My name is Simon Sobolewski and I am a volunteer with Parks Canada at Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site at Colwood (the Fisgard Lighthouse is there too....).
In August we have a Living History event called, "Mobilize, Victoria!": Victorians Go to War. It will focus on the first 20 days of WW1 here in Victoria. We'll have historians dressed in civilian and military clothing of August 1914; military tents, Soldier's rations to taste, blank-firing weapons demonstations, 2 Edwardian military bands, Pipes and Drumns - lots of activities.....
So, why am I contacting The Bees? Knitting, of course!
The troops wore 2 pieces of knitted clothing and, well...try and we might, we cannot seem to find anyone who still makes them - a knitted, 7-button, collarless-cardigan and a knitted Balaclava-style cap.
We have the patterns but not the skills.
Can anyone assist us by taking these projects on for us? We would pay for materials and time....
