I love how you have brought Buffy's dreams of *normality* with a human Angel to life, and then interspersed it with what is actually happening in both their lives. Angel's despair with his lack of his champion qualities is perfect. I can see how he would react so.

Buffy rolls her eyes. Ancient scary vampire, but still such a guy.

I could never see Angel being fulfilled if he Shanshues. Yeah, he would finally be at peace, but I think he would lose his sense of self by no longer having a place in the world. He's been fighting for so long, I don't know that he would know how to stop. As for Buffy, I think that the idea of a normal life is too little, too late at this point. I just can't ever see them settling down with the white picket fence, you know? At least, not without the occasional demon fighting ;)

Oh yeah! Angel would be totally bummed if he was an ordinary human, as much as Joss would have us believe. Esp. if Buffy was still super strong. A man's ego and all that.

You flat out nailed the Buffy/Angel dynamic. Great use of the "day that never was", expanded into an entire timeline spiraling off from canon.

I just wanted to say that I thought this was a wonderful story. You completely nailed both Buffy and Angel, and I loved watching the IWRY world alongside the regular Buffyverse. I never mind Angel turning into human stories, but overall, I'd much rather find a way to keep him a vampire and still get them back together. And this story did that beautifully. So well done.
