My mum's dog squeals as if in terrible pain when you put your foot near her because she has learned that it gets sympathy.

She will also shiver as if she is cold even in the middle of summer for the same reason.

Not only can pets be dicks, they are clever dicks.

A dog we had growing up was mostly an outside dog, but he learned that if he sat outside the picture window, shivering and looking pitiful, he would get let in. (He had a warm nook in the garage he could have gone to, we weren't mean.)

Unfortunately, he was not smart enough to figure out why this did not work as well in the summer when it was close to 100 outside.

Ahahaha. I can totally sympathize. I had a tomcat, Gomez, who was well into his teens. He got to be a bigger "baby" as he got older. One day I was getting ready to leave and he starts limping around looking all pathetic. I started fussing and gave him a can of tuna. Sonuvabitch cat starts rolling around and playing afterward, no problems what so ever.
