One of the things we meant to talk about in the panel, but I can't remember if we did, was the tension that results when characters get together but then break up and still have to hang out. We see this in canon a lot, especially in ensemble shows like How I Met Your Mother or Buffy. And sometimes the show likes to pretend it never happened, but the chemistry between the actors is so strong it's impossible to ignore. It was Dawson's creek and he still didn't get the girl. Because who could keep Pacey and Joey apart? No one, that's who.

Anyway, in that spirit, it turns out I have a lot of recs for stories that play with pining and the different forms it takes at all stages of a relationship, with or without sex.

Star Trek (Reboot): Kirk/Spock

The Morning After, by noodleinabarrel: Kirk and Spock get a little carried away while on shore leave and accidentally end up bonded. This has UST, RST, UST again, and pining, pining, pining.

Shore Leave, by bionic: Kirk wants Spock, but Spock's in a relationship with Uhura. Then Jim ( ... )
