Going Back To The Source - 'Tron' (1982)

今月は先月より日本語を勉強したい。それは今月のgoalです。

先週の金曜日に一日だ。暑かった! There was a nice breeze though, 大丈夫だ。今月はいいになるか?やっぱりいいcareer horoscopeあるでしょう?三月も四月も。

頑張るな。

So I finally saw the original Tron movie a couple of days ago (and then watched Tron: Legacy right after it).

It was an interesting movie, however the first 15 minutes were confusing. It really does just throw you into the its universe, which is a good thing. I may have just been confused because I missed a couple of key lines due to varying sound levels when it came on tv. It was nice to see all the little ways that they linked the two movies together; naturally some things were called for and had to be there in some form, but I also  think there were some things that were just small homages. It's also interesting to see how they integrated the video games of the day into the original movie. There's a scene in the movie where two programs are playing a game - and the game they are playing is straight up 'Pong'. There's another moment where a program is looking at some kind of display, and you can see 'Pacman' on the display - complete with that notable sound effect Pacman is notable for.

It was also pretty cool that the two main and important characters, Alan and Flynn, were both reprised in 'Legacy' by their original actors. It really does add a nice, and was an important aspect to, Legacy. I actually didn't know and realize that Jeff Bridges was in the original 'Tron' for a great while after seeing 'Legacy'. The original director, or was he the creator... anyway he was also invoved in Legacy, which is another interesting aspect.

My, how computers have changed. Moving from 'Tron' to 'Legacy' is an interesting look at that progression. Not just in effects, but just in terminology and other such related things.

I wish I knew someone who knew and understood the universe of 'Tron' well, as there are a couple of things that are rather curious about it all. And also apparently there was some type of companion cartoon? Maybe something like the animatrix.... Elijah Wood and the original Tron actor are among the voice actors attached to the project. I'd actually be interested in seeing it.

There's also a making-of for 'Tron' on youtube... I'll have to take a look at that sometime - should be rather interesting to watch.
