Today's Anniversaries - 35 Years / 5 Years

35 Years.

The Star Wars Saga turned 35 today. It seams like its been longer for some reason.

Ah, the imagination and world that it brought to the masses - as well as all of the innovation and changes; a new breath of life in the world of movie making - which many people don't realize. Fan or not, Star Wars, and the rest of the Original Trilogy, brought a lot of new ways of doing things into film-making; it revitalized the film making world. There have been a couple of documentaries on it as well that has been made; film-centric documentaries often site the film in this regard as well.

On the topic of the anniversary - I'm sure something will be done for celebration at the "Celebration IV" in Orlando this year. Oh, how I wish I could go; I could stomach the crazies to go on an anniversary year such as this. The film that started it all, yea, it's a big anniversary.

Another Anniversary was also today: JrockRevolution. Five years ago, for two nights in a row, fans of Jrock were treated to the performances of 9 bands; Night One was Kagrra, Duel Jewel, Miyavi, Vidol, and Alice Nine, the "light" night. Night Two's line-up was Merry, D'espairs Ray, Girugamesh, MUCC, the "heavy" night. The surprise bonus was the appearance of Sugizo, who played with Miyavi for one of his last songs of his set. And then came the announcement of the final member of S.K.I.N -  although most people had guessed who it was by that point, but to have it be official..... and then came another surprise - the announcement of the band's premiere, (and only performance) at that year's Anime Expo. Jrock Revolution was an awesome experience.

There was a lot of waiting around in line - which included sleeping on the ground overnight between days one and two, and partially camping out early that Friday morning; I remember getting to the line around 3-ish am - I had work and  didn't get off until 2, I believe it was. It was an adventure of sorts. Luckily, I was around a fun group of fans both days during the line waiting, which is really the best way to go.

Interestingly, this same weekend was a Star Wars Celebration - Celebration IV. I was actually considering to go to it, as it was in the area that year - however, I figured (correctly, seeing as how things have turned out) that going to Jrock Revolution would be more beneficial as it would be more of a rare event to not be missed.

I also found out (as I was looking up the Star Wars Celebration info) that the 25th of May is a "Universal Day of the Jedi" - a fan celebration holiday for the Star Wars franchise; the observance starting in 2007 in honor of the 30th anniversary of the first movie. (Some light Google-ling found me a facebook page that is all about "geek holidays" - and there's quite a bit of them apparently. I know that Star Wars has three, with two in the month of May: today and on the 4th - which is nothing more than a play off of the one of the most famous phrases from the franchise - "May (month of May) the Force (4th) Be With You". (this one I found out, well, a couple of days before the 4th of this month).  hm.... ha, gotta love this type of stuff ).

Ah, memories. Good times. Although I missed it, they did play the movie on Spike. Sadly I don't have the movies on-hand, but I got the sound tracks - which is more-or-less like watching the movies anyway, particularly with how many times over i've seen them.

Well, its Memorial Day Weekend; I'm going to have a feast tomorrow with a friend at an amazing sea-food asian-euro fusion restaurant, getting a little dressed up, as it is a fancy Beverly Hills located restaurant (where apparently celebrities have been seen dining there). Food was awesome the last time I was there, but the service can be a bit lame if your not an A-roller, from what I've read, so, we'll see how it goes......
