CHARACTER

✧ NAME: Erik Lehnsherr || Magneto
✧ SERIES: X-Men: First Class
✧ HISTORY: Here
✧ TIMELINE: Post movie.
✧ PERSONALITY:

After the loss of his mother at a very young age, and being subjected to cruel experiments to draw out his mutant abilities, Erik knew only hate, anger and mistrust. He was driven by revenge and would take down anyone that stood in the way of his goals. He was violent and merciless, a raging inferno of emotional trauma. The only way he knew how to use his power was by dwelling on these negative emotions and pushing back all the other feelings that did not work to his advantage. He would go to incredibly ridiculous lengths, risking his own life, just to kill the man that had done all of that to him.

That was, of course, until one Charles Xavier stepped in and literally got into his head. He understood, he knew what Erik was feeling if only by association. Erik wasn't alone, and knowing that was what he needed to take a step in the right direction-- sort of. He was still a man driven by revenge, but he allowed himself room to finally grow. He reached out to other mutants along with Charles and formed bonds with them. For a time, one could even claim that he was happy. He was able - thanks to a bit of mindbending - to recall happy memories that he had long since repressed, to smile and laugh. But in the end, he was still the same man he always was, and he and Charles did not see eye to eye on one thing in particular.

Humans. Where Charles' idealism had him hoping for a world where humans and mutants could co-exist happily, Erik's realism and past experiences had him thinking otherwise. He didn't want a repeat of past events that lead up to this point, that lead to his mother's death and his quest for revenge. In that sense, at least, he is very stubborn and sticks to his ideas no matter who opposes him. He went against his only true friend in the world because he believed his way was right.

He believes and fears that the humans will try and rise up above the mutants and subject them to what the Nazis had done with the Jews. Being one that lived through that hell personally, it rightfully strikes a nerve in him. So he believes in keeping them on the lower tier, to keep the mutants from being destroyed by them.

He seems to despise when mutants attempt to blend in with humans, knowing that they do not belong with the inferior beings. Like when Raven disguised herself, he would object and only wished to see the real her that she was meant to be. He called her natural, blue form 'perfect'. And when Hank enhanced his genes to turn into a fuzzy blue beast, he commented - with utmost sincerity - that he 'never looked better'. It's safe to say that he prefers when others don't hide themselves for who they truly are.

Outside of these negative feelings, Erik can feel compassion and plenty of others, he is just bad at expressing them and is so use to resorting to anger with everything. Thanks to Charles he was able to hone his mutant abilities by finding the 'area between rage and serenity' and from that he seemed to be just a tiny bit more open with the positive emotions. Not much, but it was a start. It was obvious when he accidentally shot the bullet into Charles' back, that he felt genuinely bad for what he did, and even when he left him and the kids, he still would consider Charles a friend despite all their differences.

Erik is a very cynical man that does not trust easily and is very private. He never discloses details about himself and the only way to get those details out of him is to literally get into his head. Perhaps that is why he became such good friends with Charles, because even if he wanted to he could not hide himself and the man knew exactly how he felt.

✧ ABILITIES/POWERS: FUCKIN MAGNETS

Erik can manipulate the Earth's magnetic fields, giving him control over every type of metal. At his canon point he has mastered the ability thanks to Charles Xavier's teachings.

Some might ask why he decided to take Emma from her prison and into his newly founded Brotherhood. And he would tell them all the same thing: because when the humans finally decided it was time to be rid of the mutants, he would need all the help he could get. The man he called a friend, a brother, a fellow mutant would not join him. In fact, since they were now playing on opposing teams, it only seemed fair that he should find a telepath of his own to help in his cause. She would easily join him for her freedom, he knew that, and took advantage of it.

His team was small, but they feared and respected him. Some more than others and he knew, oh he knew, that there were some that would inevitably betray him. Maybe have a change of heart and join up against him with Charles and the others. He would let them go, let them choose their own side. They had that right.

It was the thought of what might happen when the two forces inevitably clashed, the thought of fighting his dear friend and the students they both had taught together, that made him weary. He thought they were out for the same thing, for a better world for mutants but Charles was too kind and sympathetic. It would get him killed because those humans would use that kindness and his abilities against him. In the end Erik - No. Magneto - knew that no good could ever come from them. He had seen time and time again what they were capable of. The pointless wars and the thousands of lives that were lost because of their fear of the unknown.

Charles thought they would learn to accept mutants, and Magneto knew they wouldn't. He feared it would all end up repeating it self - as history usually did - with humans rounding up mutants, separating families and offing them one by one until the threat was gone from their world. Should that day come, there would be no mercy. Not even Charles would be able to stop Magneto and his Brotherhood from putting the humans in their rightful place. He would not allow his fellow mutants to be destroyed so easily. He had lost plenty in his life. His mother, his father, his best friend and some of the kids he had actually grown fond of, but he wouldn't lose this.

Not again.

"Eri--Magneto?"

The man shook his head, shifting his gaze to the blue-skinned woman walking beside him and attempting to smile in response to the worried frown on her lips. To lessen her worries, but it was weak and half-assed and she knew it.

"Don't worry, Mystique," he said with a click of his tongue as he raised his hand and thrust the large metal door in front of them open, offering a hand out to her afterward to lead her through the threshold. "We will do this together."
