has told me several stories of people with near 4.0 GPA's in Electrical Engineering turned down from a job because they didn't have anything showing they could work with other people and a sort of balance in their life. It was obvious that that person only focused on their schoolwork, but that's not always the absolute best thing. I just don't want to see something like that happen to you hun and I know that debate helped me realize that I didn't need to completely emerge myself into schoolwork. That's the only reason that I would say you shouldn't quite debate.

From a fellow GPA monkey standpoint I'll tell you what I know about college apps. 1. colleges wants to see kids who have extra curricular activities, it shows that they have a committment, they can work with other poeple, and are more wel rounded 2. debate is a good extra curricular to have, it shows a higher level of thought to be able to do it, it shows a hard work ethic, and since it takes so much work you can get away with having only debate as yor extra curricular 3. remember Mr. Sagios talk. learning isnt just about what you learn in school, lifes about getting a big knowledge base and examining the world around you. debate is the best forum to do that. I mean maybe it wont get you into college, even though i think it does really help, but also debate just makes you know more about the world and yourself. it makes you think out side of the box to be cliche. the choice is up to you but I think debate is far more better for everones life in general that harm.

sooo, after about a week of not seeing your lj, you have referenced me three times, two mocking, fascinating, coming from an arrogant prick, btw, your attempt at pseudoanalyzation of my thought process and my self esteem falls drastically short. but its ok, i wouldnt expect more. now i suspect by the time i read any comment to this it will once more be antiquated and useless, oh well, fuck you, bye

however, everyone has the right to have opionions of people and post it on their own journal. so if you feel the need to rant on devin for some reason, do it on your own xanga....

whomping down on people on their lj just isn't cool.

Harvard is going to want to see that you were in extracurricular activities. Don't want to sound mean or anything (as it's quite obvious that you're better at the GPA game than I ever will be) but I doubt your B in English is because of debate. Stick with debate as long as you enjoy it because it probably isn't impeding on your ability to do well in school.

I know all about the use of debates and extracurricular activities and all that.

But debate was really what caused the B, because there was a time constraint where I couldn't do one thing, and I always seemed to just drop English or rush through it. I mean its an 89.6 and that is what makes it so bad.

BTW I was just venting because I was pissed. As Izz and some others I have told, I don't usually vent to people, so I did it here. I have no intention of dropping it, and I had no real intention, because I wouldn't be able to drop it anyways, because winter trophy pissed me off so much, I want to get better.

Oh and Schuyler, I was not mocking you twice. Once, yes and that was right after that exchange, and it was joking (as was the exchange on my part), one was a congratulatory statement, and another was a reference to a conversation with Izz, about debate helping you on the AP test, and I know for a fact that is not the way I study, it was just a comment, no malicious intent at all.
